Joe R, touche!

I should have written that they program to take advantage of their top shows as best they can.

NBC's success at 10pm is because of Law & Order and Law & Order:SVU. My guess is that those shows may be too "adult" to air at 9pm.

Bill, by your own analysis it is not crystal clear that NBC does that.

Jim, Fox may do it more effectively than others, but all the networks program to take advantage of their top show's audiences.

No offense, it's just that MOST of my FAVORITE shows are on FOX: PrisonBreak, House, Bones, The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad, Mad TV, Hell's Kitchen, The Tyra Show...

I fully disagree only because FOX stinks so bad if American Idol or House isn't on. The rest of their programming struggles badly if not paired with one of these shows.

This post was soooooooo right on!!!! FOX doesn't need another 7 hours, because 2 GRRRRREAT shows a night is wayyyyyyyyyyy better than 3 hours of average entertainment. What's more important is which network is #1 w/ advertisers. How much $$$ do Fox's 8PM shows get vs. the other networks, and how do the budgets for shows like CSI and House compare? If each episode of CSI costs $3 million, but House costs $1 million, and they both get top dollar from ads then FOX is still #1, cuz it wins the 18-49 demo too. If i ever wanted to go into the TV exec Biz I would want to work for Fox 20th century Home Television.
