More people watched American Idol than all other broadcast networks combined between 8p-10p last night where FOX averaged over 28 million viewers.
I’ve already spoken my peace (or piece) on Big Brother and Jericho this morning and seeing the actual numbers for the shows didn’t change my opinion any. Neither show could manage even 6 million viewers. If there’s any silver lining (and really, there isn’t) it’s that ABC stinks worse on Tuesdays right now. Its “comedy” lineup is in the toilet and it doesn’t seem to be helping out Boston Legal any either. BL finished dead last in the 18-49 demo at 10pm (Jericho finished 2nd, or next to last).
NBC placed a very distant second overall for the night, but all things considered Biggest Loser holds up better against AI than anything else and it won the 10pm hour with a repeat of Law & Order: SVU.
CBS best performer? A rerun of NCIS.

People make such a big deal about “repeats” getting better ratings. Law & Order: SVU is in it's 9th season. Boston Legal is in it's 4th season. These are established shows while Jericho is still trying to establish it's footing after last years hiatus and time slot moves. (Wednesday 8pm, then Fridays 9pm for the season 1 repeat, now Tuesdays 10pm?)
I feel Jericho would do better at an earlier hour, even if it were to go up against AI again. Even so, compared to Cane ratings, Jericho isn't doing too shabby.
Jericho is a great series that continually gets shafted by its owners. They advertised poorly for it, and the first 3 episodes of the new season were leaked onto the web over a month ago. I wouldn't expect to see high rating since everyone i know who watches it has already seen the first 3. Big brother is terrible, i admit that. But Jericho just seems to have bad luck, it took about a million letters before they decided to even have a 2nd season, and now that they have they are putting it in a late night slot in favor of reruns of NCIS.

There's no need to imply that ABC's comedies are all bad by putting the word “comedy” between double quotation marks. While “According to Jim” definitely needs to go, “Carpoolers” is very funny, and consistently so. The ratings might suck but the show doesn't.
Jeebus, actually NCIS would be a good lead-in show for Jericho, I am willing to bet Jericho would keep more of NCIS's viewers than BB does. i'd be interested to see what happens if CBS Switches BB and NCIS around in their slots.
Chandra, that's fair — I feel the exact same way about 30 Rock and it suffers similarly in the ratings.

Hey, I'm as much a Jericho fan as anyone around. I sent nuts, I blogged about the show since episode one, I supported the show with my trip to Comic-Con and buying the DVD and did the whole bit …
… but the numbers seem incontravertable. Those of us who want to see this story play out seem to be a smaller audience than CBS hoped for, and they are gonna make a tough decision at the end of these seven episodes that won't be changed with nuts or seeds or kernels of corn or pinto beans.
It's losing to an SVU repeat. A repeat!
Then again, I still haven't seen the cast out there really pounding the press for the show. I gotta wonder why they didn't send them out to the talk shows.
Well, Skeet's shooting a movie, according to IMDB, Lennie James is only a flight away, but I don't see him anywhere (and frankly, only Jericho fans know him, so how many new viewers would be bring).
Ashley may be in town, but now it's kind of late for a PR push.
I saw Esai on TV Watercooler on the TV Guide channel.
And that's all I think they've done.
I would have bought radio time (progressive radio can be bought for a song). Also, CBS doesn't have the multitude of cable properties to promote on. As we know there's little synergy (or love lost) between the MTV Networks and CBS-Paramount people.

Joe Bua, I'm a huge Jericho fan myself, sent in Nuts, made phone calls, wrote letters, the whole nine yards.
I completely agree with you, pretty much every word. The numbers don't lie. We are getting beat by repeats. Our numbers are even lower than the the season finale.
I will be completely amazed if the show gets a third season, I just don't see it happening. CBS did a great thing by listening to the fans, its only happened a handful of times in television history. But I just don't see CBS bringing back the show, no amount of nuts, letters, or phone calls will change their mind. They gave us a second chance to prove the show had an audience and its just not happening.
And it pains me horribly, just horribly to say it, but it just doesn't feel like the same show. The production value is WAY lower than last season, over half the cast have taken a backseat as “Special Guest Stars”, and it just feels like they skipped over huge chapters in the storyline and robbed us. I want the Jericho I loved and fought for, not this rushed, high school play they are giving us.
Mentioned this last week, but maybe it bears repeating for all of you Jericho fans.
The Tuesday night, 10pm time slot is extremely competitive. All three shows would probably be doing better if they could find an easier spot. I don't know where that would be and appaently, neither do the networks.
Also, comparing 10pm Nielsen (total viewer) numbers to, say 8pm or 9pm numbers, doesn't work because there is a big drop off in TV's turned on in a lot of areas at that time.

if Jericho had been put on the air BEFORE AI, the entire scene would have been different.
The 10pm slot is the DEATH SLOT for younger viewers. Shows relegated to that time are supposed to be “adult programming.”
Put Jericho on as the lead-in to a great show, not as a trailer.
People who watch SVU reruns are not actually “watching” anything — it's background noise.

OMG! Does it mean we're watching the second and final season of Jericho???

When is The Unit returning to TV? I can't believe they replaced that show with Big Brother. I think we know why that show is still on. Bring back The Unit and it's great cast.

one good sign is that it had more viewers than big brother which is in its 8th season. How can you expect a show to get kick ass ratings against one of the highest rated shows on, law and order SVU in a horrible time slot? Lets hope when episode 4 hits viewership will jump. Every person I know that has watched jericho has loved it. To the people who sent in e mails, nuts etc please tell all your friends to watch the show, visit the website, and even perhaps contact the advertisers and let them know you will support their product because of their support for the show. CBS will listen to them before us anyway.
