Your National Football League is still feeling festive and gives us an extra present on Boxing Day. A simulcast of the New England Patriots vs. the New York football Giants game as the Patriots quest for a season of perfection.
Previously the game was only to air on the NFL Network which currently doesn’t wind up being available in about two thirds of the homes in the United States. The game will now be simulcast on not just one, but two broadcast networks this Saturday night: CBS and NBC will both show the game. I’m really looking forward to the cumulative viewing numbers for the game but am not very optimistic the Giants will actually make a game of it. Nonetheless it will be the first three network simulcast in NFL History. It’s been almost 41 years since the last time two broadcast networks simulcast a game, Super Bowl I in January 1967, also featuring CBS and NBC.

CBS barely nipped FOX for overall viewers and FOX won the 18-49 demographic. Holiday movies, reruns, a bunch of Saturday Night Live specials on NBC and a new America’s Most Wanted led another lackluster night of television viewing. More people might have watched T.O. hurt his leg while Tony Romo led the Cowboys to victory over the Panthers on the NFL Network. For half-hourly detail check out Marc Berman’s site.
