From Ft. Wayne Journal Gazette (well, it's what I found first):

"More homes were tuned in to Monday night’s Home Run Derby than have ever watched the event. The contest on ESPN was seen by nearly 6.2 million households, breaking the record of more than 5.7 million set in 1999, the network said Tuesday.

The 6.4 rating was up 25 percent from last year’s 5.1. It was the most-viewed non-NFL program on ESPN since the Florida State-Miami football game Sept. 5, 2006."

The real problem with daily ratings is the networks have become so insignificant that they no longer represent America's viewing habits.

Hispanics in the country LEGALLY are the fastest growing demographic in the country. While the majority speak English "very well", it make sense that they would still want to watch TV or read books in their native language (I know I prefer to read in English even though I know other languages).

I really don't see any reason why Spanish-language channels should be banned from being regular broadcast (i.e. "free) networks. Unless I'm mistaken, they are independent businesses who get their financing through investors and ads, not through the government. I am not aware of any laws or regulations that could require that any and all non-english programming should be cable only.

As for the programming, how are these telenovelas really different from the English daytime soaps or primetime soaps like Grey's Anatomy? And if English channels are airing crap like Moment of Truth and 2 1/2 Men, do we really have any basis to complain that the Spanish-language programming isn't more "cultural"?

I DON´T THINK THE SPANISH-LANGUAGE CHANNELS SHOULD BE CONSIDERED AS NETWORKS, or including them in the CHARTS. That doesn´t represent what AMERICA is watching. The People who watch those networks aren´t americans. (MOST OF THEM ARE IMMIGRANTS WHO DON`T SPEAK ENGLISH) I THINK THAT ITS ILEGAL TO HAVE "FREE" CHANNELS IN SPANISH. It could be on CABLE, airing more cultural programming, not those ridiculous soap operas.

Not to deflect from your original post, but I was hoping to find some news on how both The Closer and Saving Grace did last night on TNT. Got any info?
