Nielsen Ratings Wednesday, July 2: Dance Stampede

Posted on 03 July 2008 by Bill Gorman

Scoreboard FOX CBS NBC ABC CW
Total Viewers (million) 8.65 8.28 5.37 4.47 1.03
Rating/Share: Adults 18-49 3.2/10 1.7/5 2.0/6 1.5/5 0.4/1

Fox and So You Think You Can Dance? grabbed Wednesday night with a narrow win in viewers [8.65 million vs. 8.28 for CBS] and a big win in the adults 18-49 demo [3.2 rating / 10 share vs. 2.0/6 for NBC]. Dance marginally improved on its performance from last week, perhaps because it didn’t have to face a new Deal or No Deal from 8-9.

And while I desperately wanted to write a post headline of either “Baby Boom” or “Baby Bust”, the fact that the second outing of NBC’s Baby Borrowers did pretty well, losing a bit over a million viewers but only 0.1 demo rating point from last week, meant that the data really didn’t support either headline. NBC is likely quite pleased with the results so far. And at 10, Berman calls Celebrity Circus “inane”, but my guess is that NBC is happy even with its declining 1.9 rating in the demo. At NBC, beggars can’t be choosers.

Wrapping up, CBS reruns delivered the viewers but were crushed in the demo, ABC reruns could do neither and finished fourth in both, and, of course, the CW was unwatched.

  1. Daniel C. says:

Bill, I respectfully disagree about Celebrity Circus. A tie for this first-run vs. the other nets' repeats is a very costly sister-kiss. Office or L&O reruns might have garnered similar numbers with much less outlay.

  2. Holly says:

If Celebrity Circus were on CBS or ABC, I would agree with Daniel, but NBC has been coming in 4th all season. They can't be too upset about getting 1.9 in the demo for this during summer. A 1.9 would put it in the top 10 for NBC during the regular season.

  3. Bill Gorman says:

Daniel, Holly, I agree it's hard to be sure of NBC's happiness level, because we don't know the costs involved, but NBC got over a 1.9 in the demo from only 6 shows last week and none were repeats.
