While I don't want to diminish Univision's achievement because they were competitive in the regular season, I think their win here has as much to do with the broadcast nets failure to program the summer as it does Univision's shows. The best comparison is that they program primetime year-round with new programming like the broadcast networks do with the daytime daypart and soap operas.
