|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Total Viewers (million) | 13.15 | 11.46 | 9.86 | 8.34 | 2.63 |
| Rating/Share: Adults 18-49 | 3.5/9 | 4.0/10 | 2.8/7 | 2.6/7 | 1.3/3 |
Some things are easily predictable and at this point predicting that ABC will win the most viewers on a Monday and that CBS will win the 18-49 year old age demographic and be followed by NBC, FOX and The CW is one of them.
Dancing with the Stars was again the most watched show on a Monday night (17.82 million), but CBS has that youthful Monday spring in its step. The most notable thing to me of the night was not DWTS (or Gossip Girl) but rather how totally Rules of Engagement destroyed Samantha Who? in the 18-49 demographic. It was a smackdown! The shows had about the same amount of viewers (10.13 million for Samantha, 10.6 million for Rules) but Rules had a 4.1/10 in the 18-49 demographic where Samantha could muster but a 2.9/7.
Other things that stick out to me. If the there is a lower HUT (household universe of television – jargon for the number of homes with televisions turned on and watching tv) at 8pm due to Daylight Savings Time why does FOX run the new episode of Bones at 8pm and a repeat of House at 9pm?
Why not switch that around. As it is, the repeat of House did about as well as the new Bones. That seems dumb to me and I’d switch it up. I understand the fear around “changing things around”, but in this day in age, people can find the shows they want to watch. It seems like Bones would’ve gotten more juice at 9pm. But, alas, I’m an unemployed blogger not a network executive.
As for Gossip Girl the only nice thing I can say about it was I found the title of last night’s episode, “The Blair Bitch Project” at least mildly amusing. Only 2.44 million tuned in, even though there will be no Internet streaming. We can conclude that little stunt accomplished, well, absolutely nothing. Meanwhile, One Tree Hill with total lack of promotion and abundant Internet streaming reeled in 2.82 million or almost 16% more viewers than Gossip Girl. Update: I did not give Gossip Girl or the CW enough credit with regard to improvements in the 18-49 demo, which did improve over the pre-strike average. More here.
See Monday Night’s full details:

I agree Matt. Even without Britney, those are good numbers. Not so good for TBBT, though I know everyone will say if HIMYM and it switched timeslots, the ratings would reverse. I’d like to see them do just that next week so we can see if that’s the case but CBS’ goal isn’t to satisfy my curiosity!

This is getting ridiculous. Everyone I know watches Gossip Girl- but they all have to watch it online due to college/work. Besides, I don’t even know who these Nielsen people are. Maybe what they should do is not promote Gossip Girl, so as to not waste their money on ads, take it off the airwaves for a week, and only show that episode on iTunes. Then you’ll know how many people are watching (and you’ll make a little money, too). Then just add in a BUNCH of product placement and presto.

GG did good considering that almost every show is under the weather, I mean atleast it didn’t lose any viewers and has perhaps gained few.
I think the show is sheer trash but it is shot spectacularly and those clothes, OMG! I love NY.

The 2.9 on “Samantha Who”…in todays TV world…wont hurt..years ago it would have..but that was back when development found new break out hit scripted pilots with greater regularity…so what we see is networks renewing shows doing average to below average numbers…why?…same reason you dont throw your wife out…you know what she brings to the table…as opposed to some new ball and chain…who very well…would perform worse. and cost you more in the long run. as for mark “verman” the “tv bystander”…on appearance alone…he will never be mistaken for a high powered tv network executive.

They air Gossip Girl in India? Really? With the most recent episodes?
As for “surfthechannel”, pretty sure the CW would consider that an illegal streaming site, but it’s impressive how quickly they get the new episodes up!

They haven’t aired the post-strike episodes yet and I don’t think that is happening any soon. Terminator was on 2 hours ago, I think it was 7th episode, not sure, but Pushing Daisies would take its slot soon.

Amen! HIMYM is the best show on television. It’s so well written, and the cast has such a great chemistry. I PRAY CBS gives this gem another season, as I just “found” it this fall (and have converted 4 more new die-hard fans).

Compare these numbers and Big Bang doesn’t have nearly as bad a rating as we might think:
CBS Big Bang Theory 7.51 2.9/8 4.6
NBC Deal or No Deal 10.02 2.6/7 6.2
FOX Bones 8.64 2.7/7 5.8
the 18/49 and Share numbers are very good compared to more widely viewed competitors

Jon, it’s risky to make such comparisons without the half hourly data for those other shows (and DWTS and Gossip Girl, for that matter!), which unfortunately we don’t have
But that said, I don’t think the numbers for TBBT are *bad*, but nor are they stellar.

I surrender the fight over TBBT, obviously it won’t pull the ratings down I think it should. Hopefully those numbers are enough to bring it back, that’s all I really care about. Although if HIMYM is on the bubble with it’s ratings….sigh.
With the numbers of House and Bones…is it safe to finally stick a fork in New Amsterdam? I assume most have already but was just curious.

Gossip Girl is extremely ‘clicquie’ – I don’t mean that in a bad way.
I bought the show on TVBS against all odds this week… but if you like the show (I saw 10 mins of it once), you know tons of people who also like it (I don’t know those kinds of people – ask anyone). It’s one of ‘those’ shows.
I’ve had a number of ‘those’ shows (like PTI???) that is an acquired, lonely, taste-type show. that you either like. as do your friends, or you’re out on an island with it.
C’est la vie.

I don’t understand how is OTH doesn’t have a higher rating.THe show has the drama viewers like, and it’s deep.It has a message and quality, and the cast is good.
I really don’t understand why is Dancing with the Stars so popular :O
And Gossip girl is fine, nth special, but it’s fun to watch, though the newer episodes are slightly less dynamic and interesting than the first ones.
