Switching the Comments to Disqus

Posted on 02 May 2008 by Robert Seidman

DisqusI’d been looking for a better comments solution and hopefully have found it in Disqus, a Silcon Valley based start-up whose progress I’ve been following for a while now on some of the blogs I read regularly.  There are a few things I like about the system besides “hopefully they’re prettier” without requiring me to restyle the CSS for Wordpress comments!

There are two major benefits for us:  one is that we can respond to comments via e-mail, and both home and away that’s a real bonus.  Secondly there are a variety of ways to access and share the comments througout the Internet that didn’t exist with the current system.

If you already have a Disqus account, you’ll be able to use it here.  If not, I encourage you to check it out at www.disqus.com, although you will still be able to post comments without registering.

All old posts will still be with the “old” comments, but all new posts will have the Disqus comments.  Hopefully it will work out without any major hiccups!

  1. Plus I can blind you with the glare off my head :-)

  2. Polly says:

Like the new comment feature. One question though. Will they eventually show up under recent comments? I like that feature of your site.

  3. I will have to add a new “widget” (there is a very cool one for Disqus) but was waiting until more comments are on the disqus system. Probably will take existing “recent comments” widget off for ~1 week and then put the new cooler one up :-)

  4. Polly says:

Thanks for the response. (Now to figure out all the ins and outs of the new system.)

  5. The great thing about all the “free” stuff is there's no harm in having BOTH widgets for a while, so I added the one for Disqus. Please weigh in on whether you would rather have the default tab be the most popular posts commented on, or the recent comments.

Polly, I encourage you to register and upload a picture — it can be whatever you want, including your favorite Moonlight character (I have NO doubt who that is) or your favorite BSG character — I'm guessing Lee, but…not sure othter than knowing it's NOT Admiral Adama!

  6. Polly says:

Robert – Personally I like having the most recent comments.

This may not be the right place to ask, but am I the only one having trouble with Marc's site? It's like it disappeared today (Sunday).

I'll try to register and post a picture. I have about 1,000 product descriptions to write in the next month so might take me a little bit. Oh and you would be right about which one is my favorite Moonlight character! :) As far as BSG goes not really a fan of any of the characters any more, I was just razzing you guys about the Admiral picture. (Won't say no to any beefcake pictures you decide to post :) though)
