This week only six scripted shows made this list and four out of the six were the Monday night comedy lineup of How I Met Your Mother (and this is for the week before the Britney guest shot), The Big Bang Theory, Two and a Half Men, and The New Adventures of Old Christine all made the the top 20. Even a repeat of CSI: Miami made the top 25, so CBS’ entire Monday night lineup is a demo workhorse.
LOST and Medium were the only other unscripted shows in the list.
Throw in a few NCAA basketball items and Survivor: Micronesia, all tolled, CBS had eight shows in the top 20. ABC placed six shows, while NBC and FOX could place only three each. Of course in the case of FOX those three were two airings of American Idol (#1 and #2 on the list) and Moment of Truth (#8). NBC captured three out of the last four spots, with its best effort being Medium at #17.
Dancing with the Stars was back, and both episodes made the list, but it’s worth noting that the Idol results show (#2) had more than twice the demo viewers. The premiere of Dancing with the Stars on 3/17 had only a couple hundred thousand more demo viewers than Two and a Half Men, which along with LOST were the only two unscripted shows in the top five.
Sadly, for all but a few shows, (most of them on CBS for this week), unscripted seems to be where it’s at. Of course new episodes of scripted drama returns soon and I have no doubt that ABC will place Grey’s Anatomy, and Desperate Housewives in the list and that CBS will place all the CSI’s, Criminal Minds, NCIS and Without a Trace. I’m equally sure, however, that American Idol will retain the top two spots.

So, Grey’s Anatomy and Desperate Housewives are scripted dramas, but the comedy night of CBS, Lost or Medium are unscripted shows ?
Am I way too tired, or is there a little mistake there ?

it’s not you, it’s me. I had an “un” where none should’ve been in the first sentence. Fixed and thank you.

Okay, so not to be a PITA, but then shouldn’t the “un” in those two sentences be removed as well :
“LOST and Medium were the only other unscripted shows in the list.”
“(…)Two and a Half Men, which along with LOST were the only two unscripted shows in the top five.”
And yeah, so, what the Hell is CBS waiting for to renew How I Met Your Mother now !??

the jury has reached a verdict — I’m the one who is way too tired.
Hey, at least I was consistent.
CBS can still remember the day not all that long ago when every show in the top 20 was a 4.0 or better in the demo. I remember a top 20 from even this past fall where every show except #20 was (it was a 3.9). There was no AI on then though

18-49?
Older Americans wealthier, living longer
CHICAGO (Reuters) – Older Americans have more money and are expected to live far longer than prior generations, U.S. government researchers said on Thursday.
They said the average net worth of older Americans — those 65 or older — has increased almost 80 percent over the past 20 years.
And those who reach the age of 65 are now expected to live an average of 19 more years, or seven years longer than people who had reached age 65 in the year 1900.
The findings are part a report released on Thursday called Older Americans 2008: Key Indicators of Well-Being, which features data from 15 federal agencies on trends in population, economics and health issues.
The report forecasts that by 2030, the number of Americans over the age of 65 will nearly double to 71.5 million, or 20 percent of the U.S. population, up from 12 percent, or 37 million people, in 2006.

Patrick, as one who is just barely in the 18-49 demo, I’m not convinced that advertisers focus on the youth demographic is economically rational, but that it is their focus is undeniable.
