Awww Noni, you were so bored you were inspired to write. So in a very real way, I was your inspiration. You made my day! :D Here's a suggestion: all these posts have two tables in them with nothing but numbers. Look at them, and ignore everything else. I've made that fairly easy for you, you should thank me!

Jon, I remember the movie. I sometimes would like CBS to broadcast an hour of static just to see if Nielsen would report2-3 million CBS viewers anyway.

Bonnie and Sylvia, I hear you but all indications are the network honchos at TLC, HGTV, DISC etc. are all also obsessed with the Nielsen ratings, albeit on a very different scale.

I am amazed to see the numbers for some of game shows, and reality shows. It seems we are beat to death with this type of show. The Nielsen ratings do not reflect my choice of shows nor the choice of shows watched by friends and family. I could count on one hand the number of shows I watch on the big 5 networks. Why because of the lack of variety of quality shows. Most of my tv time is spent on HGTV, TLC, Travel and Discovery channels. Until the networks start listening to all viewers, I'll stick with true entertainment and educational shows! I don't need to watch morons jumping around the stage and screaming, and I don't need to see multiple crime/ murder type of shows, repeatedly solved by the kind of detective work that doesnt' exist.

Does anyone remember a little movie called 'The Ratings Game' where Danny DeVito gets a hold of the Nielsen mailing list, sends all of the families on a cruise and then has his cronies break in to their houses and watch a crappy little show that he produced so as to 'fix' the ratings.

It was a comedy, but I remember thinking to myself how easy it might be to skew the ratings with a more subtle plan or plans. It really seems like FOX has figured something out. No one I know watches these 'Reality Shows' yet they continue to clobber the competition.

Maybe I just don't know those kind of people, but maybe FOX is getting to a significant portion of them through some kind of advertising ploy or something. 12,000 people doesn't seem to be a significant enough number to make major network decisions on, especially if those 12,000 people are 'sheep' type people. We need more 'cat' and 'dog' people in the Nielsen ratings households.

Once again I can't believe those Nielsen boxes truly speak for the viewing public! I can't stand game shows and a game show in primetime is an abomination as far as I'm concerned. I, also, don't think I'm alone. There is a significant portion of the public that has expressed a dislike for game shows and reality shows yet those types of shows live on and on. Perhaps a good reason that a significant portion of the public has turned away from network TV in general. With limited choice and no Moonlight, I spent my time on TLC and HGTV while watching Moonlight at CBS.com.

Yet again Robert Seidman bores us with his nonsensical writing, his trite absence of a sense of humor and his know-it-all attitude.

Just give the numbers. Nobody cares what you think you idiot!
