We’re still waiting on total viewer information as well as 18-49 demographic viewers, but the season two premiere of Jericho performed very poorly. While we don’t have enough data to be absolutely definitive, we have enough where the TVbytheNumbers.com magic 8 ball is saying “all signs point to cancel”.
It performed dead last in the 10pm slot in terms of HH ratings in the overnights with a 4.1. A new Boston Legal had a 5.2 and a rerun of Law & Order: SVU had a 6.3 and won the time slot. I’m sure there will be huge talk about DVR numbers, the numbers being off because downloads leaked early, etc, but that’s just talk. Jericho has a loyal following, but that loyal following is NOT 10 million strong sadly, or even close.
By way of comparison Jericho made its season one debut on 9/20/2006 with a 7.6 HH rating. The season one finale on 5/9/07 had a 5.2. So a 4.1 really bites (the L&O: SVU rerun outperormed it by more than 50%!)
Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but that news looks bad. Viewer and 18-49 data are now up: things looked a little better with the viewer and demo info, but still not great.

Look at the timeslot Jericho got. Thats where CBS screwed up. But I saw alot of advertizments… Oh, and don't hanbd it over to the sci-fi channel, i don't get that. But I mean, hell there are ALOT more people watching Jericho out there than just the ones who sent nuts. I didn't send nuts (i was, but i had no cash), and what isn't taken into account here is the other channels. CTV and Space are also airing Jericho, and Citytv was last season, i mean, the numbers on those channels aren't taken into account, and Space and CTV have given Jericho a better timeslot. I woudln't be shocked if CTV got more viewers than CBS, mainly because CBS screwed up the timeslot majorly. Also, Jericho was the number 3 show for it's timeslot of tuesday, and better in the important 18-49 range of viewers, ya I love Jericho, I got the first season when it came out, yes I am 14 and still in school, but I am also able to see what is going on here. I hope Jericho isn't tossed, although numbers aren't what they could be, and below any number of the first season, it still has 5 episodes to prove it self, before CBS shows the season finale created, or the series finale that was created… thats right 2 were created… I just hope its the season… and i guess maybe they could leak the series on the net just so we can see LOL. Neilson needs to find a way to count live viewings on everyones TV including New Media watchers. I have never trusted Neilson. Another article I found on the web posted how Jericho changed the way Neilson works, they found a flaw in their system and are trying to find a way to make these numbers more accurate. None of the networks want to address the new media counting, but they are going to have to, or be left behind. All you have to look at is 3 words: The Writer's Strike. What do you think they were all fighting for. They know where new-media is heading and where people are really tuning in for their favorite shows.

I was aware that the first three eps were loaded up on the torrents of doom, but I didn't think that would cut into the audience too much considering what people had told me about having to click this specific link in order to get the password for opening the .rar files that held those eps.
It sounded very sketchy to me and like people wouldn't want to give up personal info to get said password.
Certainly, besides some mainstream advertising, CBS didn't do much.
Considering the content in season two, you would think that they would have reached out to some political blogs.

Jericho Season 1 was excellent and I'm really disappointed by the low ratings. However, after having seen the first 2 episodes of this season, it feels as if they are just thrown together with no budget. This season definitely doesn't feel like the same show to me as the pacing is now 10 times quicker and I feel like the story is being rammed down my throat as opposed to slowly revealed.
A show like Jericho belongs on cable (HBO, SHOW, etc.). I'd rather have it on Sci-Fi than no where, but if for some reason new episodes after these 7 are made by Sci-Fi, then I fear the budget cuts will really start to show.

However, after having seen the first 2 episodes of this season, it feels as if they are just thrown together with no budget. This season definitely doesn’t feel like the same show to me as the pacing is now 10 times quicker and I feel like the story is being rammed down my throat as opposed to slowly revealed.
A show like Jericho belongs on cable (HBO, SHOW, etc.). I’d rather have it on Sci-Fi than no where, but if for some reason new episodes after these 7 are made by Sci-Fi, then I fear the budget cuts will really start to show.
i agree with jonah. this show would definitely do better on hbo or even sci fi. for some reason, i think the time slots indicate a lack faith on the part of cbs. when i first saw this show online, and i've watched everything i could, i said this show would do sooo much better on an hbo or showtime.

I think the ratings would have stayed up if CBS would pick and day and time for Jericho to run. They have switched the night and time three times now, with large breaks in between. Bouncing it around like that isn't going to keep a show going. You will lose alot of viewers that way. A recipe for success would be to pick a day and time and let it run, no long breaks, a little more promotion, and I think the show would be able to stick it out for the long haul and gain many viewers. It started out with over 12 million. I had to put alot of effort into finding out when it was going to be on again.

I am not a watcher (it's not in my wheelhouse), but I am tempted to start (if my DVR can fit it in). I am hoping for all of you Jer fans that it gets renewed. You folks have earned it.

it did not help the rating like people hade already said that the dvd leak happened in january what also sucks is england dont get to have a say in anything as by the time it will actually air here it more than likely already be canceled

Robert, you seem to be fairly “in-the-know” here. What would it take to get Jericho onto a cable network? We’re talking cost (rights transfer, contract transitioning, etc.).

This is so depressing. As much as I wish another network would pick up Jericho, I think it might just be too expensive. Not that I know much about how these deals work. I wanted Firefly to get picked up by Sci Fi too, and I wanted The Black Donnelly’s to get picked up by HBO (yeah, I always seem to fall in love with the Underdog).

Just noting –because there are some sensitive Jericho fanboys today that *I* didn’t post the comment saying FNL and Arrested Development were crap. I haven’t ever watched FNL (it’s on the ‘to do’ list) and I liked Arrested Development.
