American Idol and FOX once again dominate, and that’s no surprise. But, Moment of Truth which premiered on FOX after Idol last night was the most successful airing of a new show after American Idol FOX has ever had.
Idol averaged almost 27 million viewers and Moment of Truth retained over 23 million of them. For all its success, Idol’s numbers are down ~15% versus last year. So much for all the chuckleheads yapping about how the WGA strike was going to mean huge numbers for American Idol. Nonetheless, FOX won the night in a big way, easily more than doubling average total viewers and viewers 18-49 versus a very distant NBC, which placed second for the night.
Rather than rail on how all the execs at ABC, CBS, NBC and CW should be immediately fired or at the very least, ashamed of themselves, we’ll just talk about…Drew Carey. Good news/bad news for Drew: The Carey hosted Power of 10 which gets completely beat down by Deal or No Deal, let alone American Idol, has been yanked from the schedule effective immediately. Last night’s beat down was the last it will endure until an expected return this summer. Two episodes of The New Adventures of Old Christine will replace it this coming Wednesday.
The good news is that the daytime version of the Price is Right hosted by Carey will get a chance in primetime starting Friday, February 22 at 8pm. It will air for 6 Fridays in the slot currently held Ghost Whisperer. Now in reruns, Ghost Whisperer will move to Fridays at 9pm replacing Moonlight which will go on hiatus.

I think the biggest surprise for me is how well NBC has been doing lately. CBS has really fallen off, and ABC must be really worried.

NBC doing well?! In what alternate universe.
If they’re doing well why are they still 15% below last year’s awful numbers?
