Top Cable Shows March 3-9: UNC Bests Duke and SpongeBob

Posted on 11 March 2008 by Robert Seidman

But Make No Mistake, SpongeBob Rules the Top 20

SpongeBobThank GOODNESS that the ACC matchup put the beat down on our square-panted friend – at least from a total viewers perspective.  The North Carolina vs. Duke game was the most watched program on cable television last week, though on a HH Ratings basis they were tied (3.4) and Nielsen had SpongeBob #1!

Outside of Project Runaway, and both hours of WWE RAW, it was all SpongeBob all the time.  Squarepants took six out of the top 10 and fifteen out of the top 20 spots.  That’s dominance, baby.

The only other thing to make it in the top 20 that I didn’t mention was CNN Election Center on March 4th coming in at #14.

Sorry Disney fans, no shows in the top 40 this week.  And though I very much enjoyed the season finale of Stargate Atlantis it too was not in the top 40.  Throw in iCarly, Fairly Odd Parents, Drake & Josh, Back at the Barnyard and Zoey 101 and NICK took thirty-three spots out of the top 40.

Wow.

FYI, The Stargate Atlantis finale pulled a 1.49 HH rating according to Executive Producer Joseph Mallozzi. This was their best ratings since last season. So they went out with a bang in the ratings and creativity department, imo. Thanks again for the mention.

It has got to be somewhat dispiriting for other cable network executives to see their business dominated by the Squarepanted one.

Wow, look, the X channel got its biggest single show rating ever! (but was beaten by 17 episodes of Spongebob).

Those Spongebob episodes were some of the funniest episodes in a while, they deserved to get high ratings. Much more than Disney live-action crap.

If it isn’t too much trouble, could someone tell me the rating for the 2 hr Storm Front of The Dresden Files that aired at 3am on the morning of 3/8? I’m just really curious.

    Thanks!

Teresa, while we get data on every broadcast primetime show, we only see data on the top 40 cable programs each week. The Dresden Files was not among them.

Thanks, Bill. I knew it was a long shot, but it never hurts to ask. I know there were 28 of my fellow lunatics watching.

Didn’t there used to be more Fox Noise Channel shows in the top 20?

Because not seeing any of them there now just makes me smile.
