We know the Moonlight fans are not happy about the cancellation. We’re sure even they will be especially interested to see how Ex-List does this coming fall on Fridays at 9pm on CBS. The real question isn’t whether Ex-List will do better in Moonlight in terms of total viewers, but whether Ex-List will outperform Moonlight in the coveted 18-49 demographic.
Although on one hand CBS claims that it doesn’t really care about the 18-49 demo, but when it came to Moonlight they made it clear that they certainly do care about that demographic. The truth is, Ex-List could have 2 million fewer viewers than Moonlight but if it winds up getting a 2.5 in the demo, CBS will see it as progress. So the question is: will the Ex-List do better than Moonlight in the 18-49 demographic? We’ve created a poll to let you weigh in:

CBS have dissapointed and angered millions of devoted female Moonlight fans. Most, like me, will not watch Ex-List on principle. How can CBS hurt so many people and not expect some kind of backlash?
Moonlight has it faithful fans that will not be watching Ex-list. CBS as well as the other networks have a habit of killing off shows for reality shows. There is a huge market when it comes to paranormal shows which have a huge following. As a author of paranormal romances, cancelling Moonlight when then promo for it on YouTube sucks, I am in demo age of 18-49 and my 14 yr old daughter loved watching Moonlight. What was CBS thinking??

I am 38 with 3 kids and lovedddddd Moonlight! It was different and exciting. I did not normally watch tv on Friday nights, but got hooked (along with my husband) on Moonlight and made sure my dvr was always set for Fridays at 9:00 on CBS. I will definitley not be making time in my busy schedule to sit a watch a woman try and find the husband that she let get away based upon the advice of a psychic! Does CBS honestly believe that a show about a woman complaining about not being married is going to play better with women 19-49 than a show about sexy vampires caught in ongoing dilema of mortality and love! Please!!!!!! CBS needs a reality check!!!!

The commercial was better than the Ex-List promo. What a waste of time and money spent on making this show. Bring Back Moonlight!! As a retired teacher, I am appalled by CBS for canceling a quality show like “Moonlight” and replacing it with “Ex-List”. The plot , a young woman who will be checking out her ex-boyfriends to see which one will be her husband, is simply insulting to my intelligence. How many ex-boyfriends does she possibly has? “Moonlight” had maintained consistently storytelling that were intriguing and captivating. Each episode offered romance, action, suspense and humor. The cast was perfect.
By canceling a fan-favored show like “Moonlight”, CBS really blew it. I, for one, am going to watch other shows on another network or on cable on Friday nights.
So true, I have two sisters in college and they both tell me that their whole dorm watches Moonlight every Friday, unless something big is going on and then they DVR it and watch it on Saturday. I want to know who these Nielsen families are. I have never known anyone who is one and I think that something is off here ratings wise.

Not only no but “HELL NO”. I am 43, right in that demographic. I will not be tuning in to any of CBS new shows. I will watch my old favorites as long as I am allowed. The just killed another of my favorites so that makes three total less shows I will be watching. CBS is clueless.

As a professional woman who falls into this particular time slot, I can tell you that I have no desire to watch a female-based show like this one – especially one that gives the message that a woman must find a husband to be happy in life.
Moonlight was an edgy show that incorporated so many facets of drama – from romance to action. I know what I will NOT be watching this fall.

Moonlight has a 8 million plus strong fan base, that obviously likes to see women portrayed as independent, intelligent and empowered individuals, not like desperate, husband seeking and shallow twits as the woman on the Ex-List seems to be, in the promo. I would want my daughters to have a modern, positive and self-reliant woman as their role model (as portrayed by Beth Turner in Moonlight) rather than the drivel the new show seems to be sending. Moonlight is a far better show by a long shot.

Bill, one problem I see with the Nielsen system is that they have no way to deal with people who view away from home – such as people who live on campus at college. And since the main portion of the TV season occurs during the school year you are missing a major segment of that population. And so the sample is not representative of the population and the results are invalid.
It would also be interesting to see what the standard errors for these estimates are. I would bet fairly large.
Moonlight was the best show I have ever seen, & I will never watch CBS for the way they treated the show & the viewers. I am confident that another network will pick up Moonlight, and I will follow it there & stay there with it.
I am not a big TV watcher-saw 1st Moonlight by accident-watched all the season had to offer-I absolutely loved the story lines-the actors-the sets-everything about it. I had never heard of any of the actors-but have fallen in love with all of them-I will not be watching CBS-Everyone has laughed at me because I am so pissed about this-Usually I could care less about something like this-but I am very sad to loose this show and these people.
The promo is boring and annoying to and hundreds of people who love Moonlight. That is not however a meaningful indicator however in gauging how well Ex-List will do. As is the case with many shows (not just on CBS on Friday nights) “who the devil” was watching included a lot of people over 54 (almost half of the Moonlight viewership, in some instances).
People that I know who never watched Moonlight saw the preview clip of Ex List and are not interested in seeing Ex List at all. With all of the complaints against this new show, can it be possible that CBS will not show Ex List or that Ex list will last maybe few episodes?
If CBS is lucky, the Ex-List may last a month! It looks like a sure loser!
I thought that in addition to usually winning its timeslot overall that Moonlight also won in the 18-49 demographic as well.? Reading another one of TV by the Numbers articles, it sounds like the 18-49 crowd was at Univision on Friday nights.
Just the ones watching ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and the CW.
On a typical Friday night at any given time seems like roughly 75% of the 18-49 population who were watching TV were not watching TV on those networks.
I hate Ex-List already – no CBS on my TV without Moonlight. EVER.

