Comcast (Baltimore) just added SciFi HD. There's nothing wrong with the signal, but the show is very clearly /not/ in HD (watching the episode entitled “Faith” now). My Tivo program info says “HD”, but the program appears as a standard-def picture in a box at the center of the screen. It's also very dark. I think I'll start recording the regular off of the regular non-HD SciFi channel again.

PS There's nothing wrong with my setup, since a few of the commercials /are/ coming in HD.

FrankJ, based on lots of net chatter, it’s very likely Comcast’s bandwidth management not the boxes. The HD boxes themselves *can* handle/show whatever Comcast sends them.

I’m guessing it’s Comcast and the Comcast cable box. A blu-ray disc on my PS3 is visibly better than my HD over the cable box.

It was definitely not SciFi HD. This has been a brewing issue with Comcast for a few weeks now. Check out the first page of the thread for all the meaty information: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1008271

I noticed similar issues with my Comcast channels in Minneapolis.

Anywho! That BSG episode was fantastic – Though I wish SciFi wouldn’t give away so much in the previews!

I have HD service but not an HDtv. However, I could still be happy watching the show on the old black and white set whose sound randomly turns itself up and down.

Great episode last Friday night. My jaw was dropped for the entire last 10 minutes.
