Samantha Who? Towers Over New Shows
ABC’s Samantha Who? with a Live+SD viewership of 14.18 million again topped all new shows for the week of Oct 29–Nov 4. Private Practice was very strong, maintaining its Live+SD viewership of 11.34 million. Women’s Murder Club increased its audience by 7% over the previous week, the biggest increase among all new shows.
On the other end of the spectrum, NBC’s Phenomenon lost 28% of its viewers from the previous week to fall to just 6.16 million Live+SD viewers. I think the show is ready to disappear.
Looking at the chart, one can’t help but think with ABC’s relative success with its new shows [the top 4, 6 of the top 9] that someone as crafty as ol’ Les Moonves might think to draw out the WGA strike specifically to snuff out ABC’s new shows. Sacrificing his mediocre new shows might seem a decent bargain.

Only one CBS show, Cane, had viewer gains from the previous week.
NBC’s Chuck held its audience steady from last week.
Fox’s only non-rerun Next Great American Band lost another 20% of its audience and is now in CW ratings territory.
With many bigger shows out for the week, 3 CW shows made the top 20. Reaper held steady, while Aliens in America staggered, losing 15% of its audience.
Our chart shows not only the viewership of the top 20 new shows, but also their week to week ratings momentum: shows gaining viewers [momentum > 1] and shows losing viewers [momentum < 1].

how much of Samantha do you think is because of its lead in, Dancing With The Stars. I think it's crazy of Fox to have put Next Great … on a Friday.

Angela, that's indeed the $64,000 question.
Samatha owes a lot to Dancing's 21.4m average audience on 10/29.
However, for 18-34s, Dancing had 2.299m avg. viewers and Samantha had 2.359m. So *more* younger viewers tuned in for Samantha. That's likely significant.

What does “[Off]” mean in the list of shows at the bottom that didn't make the Top 20? Most have it, but a couple, both CW shows, don't.

[Off] means the show didn't air that week.
Of the 6 new shows that didn't make the top 20, 4 had zero viewers since they didn't air. The 2 CW shows aired with fewer viewers than Gossip Girl.

Put Samantha in any slot without a huge lead-in and it wold be doing poorly. Actually, it's doing rather poorly given its lead-in.
Of all those shows, Women's Murder Club is the only good one, which help explain that it's not dropping like a stone like most everything else.
Dirty Sexy Money and Big Bang Theory might survive because in a season of bombs, mediocre show with mediocre ratings almost look good.
NBC has made itself a joke and Jeff Zucker should fire everyone (including himself) who was responsible for this awful mess.
He's probably banking on the strike to kill off all his new shows without any acknowledgment of how bad they are.
