The Hollywood Reporter Dialogs with Network Executives and it looks like Sarah Connor and Summer Glau will be back!

Posted on 15 April 2008 by Robert Seidman

The Hollywood Reporter interviewed  network executives Dawn Ostroff (CW), Kevin Reilly (FOX) read it, but note THIS gem re: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: Reilly: They’re really the lead candidates at this point. We’ve already started staffing on ‘Sarah Connor.’ Although it was an unusual season, it will end up finishing by far and away the strongest new drama of the season. Other shows have not gotten the traction. Just because competition is softer doesn’t mean audience has to watch a show.

Also interviewed were Stephen McPherson (ABC) and Nina Tassler (CBS).  All the interviews are quick and worth the read.  I’ll have more thoughts on this later, but no time now.  I didn’t see any dialog with NBC, but it may be coming soon (or I missed it).

Uh, that would be of the last *two years*. How many news dramas have survived since “Bones”?

Get New Amsterdam on the agenda!

  5. Yup, they seriously need to give New Amsterdam a real chance next season. It obviously has staying power.

How can FOX think of developing all of these aggressive, expensive shows based on its track record? Just look back at its scripted shows for 2007-2008:

    Dramas:
    K-Ville–gone.
    Canterbury’s Law–on its deathbed.
    New Amsterdam–Steady, unspectacular numbers. Renewal???

    Comedies:
    Jezebel James–gone.
Back to You–Ok numbers. Probably will be renewed.
    Unhitched–Unspectacular. Probably will be renewed.

B2U has similar numbers to NA, but since its a comedy it will be back.

NA should come back as a midseason replacement, once these new shows start stinking up the place. Probably sucks for the actors, though.

FOX playing coy with the T:TSCC info is getting annoying. Just give the official nod already!

You can tell they’re milking the buzz for renewal as much as they can. It’s probably what’s keeping interest in the show so high right now. Well, that and Summer…

By the way, Robert, any thoughts on what day Sarah Connor should air on for next season? Shows for lead in?

  13. there are too many unknowns yet to really weigh in on it. It depends on how many episodes they plan to run, and how married they are to TSCC being only at 9pm. I’d love to see TSCC as the lead-in to 24. I’d hate to see TSCC go head-to-head with say, Heroes at 9pm on Mondays…

Robert have you checked out the new Whedon show Dollhouse yet? I actually think that might be a pretty good pairing with Terminator. It would be almost the exact same audience demo for both shows. I think instead of a lead-in effect they might just help each other out with a bit of synergy.

I agree though FOX needs to either change the time or get the show off Mondays. Going up against Heroes would hurt.

  17. Frank, it’s really not in my nature to get caught up in shows that aren’t actually shows yet.

I prefer to just let things play out, then watch the shows and make my judgements based on the actual programs. It’s probably not a great approach with a blog like this, but I find I wind up enjoying (good) shows much more when I didn’t have a lot of intimate knowledge about them before I started watching.

I am not big on reading spoilers, episode recaps and am especially uninterested in reading about things just getting into production. It’s just a personal bias. So I can make no comments at all about appropriateness of tag-teaming Dollhouse w/TSCC.
