CBS Giveth and CBS Taketh Away. After spending the last 4ish hours watching NCAA hoops action (on CBS, no less!) at the local sports bar I was disappointed to read the Hollywood Reporter story confirming Jericho’s cancellation. From the article by James Hibberd:
“The March 25th episode of Jericho will be the series finale,” CBS said in a statement. “Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more. We thank an engaged and spirited fan base for keeping the show alive this long, and an outstanding team of producers, cast and crew that went through creative hoops to deliver a compelling, high quality second season. We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try. We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow, and the producers put a great story on the screen. We’re proud of everyone’s efforts.”
This seems to remove all hope that the series will continue on another network. And just when I was enjoying it. If it’s true that they air the “series finale” version I hope Hawkins will at least get to…blow up a lot of people. Or something. A disappointing outcome. My condolences to the shows enthusiastic fan base.

‘Tis a sad day. I for one hope this is not the end. There are many options still available for continuing the story. At this point we can only hope for the best.

Shaun, I know that you’ve worked really hard to keep the show on the air (if you are indeed that Shaun) but basic cable will not be able to support the show’s budget and pay cable will be looking for something much more cutting edge.
We were just too few to make an audience for a broadcast network show.
Hopefully, enough people have seen Lennie in the show that we’ll see him in other things here in the US.

Joe, at this point I will take a novel or even a comic continuation. There is an entire nation to rebuild.
With so much room for growth + a great set of characters, why stop. There is still plenty of stories to tell

Hey guys,
If anyone hears about any real efforts to try to save Jericho by getting it picked up elsewhere, can you let us at SciFi Studios know about it? You can do so by posting here:
http://www.scifistudios.com/community/index.php?showtopic=1657&hl=
I’m not interested in any efforts to get it renewed on CBS. I wasn’t that interested in that last time, but this time it would be a completely wasted effort.
I’d rather see it picked up by another channel (CW or cable) or even on the internet.
Thanks!
Dave

Sad day for sure.
BUT at the end of the day…what gives?
How can Jericho fans send nuts to CBS but not follow up by actually watching the show? CBS passionately asked its fanbase to tune in once the show returned and they vigorously advertised it. Instead, its fanbase never showed up.
Its fanbase can’t necessarily blame CBS. Even though Tuesdays @ 10 have been a death slot for them, CBS was dealing with an ongoing strike unable to catapult new episodes of NCIS & The Unit to help it.
Regardless, you can’t necessarily say that the show wasn’t doing good BECAUSE it failed to have proper lead-ins. It was up against RERUNS of Law and Order and Boston Legal, yet lost in households to both. It couldn’t even meager first place finishes in the 18-49 demo even when SVU was in reruns. That’s an entirely disappointing finish.
If you want a comparison as to how bad Jericho was doing, take a look at the quick flop that was Threshold from years ago. Even Threshold did better than Jericho when it switched from Fridays to Tuesdays!
Frankly, I can’t stand the people who say it was directly CBS’ fault because Jericho didn’t fit their programming schedule. First and foremost, CBS advertised the heck out of this thing from the start! Secondly, its original timeslot on Wednesdays barely had any competition and it couldn’t even manage a 6.0-8.0 HH rating?
In all seriousness, its a disappointment, but at least CBS doesn’t hold on to shows like Friday Night Lights–which ‘everyone’ seems to love, which nobody watches, and which loses pretty much every award it actually gets nominated for–day in and day out. CBS is committed to quality, but how could they be alienating a fanbase when NOBODY WATCHED THE SHOW AT ALL?
Considering CBS has stake in The CW, I’d suggest that the CW NOT pick this one up. First of all, everything that has been working for CW lately has been thanks to the 12-34 Womens demo. Gossip Girl and ANTM have only performed as strong as they have thanks to young women. How will Jericho fit in to the schedule? Men don’t even make up a substantial majority of viewers on Smallville!
Sci-Fi has no reason to pick this one up either. That network has done well with original movies, BSG, and other original series lately, and doesn’t need leftovers. I’m pretty sure NBC wouldn’t dare pick it up anyways (also knowing that Heroes reruns would probably average more viewers!).
I love Jericho, and I’ve watched every episode. But it’s a lame duck and at a business stance, there’s no benefit in keeping it on the air.
Let’s just hope its ‘fanbase’ doesn’t go utterly crazy for the show again. This time, they’re risking embarrassment!
Sad day for sure.

