  1. carolyn says:

    thanks for posting this information..

i couldn’t find it anywhere else.

    thanks again!

  2. Joe Bua says:

Good for The Singing Bee, they use union writers.

Yet it’s still a game show. In prime time. And that’s just sad, imho.

  3. Mei says:

This is fabulous! Thanks for putting this together, it’s incredibly handy.

  4. Tim says:

Thanks for the post…. However Big Brothers premier date is Feb. 12, 2008.

  5. Bill Gorman says:

Tim, caught my typo, thanks! Has been corrected.

  6. Suziq says:

Thank you for all your hard work, and keeping up updated. Moonlight, though, has 2 new episodes left not 1. They are airing new episodes on Jan 4 and Jan 11. Thanks again.

  7. Bill Gorman says:

Suziq, thanks for your info. And I will add a general note above asking folks for better info if they have it.

  8. Georgia says:

Thanks so much for keeping track of this. It takes alot of work to gather all this info.

  9. Suzanne says:

Hi Bill. Thanks for keeping us up to date. CBS recently changed the airdates for the new Moonlight episodes to 1/11 and 1/18, one week later than orignally planned. The new Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs episodes are scheduled for the same nights.

  10. Thanks for the heads-up, Suzanne, changes to the table have been made.

  11. Amanda says:

Thanks for all the info – I was hoping Pushing Daisies might come back but no such luck. Also, Prison Break is supposed to come back on 1/14, according to fox.com.

  12. Bill Gorman says:

    Amanda, thanks for the info.

Many networks, Fox and CW in particular, have been changing their previously announced scheduling plans recently.

  13. NCIS-Fan says:

Thank you for the info. Last new NCIS episode will be aired 01/15.

  14. Eric says:

Are you guys going to show the affects to shows now that the strike has ended?

  15. Bill Gorman says:

Eric, what leads you to believe the strike is over? The interim agreement with Letterman’s production company? That ended the strike for two shows.

  16. Clayton says:

Carpoolers is shown as returning on Tuesdays at 9:30, following Jim.

  17. E says:

Anyone know when NBC will show the remaining 2 episodes of CHUCK?

  18. E says:

Thanks. CHUCK is by far the best new show on TV.
Also, one more question. Is there any news on the strike status?
What are the chances of the strike ending in time to salvage the rest of the spring season?

  19. Bill Gorman says:

In my opinion, there is no chance the strike will end soon enough to get new episodes written and produced for this season.

I think, at this point, the networks next fall back point is their ability to get pilots created for *next* season. I think that’s not yet in serious danger, but no talks are going on, and the next event likely to trigger movement is the beginning of the Directors Guild negotiations with the studios/networks.

  20. WHOLETRUTHY says:

holy crap we’re out of tv

  21. Angela Thorpe says:

The cbs.com website shows Jericho starting on February 12th.

  22. Rena Moretti says:

I wouldn’t hold my breath for Jericho to help CBS weather the strike.

It was low-rated and poorly received by the audience and CBS has given no indication the new short season will be any different.

  23. Dee says:

I respect the writers strike, but PLEASE when you do come back, bring back MOONLIGHT.

  24. Jason says:

About Jericho, I only watched a few episodes before life got in the way, but I seem to recall that it was getting pretty good ratings during its fall ‘06 run. I believe that things went downhill only after the long (3 month?) hiatus. Not all that dissimilar from what happened to Lost last season as well. And with few other new shows still on, Jericho will likely get the benefit of more prominent advertising and a good timeslot.

  25. Rob says:

It appears that ABC is holding the 2 remaining “Brothers & Sisters” episodes for February sweeps (perhaps Feb 10 and 17)because it has scheduled reruns for Jan 20 and 27, and the Super Bowl airs Feb 3.

  26. Rena Moretti says:

Jason, I believe you recall wrongly the Jericho ratings.

While I’m sure the average audience was higher before the hiatus than after, it was mostly because that included the well-promoted premiere.

Jericho never had good ratings and I would be flabbergasted if it got traction even without competition because of the strike.

My prediction is that it will bleep slightly in its season 2 premiere because of renewed promotion, and lacking an all-out PR assault (the kind that keeps The Office and Family Guy afloat through weekly PR expenditures) will go back to norm and keep falling.

  27. Jon V says:

I think ‘Samantha Who’ has a new episode Mon. Jan 28 and ‘Big Bang Theory’ has one in the can that has never aired (probably due to Chuck Lorre’s stance on the strike).

  28. Bill Gorman says:

Jon, our best info has the 1/28 Samantha Who as a rerun, but if you can provide a link I will happily update.

Same with Big Bang Theory, our best info has that all 8 of the produced episodes were aired, but, again, we are open to correction if you can link the info.