I wanted so much to see what was next for Mick and Beth could they overcome the insurmountable obstacles that exist between the vampire and mortal worlds I would also have liked to see more of Beth’s relationship with Josef their bantering was priceless and I think they have been friends for quite sometime I would love to have seen that develop. Moonlight was the first show of the 2007/2008 television season that I did not completely ignore and I am glad I did not these characters will stay with me for many years to come.
I hope it finds anew home with SCI-Fi or USA Network if that happens I am only sorry I will not get to see the expression on Ms. Tasslers face.

I was shocked when I found out that moonlight was not picked up for another season, we here in the UK laugh at you americans and scratch our heads at the people who have the power over decions that is made, I could understand if the show had bad figures but for a first season 8-9 million followers is an amazing fan base and right marketing could have been HUGE….. Oh well good luck people who are fighting to get moonlight a new home but not looking good *sigh*
gazzy3d, you mentioned that you are from the UK. Do you think there is any chance that BBC might pick Moonlight up? I say this because I watch or DVR Robin Hood on Saturday. I used to DVR Moonlight on Friday. They are both action, fantasy, romance, good vs. evil somewhat similar although not completely.

It blows my mind that CBS has left us high and dry like they are doing. Why would I want to take a chance with any other shows on CBS? From what I can see, just about every one agrees with you except Holly and to some extent Robert and Bill. The latter two are being objective, I believe. Holly, on the other hand, is being singular in the opinion she is expressing.
The ExList premise seems sort of clever and sort of lame. Of course, lame fits with Ghost Whisperer. For this, CBS cancelled an exciting, romantic mystery with strong, interesting characters. Vampires seem more heartening than this other vapid fare.

You don't have to be an expert TV executive to understand that there's no way you can win Moonlight's audience back, with more than 90% of female viewers, airing a Tv show that does not give us the sexiest , hottest actor nowadays. Alex O'Loughlin was the main rating factor , if numbers weren't high enough or not, I don't know, but I do know that tons of women watched the show because of this gorgeous man.

Moonlight won a “People’s Choice” Award. Could it not be more clearer to CBS that the PEOPLE liked Moonlight? Who is making the decisions at CBS? Something works and the people like it so you cancel it? Yeah, makes sense to me! Must have been a man making that dumb decision.
CBS SCHMEE BEE ESSS. Who cares?? Not me anymore. They finally found the right formula for a show that people can really sink their teeth into (no punn intended)gorgeous characters (both m/f), romance, action, suspense and fantasy and they just kicked it to the curb like some rabid dog. Well pooh pooh on you CBS, this is one household of MANY MANY MANY that you will NEVER be invited into again.
PLEASE BRING BACK OUR BELOVED MOONLIGHT!!!

i am so happy moonlight fans are remaining adamant. i am angrier about it’s cancellation with each passing day. moonlight was a great show with a solid fan base of 8 million LOYAL viewers, quite a feat on a friday night. it won the people’s choice award, and we were lead to believe it WOULD be renewed and we were lied to. to replace a fantastic show like moonlight with twaddle like the ex list is a slap in the face and a complete insult. it’s kind of like replacing steak with bologna and telling you it’s just as good. NO, it isn’t. i will forever boycott the time slot that belongs to moonlight. cbs and nina tassler need to grow a brain.
I cannot figure out why CBS cancelled Moonlight. It was one of the best shows on TV. I will not watch the Ex-List, not because CBS put it on instead of Moonlight but because it is one of the most stupid shows on. I have not found anyone who disliked Moonlight. Where are you getting your info on who watches what? I guess from someone who doesn’t have a clue as to what the rest of the world is watching.
So, The Ex List premiered and it….BOMBED! It got an average of about 6.5 million viewers, about two million less than Moonlight’s premiere last year. I guess ticking off the Moonlight fans and putting on a wasteless piece of crap show like The Ex List didn’t do CBS any favors.
What they should do, is swallow their pride, air the rest of The Ex List episodes that have been filmed, and then bring back Moonlight mid-season. Alex O’Loughlin is under contract with them.
Or if that’s too much for them. Then at least bring back a tv movie for Moonlight (or 2), so the story line can play out as it should.
Besides, Moonlight did pretty well last year considering CBS gave it no advertising. The fans did that for them. Plus, this year we’re seeing the rise in popularity of vampires. With True Blood and the Twilight movie coming out, they could have easily advertised to those fans. I bet there are a lot of people who are huge fans of Twilight but have never even heard of Moonlight. Moonlight could have really been a big hit for them this year. All it needed was a little more advertising. And what they should have done is focused on the forbidden love story (like Twilight) rather than try to advertise it as a procedural. Because Moonlight is about the characters, not the crime of the week Mick has to solve. It’s not CSI: Vampire. It’s Moonlight.
CBS failed Moonlight and its fans by 1) not advertising it enough 2) not advertising it properly and 3) canceling it before its time
CBS never wanted Moonlight to succeed.
Well anyway, CBS failed and apparently so has The Ex List.
My husband and I were devoted fans of Moonlight! It was the best reason to stay home on Friday nights. CBS has really disappointed us. What were you thinking??
