ABC won another lackluster Sunday. I’d blame it on it being Easter Sunday, but the prior week was lackluster as well. Both weeks no network could average even 10 million viewers for a Sunday night. ABC had a tiny bit of an improvement over last week, CBS had sizeable gains due to the NCAA overrun last night, and NBC and FOX posted lower numbers. FOX couldn’t even average 4 million viewers for the night — the worst performance I remember. While its animated shows were repeats, the repeats usually perform better. Bad news for Unhitched to have two episodes burned with each only doing a little more than 3 million viewers.
It’s starting to look like Sunday is the new Friday, when it comes to people watching broadcast television during primetime.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is still the darling of ABC’s Sunday night lineup, pulling in both more viewers and more 18-49 viewers than Oprah’s Big Give, although Oprah dominated the 9pm hour and outside of the NCAA Tourney and the aforementioned Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, had the best 18-49 performance of the night.
Please note that for all practical purposes the CBS data listed in the table below is fairly worthless. The overrun for the NCAA was not a full hour and 7p-8p was NCAA & 60 Minutes, 8p-9p was 60 Minutes and Big Brother, etc. I imagine those numbers will all change more than a smidge when the weekly results come out tomorrow.

this is exactly what will be be happening as more reality tv hits. bland numbers. people turning away from network tv because it looks like just another cable channel. when housewives comes back though… i’m sure there will be quite a jump.

Personally, I was watching the new Futurama episodes on Comedy Central, but I would NEVER stick around Fox to watch Unhitched, even if it was sandwiched in between the best animated comedy shows of all time!
