When it comes to cable, my knowledge base would be wider if like Mr. Gorman I had some young ones crawling around. But I’m not sure even Bill had ever heard of NICK’s “Fairly Odd Parents” or that it had spawned a movie, Fairly Odd Baby.
But the Odd Baby beat out the Democrat Debates, Anderson Cooper, the season finale of Monk (which had great numbers), WWE, SpongeBob and the NCAA matchup of then #1 Memphis vs. then #2 Tennessee (great game!).
These are some of the bigger numbers we’ve seen in the weekly cable rankings. Fairly Odd Baby took the number one and number nine most viewed spots, adding in #19 for good measure. Despite this, SpongeBob still made his presence known with nine placements on our weekly top 20.
For those curious (as I was) about where Shaq vs. Kobe ranked when the Lakers of Los Angeles took on the Suns from Phoenix last week, it was 26th on a viewers basis with 3.62 million viewers watching ESPN on a Wednesday evening. It was #20 on a HH ratings basis.
If you would have thrown in the 450K or so who watched on the local Arizona Fox Sports Net affiliate, it would have had over 4 million viewers and easily made the top 20. But Nielsen doesn’t count things that way. Either way, it was a fun game to watch.
NICK placed FOURTEEEN out of the TOP 20 SHOWS. Perhaps the CW should start airing SpongeBob reruns. Or Zoey, who even on cable kicks Gossip Girl’s broadcast network butt.
All hail Nickelodeon. Disney Channel placed no shows on the weekly top 40 this week.

WOW!! Nickelodeon took 13 of the top 20 spots. I must be out of it (actually a FOP fan, but didn’t catch the movie…) because I did not see that coming. o_O

Spongebob, iCarly, Zoey 101 and other Nick shows are always 20ish members of the top 40 cable shows that we see each week.
What varies from week to week is how well the competition does.
With strong competition, the Nick shows can be somewhat crowded out of the top 20.
On weeks like this one, the competition is weaker and the omnipresent Nick shows move up to fill the top 20.

My favorite show Stargate Atlantis, seemed to just miss the top spot once again. Hopefully this is good enough for the network.

while you can’t project HH to viewers easily, if we use the CW finale on 2/21 as a comparison it did:
CW Supernatural 3.22m 1.3/3 (18-49) 2.3 HH
If they have comprable viewers per screen, Atlantis did about half…
And Marc, it’s definitely good enough. There’ll be another season of Atlantis!

Hi Robert,
Atlantis has been pulling in between 1.7 to 1.9 million viewers for their 2nd half from what I have read. A 1.2 HH usually gets them about 1.7+ million viewers. Well Season 5 was picked up on lower ratings back in the Season 4 first half. So this is a good sign that ratings upicked. I hope they don’t put most of the reason on the strike though. I think the finale was excellent and leaves a lot of anticipation for next season. Hopefully these ratings are good enough for a Season 6, which we should know by the summer when Season 5 airs. Anyway thanks for the comparisons!
