Gossip Girl, It’s No Fuego En La Sangre!

Posted on 30 April 2008 by Robert Seidman

Univision’s Fuego En La SangreUnivision premiered its latest tele-novela, Fuego en la Sangre (Burning for Revenge) on Monday night at 9pm and set ratings records for the network. The show performed amazingly well and beat the living daylights out of, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, The Hills, etc., by almost every metric except teenagers. And among the key 18-34 demographic it beat a litany of Monday night broadcast network television competition.

Highlights:

  • Total Viewers 2+ (5,290,000)
  • Adults 18-49 (3,140,000)
  • Adults 18-34 (1,980,000)
  • Men 18-49 (1,400,000)
  • Men 18-34 (900,000)
  • Women 18-49 (1,740,000)
  • Women 18-34 (1,080,000)
  • Teens 12-17 (360,000)

Univision’s dominance in the 18-34 metric is impressive and for the night in that demo they were the number 2 network, trailing only FOX (which got huge demo numbers out of House). Shows Univision beat in the 18-34 demo:

  • ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars,” “Samantha Who?,” and “The Bachelor: London Calling”
  • CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory,” “Rules of Engagement,” and “CSI: Miami”
  • NBC’s “Deal or No Deal” and “Medium”
  • Fox’s “Bones”
  • CW’s “Gossip Girl” and “One Tree Hill”

In local markets it was the number one show in the 18-34 demo in LA, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix as well as the home of TVbytheNumbers, San Francisco! It was also the top show among adults 18-49 in LA, Houston, Dallas and Phoneix. But it was this snippet from the press release that really grabbed my attention:

Also, for Adults 18-34 in Los Angeles KMEX had MORE VIEWERS than the COMBINED Audience for ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX.

That’s extreme local 18-34 demo dominance.

BG Edit: Univision is definitely a network on the rise. They’ve squashed the CW this season in all demos, and trail CBS only marginally among adults 18-34.

That’s funny. I would laugh my paints off if MyNetworkTV tries their hand at adapting tele-novas one more time for an English market and adapts Fuego en la Sangre (Burning for Revenge) as a weekly English show and it beats what ever CW airs on that day & time. That would be classic.

  9. Good, because I was having a hard time figuring out what he was doing on Univision, let alone on another hit show.

it’s “Fire in the Blood” not “Burning for Revenge”. and it’s one hell of a show!! <3 i personally love it! so does my mom. i wouldn’t be suprised if the U.S, adapted it…they seem to steal everything good. anywho, i’m glad they beat Gossip girl. Oh hey!! it’s on right now!!

  12. You’re right, this is an awesome telenovela. My wife and I watch it and it keeps us on the edge of our seats. We also try to guess what’s going to happen next. We would like for it to keep on going longer than an hour, but we also know that when it finally ends, we will miss it and have nothing else to watch at that time anymore.

    Thanks!!!
