Britney to Appear Again on CBS’ “How I Met Your Mother”?

Britney Spears on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother

People Magazine is reporting that Britney Spears will make another appearance on How I Met Your Mother

Although the ratings for How I Met Your Mother haven’t been bad for CBS, it seems they are trying to drum up some buzz any way they can.  The Britney appearance did bolster Mother’s Nielsen ratings significantly, particularly in the 18-49 age demographic.

Between the stories about how Neil Patrick Harris didn’t think the show should have Britney as a guest star – which he subsequently backpedaled on, it is the kind of news that reeks of desperation, but definitely in a more productive manner than the desperate antics of The CW network with Gossip Girl.

How I Met Your Mother is produced by FOX who wouldn’t confirm the appearance. Based on the most recent Nielsen ratings for the show, it would appear Spears value is an increase of a over 1% of all viewers aged 18-49. Without Britney, HIMYM got a 3.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic last week.  With Britney, it got a 4.5 rating in that age bracket.

That’s a pretty big deal ratings and we imagine if the story is true, Britney will be paid more this time than she was last time.

Robert, he didn’t backpedal, he just said they didn’t need stuntcasting to get by, and I agreed with him here.

  4. He went from “Just say no to Britney” to saying: “In fact, we are all hoping that she returns rather soon to reprise her role.”

    That’s some serious backpedaling.

My guess is that his later quotes were preceded by a briefing from the producer concerning the future/economics of the show and his continued lucrative employment in such.

  10. that’s a very short discussion:

“Do you LIKE your paycheck? If so, say nice things to EW about Britney!”

Can’t blame a man for liking his paycheck.

Indeed. With pretty much any actor in any primetime TV show on any network the end of their current employment is a negative earnings event that is not easily corrected.

I think what NPH was originally saying was that he didn’t think How I Met Your Mother “needed” stunt casting. I don’t think he was ever really hating on Britney.

I somewhat agree with him though. I mean, how sad is it that the show received a boost just cause Britney was in it?

CBS’s position here is understandable though. It received a boost when she was on, so it makes sense for them to try to cast her in the show again.

I agree with NPH but……..it’s more important that CBS saves this show. If a few stunt special guests is what it takes, I’m for it. This show is more clever than other laugh track comedies. Their use of flashbacks is excellent.
