“All of Nielsen’s national audience estimates are based on tuning to the average minute. So, the viewing for all minutes are summed together and divided by the number of minutes. As a result when you see a national rating it represents viewing during the average minute of the program whether it airs once or five times a week”

Thanks for the info. How do they handle multiple airings on the same day? Do they average them too or do they add them up.

In other words: are those ratings ratings per airing, ratings per day, or ratings per week?

For the shows that run M-F, the viewership is the average for all 5 days, what the industry calls “collapsed” ratings. That’s all we get for syndicated shows.

For Hispanic Spanish broadcast shows we get both the “collapsed” ratings and the “strip” ratings, which gives a rating for each individual day. For that group, we have chosen to publish only the “strip” results, since those are most like all of our other ratings items.

For Syndicated shows, we don’t have the choice, the collapsed ratings are all we get.

Maybe Sajak could do a special episode of Wheel where he puts the Abu Ghraib whistleblowers up on the wheel and spin them like it was the Spanish Inquisition! You know, for February sweeps!