I was not a regular viewer, but in the past few months I have seen more passion on the part of those who were than I can remember in recent years for any ‘bubble’ program.
I hope that some cable network will put it in reruns and think about making new episodes.

It was confirmed tonight, on Shaun o’Mac’s radio broadcast, that the show’s production company will be trying to find another home for Jericho. Most likely they will be looking at cable networks.

Guys. It’s a pity that it doesn’t count how many people all around the world away from States every Wednesday morning downloaded every new episode. I’m from Russia and I love this show more than any other.
Lets just pray that any other channel would pick it.

Of course it’s CBS’ fault. When the show premiered, it had a little over 11 million people watching. Then, what’d they do? They put it on hiatus, which is even worse than canceling it, put it back on the air after how many months and killed the momentum it had because people forgot about it. Then, they canceled it, brought it back, and gave it one of the worst lead-ins (You’re right about the re-runs, they had no competition), hoped for the best, and released a blanket statement on their part, but blamed the fans in the end. It’s complete and utter horsesh*t that they don’t want to take responsibility for killing the show themselves by putting it on hiatus and splitting Season 1 like that; what did they think would happen?

there is no denying that 20% of Jericho’s viewers were lost (and never recovered) after the hiatus. I’d tack on that NBC did something very similar with Heroes in the 2006-2007 season with similar results.

They did watch the show. Problem is, there were precious few of them. Basically, a small number of people made a whole lot of noise. CBS thought a lot of noise meant a lot of people. They were wrong.
Fans have to face reality: Jericho was not a popular show, no matter how much they liked it themselves.

It only takes a very passionate minority to make a lot of noise. If you go by that sort of buzz you’d think Firefly is the most popular show there ever was, only it’s not the case.

Oh goodie maybe now we can get another law show or medical show or something real original a police show in its place. Sad to see it go it was nice to have something besides the same ol same ol that networks keeps pushing on us.

I’ll miss it and have seen every episode. I moved last spring so this year I’ve watched all but 1 of them online only, and plowed through the last 3 last night, not knowing til this morning that Tuesday’s will be the last. t’s rather depressing if you really think about it, because we could soon find ourselves in the situation the fictional town of Jericho is in. I’ve tried to get some pointers on how to survive lol. Maybe the show will on another network, who knows.

6 million (live) nobodies. Some channels would kill for that. As nice as it was that CBS greenlighted the show and I AM thankful for what I have of Jericho, its still more viewers than a lot of network shows get. But not CBS standards. And honestly, no, NOT every one has a DVR. The company I work for doesn’t have DVR capability on our digital end. Not a huge amount of customers, no, but there are a lot of people in the U.S that still don’t have DVRs. My customers have to use their long distance to get TiVO. And thus where video streaming comes in. My rural customers (most of them) CAN get shows via download and streaming. But we in the non-populated zones aren’t wanted viewers anyway. It’s just disgusting that there is nothing else on TV I’m interested in. I wish there was. I wish I just loooooved all those popular shows. But I find the scripted ones tedious and pretty much running their genres dry with “spinoffs” and reality tv, well, I can’t tell you how much I hate THAT. So, I guess I’ll get netflix for entertainment and pretty soon, all my TV will be for is news.

A very sad day indeed. Not sure if they show was or is being shopped around to other networks, but I certainly hope so, even if the outcome is nothing.

I was devastated to hear Jericho wasn’t going to be renewed. I’m 59, live in rural Arkansas, and it has been a long time since I’ve been rivited to the TV with a well written, fast paced TV series. My Niece and Nephew in Kansas also are avid viewers, and we call each other several times during the show, just to comment on the events. It will be a sad day tomorrow when I view the final show. Congrats to the writers, editors and actors of JERICHO, you were fablous!!

I have been depressed ever since I heard the news! I can tell you this – I will not watch another CBS new series ever again! I hope a more intelligent network like SCIFI picks it up and runs with this amazing show that does have a true following even if CBS won’t admit it.

It is a real shame that a television show with an original story line has to be cancelled. If CBS kept Jericho on Wednesday(it’s original day) and at it’s original time slot, chances are it would not be cancelled. I think this is CBS’s way to get rid of it. There are many shows that CBS could cancel and not be missed at all. The money saved from those shows could be used on a show that is actually interesting to watch. Plus it is a shame that the ratings only pertain to the United States I am from Canada and many of my friends, family and
co-workers all watch Jericho faithfully! Hopefully another TV Network will pick it up!
