American Idol was on, if only for one hour and that was more than enough to seal the deal for FOX with over 26 million viewers for the hour and a 10.1/26 in the 18-49 demographic. Coupled with Moment of Truth, FOX easily rolled on to another nightly win, well ahead of 2nd place (and proud of it!) NBC. NBC consistently seems to field the best results against Idol – I don’t blame it for being proud of the consistency.
At 8pm Moment of Truth squared off in a head-to-head battle with Deal or No Deal, and Moment of Truth won the contest. While Moment only had a “few” more viewers (10.36 million vs. 10.17 million), it crushed Howie Mandel like a bug in the 18-49 demographic (4.2 vs. 2.5).
Other than Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and my current favorite, Lost, ABC seems to have completely given up until Dancing With the Stars, Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives come back. Tuesday and Wednesdays are just a black hole on the ABC schedule right now. Seems like a waste, but still, ABC while in fourth place in overall viewers had more 18-49 viewers checking it out than CBS. I still need to check out Supernanny and I hear great things about Men in Trees, but more people are watching Jericho according to Nielsen.
CBS is just old, and was again unable to crack the 2.0 mark in the 18-49 demographic. I honestly don’t get it because Les Moonves is thirteen years older than me and his wife is uh, eight years younger than me. I would’ve figured, hey, this is a man who knows something about attracting youth! It doesn’t seem to work out that way though.
Speaking of Moonves’ wife, Julie Chen, Big Brother couldn’t even crack a 2.0 in the demo last night. I really don’t have a problem with nepotism if it achieves good numbers, but those aren’t good numbers. You know that in some CBS conference room somewhere some poor saps who probably ought to be fired are presenting a chart that adds the CW’s 18-49 demo numbers into CBS’ and proclaiming that if you add the two together, we, not NBC came in second in the demo. Woot.
As bad as it is for CBS, the failures at CW are simply criminal as the network fades completely into oblivion. America’s Top Model couldn’t crack four million users. Tyra, Tyra, Tyra. Can it be long before we’re writing more about myNetworkTV (future new home of Friday Night Smackdown)! than the CW?

I don’t get it. How does Deal or No Deal get 10 million viewers?

Danielle— I think Deal or No Deal’s following is one those unexplainable phenomena that we will only understand someday when we go to heaven.

I’m with both of you. I don’t get it, but I don’t think we get to understand it in this lifetime. I tried to watch it, but I found it irritating. I had to turn it off.

Poor CW, myNetworkTV has News Corp. backing it with Friday Night Smackdown I am sure that Rupert Murdoch will shell out the cash to ensure it overtakes the measly CW.

You would think a live episode of Big Brother would pull more viewers. The two highlight episodes (Sun. & Tues.) pull in more viewers. Let’s see how next week will do when it has Survivor as a lead in and it competes with Idol at 9 PM.

Even for Big Brother fans, this season is a test of our loyalty. The “houseguests” are the skankiest ever. The show feels desperate. All it takes is better casting next time and a more forgiving summer time slot for such a cheap looking and cheaply produced show.