  29. E says:

Anyone know when the next installmant of AMAZING RACE will air?

  30. Bill Gorman says:

E, no announcement as to timing of the next Amazing Race.

  31. Michael says:

Does anyone know how long after the strike ends it will be before new episodes start airing again? I know it will probably be different for every show, but I’m just wondering about a general time frame for how long it will take to get new episodes ready to air.

  32. Bill Gorman says:

Michael, I would be startled if there are more than a handful of shows, if that many, that manage to get new shows produced and on the air this season. Even if, as is widely rumored, the WGA may settle soon.

  33. Glenda says:

Has anyone heard if Journeyman has been canceled for good? I really loved that show… that and Moonlight were my favorite of the 2007 season.

  34. Bill Gorman says:

Glenda, Hard to pin down absolutes in this strike season because the networks aren’t being definitive about much of their moves, either because they hate to admit defeat or because they don’t know what they’re going to do.

But we do know that all Journeymen episodes have aired, they are not in reruns, and NBC has not ordered any more, nor given any hint that they will.

  35. Rena Moretti says:

NBC is especially hard to pin down as they seem to rather renew a non-performing show than try something else.

However, I wouldn’t hold my breath for Journeyman to come back (or Bionic Woman for that matter).

Shows could get very quickly back into production. It’d take only a few days to polish one script that was left unfinished and start production again.

You could easily have new shows made within three weeks of the end of the strike.

I’m wondering what makes you think, Bill, that it’d take any longer than that (besides the fact that the networks are likely to want to kill bad shows by blaming the WGA and not themselves – although in the case of badly written shows, the writers have a hand too…)

  36. Niina says:

    Hi,

I have always felt rather annoyed living in Finland where we get the shows sometimes even a year or two after they have premiered in the States. But now that the strike is on, I am glad since we still have new episodes of e.g. Grey’s Anatomy, House and others to see.

Thank you for this site, I found what I was looking for!

  37. Bill Gorman says:

Rena,I think, and without any objective fact to back it up, that the calendar would seem to allow the timeline of finishing a script, getting filming going, and completing post-production and getting an episode on the air before the end of May, it’s not clear how many episodes could be completed. Is it worth spinning up the entire process just to get out 2 or 3 episodes?

If that’s the case, I’d guess that the networks might try and get out a few episodes of some particularly high value shows for the 4/24-5/21 sweeps, but would likely skip spooling up the entire process for most shows.

  38. Rena Moretti says:

Bill, I agree that the effort is only worth it for high rated shows like House and NCIS. There’s also the possibility, depending how contracts are written to have the shows forgo the summer hiatus and keep working over the summer to fill the order.

Again, this only makes sense for high rated shows of which the networks will want more.

It may also come down to how much they want new episodes of hits versus how much they want to kill non-performing shows with the strike excuse.

Having thought some more about it, getting going on an existing show is really not that hard. You have a team that’s been unemployed and eager to work. The only delay is in getting the first episode completely written. After that, it’s really business as usual. One episode every week and a half to two weeks, roughly speaking.

And that’s if you don’t try stunts like shooting two episodes at once.

  39. Michael says:

Does anyone know what the future status of average performing shows like The Unit will be? It’s my favorite show and I know they don’t have any more episodes made, but I was curious if you know whether they will attempt to put out more episodes before the summer, run new episodes during the summer or just pick up where they left off next fall?

  40. Peter says:

Is it possible that the strike could cause poorly performing shows to be renewed, simply because there “may” (I actually have no idea, I’m just guessing) be less written pilots for next fall? Couldn’t some shows possibly get a few scripts for the fall, just to see if they can get some steam back and if not, then new shows can premiere in their slots in winter/spring?

  41. Bill Gorman says:

Peter, Absolutely. Networks have already announced the paring of their pilot efforts for next season, and I expect them to engage in plenty of “the devil I know” vs. “the devil I don’t” and keep some relatively underperforming shows from this season around.

  42. Bill says:

“Big Bang Theory” doesn’t have “one in the can.” They were in the middle of shooting an episode when the strike hit.

  43. Peter says:

So has Moonlight been officially renewed since you have it for Fall 2008?

  44. William says:

I worked on Singing Bee – we were 100% WGA and had wrapped the season by the beginning of the strike. The ratings were “bubble” but we were told to not expect a pick-up.

