Academy Awards Viewership, 1974-2007

And the Winner Is….

Academy Awards show viewership was generally constant around 45 million viewers until 1998’s 55 million [Titanic], and then a quick slide down to 2003’s 33 million [Chicago]. Now, 40 million seems like the new level. Even staying constant is somewhat of a victory considering that overall primetime broadcast network viewership has been in long term decline. I don’t think I’d be going too far out on a limb to guess sub-40 million viewers for Sunday’s show.

Did you ever think it could possibly be sub-30 mil?

  2. Bill Gorman says:

No way did I see the drop below 30 million coming, that’s just catastrophic.
