ABC Pulls Big Shots, The Hills Adds Bonus Episodes

Posted on 11 December 2007 by Bill Gorman

ABC Takes Big Shots Off the Schedule; The Hills Adds 8 Episodes

ABC has pulled the remaining 3 episodes of Big Shots from its schedule. Interesting, since it had a better 18-49 performance than Dirty Sexy Money which has received an order for 9 additional episodes.

MTV’s The Hills, a frequent top-timeshifted cable show, will return for 8 bonus episodes in the first quarter of 2008.

Bah – Humbug! Big Shots was one of the better offerings from ABC. If they show them in Jan that is fine. Still can't figure out why they picked up Dirty Sexy Money for a full season instead of Big Shots. Maybe they will move Men In Tree's back to being on after Grey's after the new year.

    Easy to explain:

Big Shots was squandering the high lead-in audience of Gray's Anatomy.

Essentially, it was doing a lot worse than Dirty Sexy Money and was headed lower still (not even 6 million viewers last time it aired).

Not that DSM is doing well at all, but network executives feel compelled to renew around 40% of their shows so as to claim victory even in the midst of deafeat (see Les Moonves last investor conference).

I love Big Shots, great show I can't believe ABC will pull it out. Big Shots funny, cute, the guys are awesome; to bad I don't think I will be watching to much on ABC

Also, 18-49 performance is only really important when Jeff Zucker, or someone like him, is trying to pull wool over people as how how bad his network is doing.

Jeff Zucker campaigned endlessly to try and show NBC was doing reat by using the 18-49 metric. Sadly, the press fell for it, and sadly for NBC it never was doing all that well and a few years of that “doing well in the all-important 18-49″ has shown its true color this year and last.
