  1. Sarah says:

Nice chart. Robert, is there anyway you can add DVR numbers or Live+7 numbers? You had some initial Live+7 numbers for Supernatural when you did the DVR Battle: Supernatural vs. Reaper. Was wondering if you had those numbers for following weeks? Thanks!

  2. Sarah, for a variety of reasons (mostly timeliness), I won’t be using the LIVE+7 numbers for these updates.

For every week except the 10/25 episode the difference between LIVE+SD and LIVE+7 is around 300,000 viewers. For the 10/25 episode, for whatever reason the difference was ~450K (3.46 million LIVE+7).

Reaper consistently has more DVR viewers (you can follow that in the “Top Time-shifted” category) though not typically more overall viewers.

I’ve not seen Reaper yet, but in the last couple of weeks I’ve seen 50 episodes of Supernatural — LOVE it.

  3. Sue says:

Welcome to the dark side, Robert. There is always room for more Supernatural fans!!!

  4. Nathaniel says:

Supernatural is without a doubt one of the CW’s power shows. As Smallville seems to loose its story footings and just go astray in plot development, Supernatural has consistently raised the bar every season its been on. I can’t wait for it to return from hiatus.

  5. Sydney says:

WHEN IS THE NEW SEASON OF SUPERNATURAL AND SMALLVILLE GOING TO START!!!!!

  6. trexyecart says:

I just spent the last two weeks watching Supernatural for the first time – I LOVE IT. How did I miss this show for two years??

  7. Rena Moretti says:

A “Power Show”?!! I think not. Unless you count a show with 3 million viewers as a big hit, which at this point CW might… ;)

  8. Daniel says:

Yea i watched seasons 1 and 2 in the span of 2 weeks in Decemebr. It was fantastic. I love it because there is no other show like it on tv. It is like watching a horror movie every week. This is my favorite horror show and Chuck is my comedy show. Both are AWESOME!

  9. Patti says:

The only 2 good shows that CW has are: Supernatural & Reaper. RIP Veronica Mars!

  10. Debbie C says:

Supernatural Rocks. I just found it during the writers’ strike. I watched my first episode the Friday before Christmas around 9pm. Then, I promptly downloaded the rest of the season. 3 days later I had watched all 52 episodes. I still haven’t gotten over the thrill. I can’t imagine how I hadn’t heard about the show before. Wow, what a ride! Jan 31st (tomorrow) they start back up. I am buying a TiVo just so I can record and rewatch every little detail again and again :-)

  11. Doug C says:

Malleus Maleficarum was an amazing episode. Especially the big secret from Ruby to Dean at the end. But now that story line can’t even be resolved until probably next season due to the writer’s strike. I just hope it’s getting enough viewers to make CW renew it next year. When are you going to get the new episodes ratings????????
ps: the part where the guy ate the bug sandwich was REALLY freaky.

  12. Doug — we usually get data from Nielsen for the previous Thursday by Tuesday. So some time today (2/12) we should get the full data for the episode that ran on 2/7. However, sometimes there are delays and last week, for example did not get the necessary info to break out viewing by age demographic.

I should’ve at least updated the table with the info I had — have done so now, and will endeavor to do better in the future!

  13. MattB says:

I think its awesome so many of you are now discovering SUPERNATURAL (TVs most underrated series). If you havent already you should pick up seasons 1 & 2 on dvd. Highly rewatchable.
Oh, and make sure you get friends and family hooked. Since The CW virtually ignores it its up to us to promote it.

  14. Deborah54 says:

First, Robert, thanks for tracking Supernatural’s ratings. I’m so happy to see that you and many others here have discovered Supernatural. IMO, it’s the most underrated show on television. I was so happy to see that Jus in Bello pulled in so many viewers! I hope it just keeps building as more people, like you fine folks here, keep discovering the show. The Winchester boys are the most interesting characters on TV at this time, and the writing, direction, production, etc. is top notch. I think we are a lock for renewal – what do you think, Robert?

    Thanks again!

  15. Deborah – I love the show, but as far as “lock for renewal”, I’m not so sure. I try to look at the CW in its full context. It was a combination of the WB and UPN networks. The CW now has less viewers combined than the WB or UPN had individually before the combination.

Given its place on the dial, I think CW should be shooting for programming in primetime that regularly attracts at least 4 million viewers.

By that metric, I would not renew Supernatural on CW, but, fortunately, the people who are actually RUNNING the CW don’t think like me. My guess is it is in fact a lock even if I think it makes more sense on SciFi, USA or perhaps even MyNetworkTv.

  16. Beth says:

    Robert-
Does The CW have any scripted shows that regularly draw 4 mil viewers? If that’s their standard, they wouldn’t be airing anything.

  17. Touche’ Beth. I’m remote without full data access. I believe Smallville used to regularly draw 4 million but as far as scripted shows that’s the only one that comes to mind. Please keep in mind that I don’t fully understand how some people at the CW get to keep their jobs. ;)

  18. Beth says:

“Please keep in mind that I don’t fully understand how some people at the CW get to keep their jobs.”

That makes two of us, Robert.

I am glad to see The CW actually acknowledged the show and issued their own press release about Supernatural’s high ratings. Hopefully, they’ll make an announcement soon saying they’ve renewed it for a 4th season!

  19. lilly says:

Supernatural never needs to leave The CW.
    I would boycott forever.
    Thanks for the ratings.

