What a difference a week makes for ABC. The Bachelor: Where are They Now? was no 20/20: The Royal Family, and ABC plummeted from first place last Monday to fourth place this Monday. The only good news for the Mouse network is that it tied for 3rd with FOX in the 18-49 demo even though it averaged two million fewer total viewers. ABC aired the final two episodes of October Road between 9p-11p, and given the performance (under 5 million and under a 2.0 in the demo) those will almost certainly be the final two episodes.
Julianna Margulies may be attractive to some (me included!) but it would appear from a FOX perspective (pun intended) she’s no Summer Glau! The premiere of Canterbury’s Law could rustle up only 7.62 million and worse, it was next to last (beating only a repeat of Gossip Girl!) in the 18-49 demo. It’s somewhat puzzling to me why FOX didn’t premiere this show after an airing of American Idol before moving it to its regular timeslot.
FOX did exactly that (twice last week!) with New Amsterdam. Last night was Amsterdam’s first airing in its normal timeslot without the American Idol lead-in and it pulled in 8.78 million viewers with a 2.5 in the 18-49 demo. Not great, but not bad. Both shows paled in comparison to a rerun of House one year ago that drew 9.69 million and a 3.5 in the 18-49 demo.
CBS won the night both in total viewers and the 18-49 demographic. Indeed, a rerun of Two and a Half Men was the most watched show of the entire evening and also had the best 18-49 performance. I’m not sure if the trend of rerun success is CBS’ friend, but consider that the repeat of 2.5 Men beat out both new airings of The New Adventures of Old Christine. If I was running CBS, 2.5 men would air at least five times a week!
I know what you’re thinking: “Seidman, don’t quit your day job.” Unfortunately, I did just that — over five years ago.
I don’t know if Gorman and I could do a better job with the EYE network, but I’m pretty sure we’d do a better job with the CW (I’d start buy airing at least ONE repeat of Two and a Half Men a week on the CW — no doubt.).