  45. Jon V says:

How about a big hand for Bill Gorman, who has to have been working 25/8 to get out all of this info and reply to all of our well-meaning (if mis-informed) questions and comments…

  46. Jon V says:

Re: Big Ban Theory ‘one in the can’ interrupted filming:

Here is the ‘TV.com’ link for ‘The Cooper-Hofstadter Polarization’ episode that was supposedly done/aired but I never saw. Can anyone tell me if it was aired? An insider named ‘Bill’ (not Gorman, presumably) suggested that an episode did not finish filming because of the strike:

    (cut and paste)
    http://www.tv.com//the-cooper-hofstadter-polarization/episode/1149664/summary.html?q=&tag=search_results;episode_title;2

  47. Jon, my info is that the episode never aired.

  48. Jon V says:

TY on both counts, Robert. My guess is the un-aired episode gives Lorre/CBS a one-week head start on other shows/networks that have exhausted their backlog of new episodes.

  49. Jon V says:

Re: Rena and Bill discussing network strategies for this April/May season.

If I were a Network Honcho (and I guess I am at least a fantasy newtwork owner – click

    http://www.tvbigshot.com/network/8623/

I would not waste first-run, top-rated shows like House, NCIS, etc against a lot of the drivel out there when my reruns are besting other new programming. I can sell advertising at better than average rates and hold back my ‘heavy artillery’ for sweeps and other big head-to-head ratings battles.

This is not necessarily good for the viewers, but I haven’t seen many networks consider that in their decisions since the advent of reality shows.

  50. Bill Gorman says:

Jon V, I agree, whatever the networks have in reserve they will use from April 24 – May 21, which are the last sweep dates for this season.

  51. Bill says:

Here’s the deal on the episode of “Big Bang Theory.” The episode, titled “The Cooper-Hofstadter Polarization” was in the middle of its production when the strike hit. “Big Bang Theory” films on Tuesday nights. The table read for the episode was the Wednesday before the strike. There was a run-through on Thursday and a network/studio run-through on Friday. A revised script was prepared on Friday night incorporating the studio and network notes. The strike began during the subsequent week-end and the episode was never filmed.

It will be the first episode to be filmed when production resumes in a couple of weeks. The episode is being directed by Joel Murray (younger brother of Bill).

  52. Jon V says:

TY, Bill. Had to figure it would be the next new episode shown. Do I owe you the usual $200 a day plus expenses or can I just run a tab?

  53. Lizabeth S. Tucker says:

In regards to NCIS, that information is not from the people at NCIS, that is supposition from a TV Guide hack. It naturally COULD occur, but is not definite. At best, the earliest that the crew could get back to work with filming (after the script is written, submitted, accepted, pre-filming work is completed, etc.) would be late March. Of course, if the networks do away with seasons as they have been threatening to do forever, who knows what could happen. And let’s not forget the possible SAG strike which would begin sometime in June.

  54. Jon V says:

The NCIS situation brings up several interesting points, such as:

Getting as many episodes of a viable show in the can prior to the SAG vote. Rank and file WGA and SAG members may want to get in some work prior to the vote, especially in this economy where they’ve seen their stock portfolios and home equity drop.

Producers will want to have as many of their top shows ready for future airings so as to have some kind of leverage/revenue streams with networks and sponsors.

Does the WGA settlement proposal create a template for SAG negotiations?

Does anybody (other than reality show producers and possibly networks) profit from another strike?

    Hmmmmm….

  55. C. says:

Ms. Moretti, you are wrong on the ratings for Jericho. The show drew 11.6 million viewers in its first week and maintained a consistent 10-11 million viewers throughout its fall run, even winning the time slot once “Dancing with the Stars” ended. In the spring, after the long hiatus, pitted against American Idol, it fell to 8 million viewers, but consistently ranked number two in its time slot (and who beats Idol?). To say that “Jericho never had good ratings” is, at the very least, ignoring its good performance in the first half of the season.

  56. E says:

Anyone know when Amazing Race will come back?

Any chance this will be back in the spring? Or, is the next one going to be fall?

  57. Marc Meisels says:

People! We have had enough REALITY – It’s time to support and watch as much scripted shows as possible. REAL people working on (or related to) these shows have been significantly devastated. I just found out my show may have been cancelled.
There are many great Scripted shows to tune in to.
Support the working class! – not these senseless / effortless reality shows

    THANK YOU

  58. Suziq says:

CBS just released their spring returns. Moonlight is back!!! 4 episodes starting Apr 11.

  59. Bill Gorman says:

Thanks Suziq, all CBS information has now been updated.

  60. Diana says:

Would love to see a more detailed grid on show status — what about the cable shows? What about Battlestar? Eureka? The Closer? Saving Grace? Damages? There’s a significant amount of scripted drama that doesn’t appear on the networks you listed.

Don’t get me wrong — I always appreciate your info — it’d just be nice to see a more complete picture.

