I loved the way tonight’s Boston Legal opened the episode, poking fun at both network scheduling and its own “on the bubble” status as far as renewal.
They even worked it in without having to break the “fourth wall“.
Tonight’s episode starts off with Denny Crane (William Shattner), Carl Sack (John Larroquette) and Clarence Bell (Gary Anthony Williams) all sitting around waiting for a meeting to begin.
Then, Denny starts the dialogue:
Denny: It’s Ten O’Clock
Carl: Are We Not On?
Clarence: It’s supposed to be Tuesday at 10 every week
Whitney Rome (Taraji P. Henson) enters the room…
Whitney: We’ve been moved. We’re Wednesday at 10.
Carl: Nobody called me.
Whitney: They told Howie in Word Processing
Carl: They called Howie in World Precessing?
Denny: Are we Wednesdays at 10 from now on?
Whitney: No, we’re off next week then on for the following two Wednesdays
Denny: What about next year?
Whitney: Best to just keep checking in with Howie
For those not keeping tabs, typically Boston Legal is on Tuesdays at 10pm. Tonight it was on Wednesday at 10pm, it’s not on next week, and then back on Wednesdays at 10pm for two weeks. As for next year…what say you, Howie!?

If this show hadn’t turned itself into a Bush-bashing, Republican-hating show, it wouldn’t be on the bubble. It might be good for “getting your message” out there, but most of America, liberal or conservative, doesn’t want to hear what whiny Hollywood has to say.
I swear to god, every episode I’ve watched this season has been overtly Bush bashing, from No Child Left Behind to nuclear weapons in Cape Cod.

I loved the beginning of the show! That’s one of the reasons I continue to tune in each week, and I miss it when it’s not on! I’m not into the political bashing, but I felt like the Democratic party got banged up a bit last night as well.
The characters are what keep bringing me back. The storylines can vary from the ridiculous to the sublime, and there’s always alot of humor and very often at least one moment that makes you stop and think. Isn’t that what good TV is supposed to do?

Hey Tony:
What’s your problem with the First Amendment, wingnut moron?

Is Howie from (W)ord (P)rocessing supposed to be Howard Kurtz from the (W)ashington (P)ost?
Very cute.

Mark:
“Wingnut moron”? Really? That’s why Dems won’t win in 08, right there. For the record, I’m a Libertarian fed up with both parties.
My problem is not with the first amendment. I simply pointed out that most of America doesn’t really care what Hollywood has to say, and it has been proven that Bush-bashing actually lowers ratings (ask NBC), so its no surprise why Boston Legal is “on the bubble”.

… and now back to our regularly-scheduled commenting.
Politics aside, thanks to Robert for the opening blurbs on BL cuz I can only DVR one and watch one (or DVR two) shows at a time – and apparently the networks think it’s smart to take three good programs and run them simultaneously – forcing me to miss something somewhere.
RE: Fourth Wall… I did not know that… thnx.

Jericho on CBS died when they turned the show into an Iraq war, evil corporation, Bush/Cheney bashing Moonbat fantasy fulfullment excercise where 2 dozen US cities get nuked by an evil corporation resembling Haliburton/Blackwater USA complete with a bald evil white man who looked like a cross between Dick Cheney and Karl Rove.
Not surprising since nearly all movies of this type usually tank at the box office. Of course Hollyweird is 90% liberal so its really no suprise. Last night on the dying ER, a guy robbed a jewerly store then held the ER hostage – why? His mortgage payments doubled. Ugh…

Guess Who –
You gotta admit that the sub-prime has left tons of victims… why would you immediately go to ‘Liberals’ as bashing Bush on this one.
I think you just showed your true colors by politicizing a nationwide problem and getting ‘extremely’ defensive about it.
You may need to re-assess the color of glasses you’re wearing when you seem to be on the ‘extreme right’ of everything.
p.s. – according to world economists, the U.S. economy is in the worst shape since the depression and it is mainly because of Bush and Cheney’s policies on Economics, Energy, Monetary decisions and International Diplomacy… and that’s a fact.
Bush and Cheney (along with ‘the Boys’ have drained off nearly a TRILLION dollars from ‘our’ economy and put it in the hands of the rich and powerful.

Guess Who and Mark are right on the money. People tune in to fiction shows for a little fantasy. If they want to talk hear what people have to say about the war in Iraq or the economy or whatever other political issue, they’ll tune into the news. Most of us don’t want to be ‘educated’ by Hollywood liberals who believe they are experts on a topic becaues they once ‘pretended really good’ to be affected by that topic. Going political is the kiss of death for TV shows. The day Lost reveals The Island is a consequence of global warming is the day the show begins a rapid downward spiral.

I will be very disappointed if Boston Legal is not renewed. The episodes written by David Kelly personally provide the only place on TV that has the integrity to denounce the least ethical, least educated, least rational, least intelligent, least truthful, and most bigoted president America will ever have, along with his entire theofascist Taliban Gestapo. If “Bush-bashing” is a bad thing, then so is Hitler-bashing.
