Nielsen Ratings Sunday, June 29: CBS Tops Viewers, NBC the Demo

Posted on 30 June 2008 by Bill Gorman

Scoreboard CBS NBC ABC FOX CW
Total Viewers (million) 7.74 6.49 4.84 4.15 0.91
Rating/Share: Adults 18-49 1.4/4 1.9/6 1.6/5 1.5/5 0.3/1

CBS won the viewership race on an unsurprisingly slow Sunday night, primarily with the viewer strength of 60 Minutes [tops for the night at 9.3 million] and Million Dollar Password, while finishing fourth in the demo. NBC took the demo largely on the demo power of a 2 hour Dateline [#1 for the night with a 2.2 rating / 6 share for adults 18-49], which Berman has called “overused” in the summer, but looks to me like a pretty wise investment of summer $/demo rating. ABC reruns and Fox’s Jurassic Park movie finished well back in viewers but still beat CBS in the demo. Of course, no one watched the CW.

The Olympic trials sure don't look strong. I wonder how this will factor into a heavily tape-delayed games in China.

  2. Bill Gorman says:

Daniel, I thought so as well, looking at some previous nights. Other commenters think that Olympic action doesn't get interesting till its US vs. them. Sadly, we have no historical data on the trials to compare.