  61. Bill Gorman says:

Diana, I’m considering increasing the table data, but there are many factors involved. Information on most cable shows is *really* scarce. And while I can maintain the table with pretty much every english broadcast primetime show, there’s no way I could include every cable show, so there’d always be shows left out.

  62. Frankie says:

According to Tuesday’s USA Today, ABC’s “Big Shots” has been canceled and has completed airing its first run episodes.

  63. Jennifer says:

According to Entertainment Weekly Samantha Who is set to return in late March with 6+ episodes.

  64. Peter says:

I think Las Vegas has been canceled (according to TV Guide and TV.com)

  65. Teresa says:

According to TV Guide (posted 2/24), 6 new scripts were ordered for Lipstick Jungle.

  66. jay turney says:

Very informative. Hard to get these facts anywhere else, if at all.

  67. jacks07 says:

We want Journeyman back!!!! If you love Journeyman as much as the rest of us and havent done so already please join the fight to save this amazing show! It hasnt officially been canceled yet so there is still a chance!! Please lets bring this show back! the more people the better!!!

Leave the light on for Journeyman!

  68. Mike G says:

What annoys me is that a show like “Journeyman” was canceled, but a show like “Lipstick Jungle” gets a call back. I like some of the offerings that NBC has lined up for the fall, but I really am not sure that I want to get invested in them. Every time I get into a show, it gets cut. And, what is the fascination with “Friday Night Lights”? The ratings have been dismal for a while. I haven’t heard of any big campaigns to save the show ala “Jericho” and “JM”.

  69. ziasca says:

    come on!
Lipstick jungle gets renewal and big shots gets cancellation? Is there anything wrong…

  70. ann koeffler says:

Could someone tell me if the Vampire show
    Moonlight will return?

    What about Damages and Madmen?

    All are fabuous!

  71. Bill Gorman says:

Ann, still no news on next year for Moonlight, but all the fans that visit here are hopeful. I’d give it better than a 50% chance of coming back.

We get so little cable show data, that we haven’t been able to form any opinion on the future of Damages and Madmen, sorry.

  72. kayarn says:

mad men already got a second season and it will air in the summer.

damages got a second AND third season, 2 is set to air in january (writers strike delayed it).

  73. Thanks Kayarn. Bill, we don’t receive much info on cable, true, but almost anything in the world can be Googled except apparently how to make $37 million a year and be just like Les Moonves as your company slumps…

  74. Andrea says:

I was quite glad to see that Scrubs was moving to ABC for season 8! I’ve been looking everywhere for news on it and wondering what was going to happen. I’d heard that it was canceled after this season, heard only rumors that ABC had picked it up, and saw that next Thursday’s finale was only a season finale, not a series finale, so I was confused. Thanks for the information on that! Is this move only going to be for one season to finish up the show cause it didn’t get a long season this year due to the strike, or is this a more permanent change? Also, any news on what time it’s going to air on ABC yet? Thanks!

  75. Bill Gorman says:

Andrea, ABC should be announcing its Fall 2008 schedule within the next few weeks.

  76. Bill Gorman says:

jeanie3, Sadly, one of the mistakes I made putting this list together was not having a way to track all my sources for each change.

That being the case, Big Shots falls into the category of a show that has been generally agreed to have been cancelled even though ABC never explicitly announced it. In fact networks often, and Fox is probably the worst offender, pull shows from their schedules and make no announcement at all, ever.

Regardless, all doubts will soon be dispelled, ABC, Fox, CBS, and the CW will announce their 2008 schedules next week.

  77. K says:

    knight rider?

  78. Bill Gorman says:

K, Knight Rider will come to NBC next fall, this chart was just for shows that aired during the 2007-8 season and their futures.

  79. shellestrada says:

According to TV.com, the 2 hour season finale for NCIS is slated for 5/20/08 not 5/16 which makes sense since its a Tuesday night show. Please let me know if that is incorrect via another source.

    http://www.tv.com/ncis/show/16772/episode_listi...

  80. Bill Gorman says:

shellestrada, you are indeed correct, I must have made an error while updating the CBS shows.

  81. K says:

Knight rider did air one episode during the 07-08 season

  82. It was a made for TV movie, not a “series” at the time. Good results though!

  83. mark lake says:

well i guess im s.o.l.on friday night wwe smackdown,im on cable here and it dont have my network tv as a channel and your list said that cw is dropping smackdown .so i guess its bye bye to one of my favorite shows and im on mediacom cable

  84. cedgil2006 says:

I can not believe they cancelled Moonlight. That was the best show ever!!!!!!!!!! Can anything be done to try to get it back on?

  85. Black Guy says:

    phenomenon was a good fucking show ;_;

  86. carrie says:

I am sooooooo mad about october road being canceled. i was such a good show
