Joe, that's definitely the case [much older skewing viewership] for news shows in general, and the above post is just news shows.

Plenty of other shows have a much higher proportion of younger viewers, check these out:

It's seems to me on most overall ratings there are more viewers outside the 25-54 range then inside it. I don't understand why the 25-54 range is considered so important to the advertisers in the whole sceme of things, I can't think of anything else when more means less and less means more to people…Especially with people living longer and longer and….

Joe, television networks primarily sell their advertising based on age demographic viewership (in this case adults 25-54), so while we usually try to feature both total viewers and age demographic viewers in our posts, it's the age demographic viewers that deliver the advertising revenue.

You are correct in your observation that O'Reilly has a far larger overall viewership than Olbermann/Countdown, but their viewership among adults 25-54 is much closer.

The vast majority of O'Reilly's viewers are 55+ (on the night above, 2.1 million out of 2.6 million)

I don't really understand the “demo” thing. There are so many more viewers outside the “demo” thing and its not close. The “demo” thing was a tie between O Rielly and Oberman. Outside the “demo” thing its O Rielly 3-1….and both numbers are alot higher then the “demo” thing.

Can someone help me with this and tell me why the “demo” thing is so important when outside the “demo” thing has more views…