  20. Beth says:

Advertising works. As I look at the numbers above, I think all of the highest rated shows had fair amount of advertising time on The CW during other shows. I know that’s the case for Bedtime Stories and Jus in Bello. Hmmmm, advertise a show and viewers will turn in…interesting concept.

  21. Polly says:

Now that the CW has renewed for Season 4 we can all breath a sigh of relief! Thanks for keeping us posted on the ratings.

  22. nanonano says:

supernatural rocks!!! the best show on earth!!

  23. Shannon Greguras says:

I turned on my Tv a couple of weeks ago Thursday at 9PM to watch my favorite show ever, Supernatural, and it wasn’t on. I kept this up for a few weeks and discovered Reaper in its place. After reading all of the e-mails above I was pleased to see it was renewed for a fourth season, however, when will this be? My husband is oversees in Afhganistan and it is so funny because the first words out of his mouth when he calls home is, “did you find out when supernatural will be on again”, its not hey how are you and the kids! Its a good thing I love the show so much or I might take offense, ha ha. So could you please, please, get back to me and give me a date. Also should I be worried that Reaper is taking Supernaturals place permanantely? Please let me know, Thanks, Shannon Greguras

  24. Shannon, I can’t speak for next fall’s start date for season 4, but there are four new episodes THIS season, beginning April 24 in its normal time slot.

  25. Sam says:

This is a damn fun show. The guys crack me up.
And the stories draw you in like X-Files did.

Unlike Moonlight where nobody seems to be having much of a good time. Amazing how that show is doing better than this one.

  26. jennifer says:

    right on!

  27. bill says:

i just see no rest for the wicked the final is very ruff i hope they will do an new seasons because i want to see whats happened to dean :p i put an 2.5 on 3 for this one

  28. Amber says:

wow mabey if supernatrual was on a maine channel then more people would love to watch it but because its on the CW then alot of people dont like watching that channel

  29. Jean says:

ecm – I hope you have better examples than the ones you listed, because those are poor reasons not to watch a show with fascinating characters and engaging plot lines.

  30. Ema says:

I love supernatural i so cannot wait till it shows season 4, and i hope Dean is still alive.

  31. supernatural crazy says:

i live in the uk and have been watching supernatural since it stared here and i love it.
cant wait till season 4 not long now he he.
and its not just a show for girls as my boyfriend likes it almost as much as me x
lets hope for a season 5 (pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaase)

  32. Zander says:

There's no doubt in my mind that Supernatural doesn't get the credit it deserves. It has, by far, the best general plot and story line of the shows currently airing, and also the best cast. Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles are better than perfect for the roles of the Winchester brothers and hot and charming co-stars such as Alona Tal and Lauren Cohan make the show so much better. Also, give credit to all the Writers (especially Sera Gamble) and ofcourse, the catalyst and creater of the show, Eric Kripke.
Five stars for Supernatural, the best show of our time.

  33. sebastian says:

This show is just amazing, i love the plot and the story is great… One more week…i really cant wait for the fourth season to begin, i’ve watched the show since it first aired, and it’s just great to see how its popularity grows, it really sucks that the CW is the only channel that airs it. it’s not getting the advertisement it deserves.

  34. Brooke says:

This is one of the best shows I have come across. The story develops and thickens more and more every season. The episode that I just got finished watching, the 3rd of season 4, had me in awe the way they continue to develope and create a great story. It is the only show i have ever seen that I feel gets better as the seasons progress, as opposed to Smallville and One Tree Hill.

This show needs much more credit, for it is actually good and doesnt waste my time with useless episodes.. everyone reveals something anymore. Im hooked!

  35. maria says:

Where are the new season(4) ratings on the page? And since Supernatural has no promotion at all, how do we make everyone aware of it’s existence?

  36. Hi Maria, I’m not yet sure what I’m going to do with show specific ratings this year, but between trying to upgrade the site and keep it up and running and being on the verge of a residential move, I probably won’t get that figured out for another couple of weeks. Sorry.

I think all you can do is keep telling everyone you know that you love the show (and of course, talk it up on the Internet)…

  37. maria says:

Thanks for responding Robert, no problem dude, do what ya gotta do. The ratings have been much better this year, hopefully more people ARE finding Supernatural.

  38. Jimmy says:

man its really funny that people dont watch Supernatural much over in the states. As far as i know it has a huge cult following in WA. ive gotten so addicted im wandering around all week waiting for the next epidsode. cant wait to see what season 4 is gonna be like (only two eps aired in Aus so far) but looks promising.

  39. maria says:

I am back again with great news; Supernatural is up for a Peoples Choice Award! So please everyone go to http://www.pcavote.com and vote for Supernatural in the sci/fi catagory.

  40. mark says:

Supernatural is the best damn scifi show on TV! It’s consistently better than Heroes, Smallville, Lost, Fringe, etc. etc. I love how all the major plot lines are wrapped up in one season, yet they are still able to come up with great new story lines every season. The acting is great, the supporting cast are all well written, it’s incredibly hilarious at times, and really creepy at times too. I’m glad there are still creative shows like this on TV. I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!

  41. Felicia says:

I discovered Supernatural after meeting Jared Padalecki at a Fangoria Convention in Austin, Texas. I rushed to the store and bought season 1, and was hooked! A few days later, I bought season 2, and turned my mom on to the show as well. Jared is one of the sweetest people. The cast, crew, and fx team on this show are unbelievable. Supernatural is the best!
