I wonder if the high income viewers will save the show, even if on the face of it the ratings stink. That is why CNBC day time and golf make all their money. (CNBC's viewers are, on average, the richest on TV). Sometimes its not about how many are watching, but who is watching

I know nobody wants to hear it but iTunes downloads are never really significant so far, Unbox even less significant. While in the aggregate there is a whole lot of downloading going on via these services, for individual shows it doesn't amount to many viewers. It doesn't take many downloads to put you into the top 10 (way less than 10,000, it seems) and probably fewer during the summer for summer fare. Until you start seeing press releases about how 25% of a shows viewing is coming from iTunes, it's pretty irrelevant to any ratings discussion.

in the case of Mad Men other than this site being a site that's mostly about ratings I wouldn't obsess over Mad Men's ratings. It's a virtual certainty it will get a third season.

No idea what the numbers are like on iTunes, but seasons 1 & 2 are currently number 2&3 respectively on the "Top Seasons" list. Also, this episode is currently topping the TV chart with last week's premiere ranked 9th. I checked Amazon, and the show is also ranked 6th on the Unbox chart currently.

Hulu would be another good option for AMC to get more actual exposure for the episodes.

Awesome episode, no matter how many people did (or didn't) watch it.
