There can be no doubt that the peacocks are beyond pleased so far. It would be one thing if it was just the primetime ratings for the opening ceremonies that did well and then poof — everyone went away. But so far, that’s not happening. NBC averaged 32.64 million and a 11.1/30 share completely destroying everything else that was on the air in primetime last night.
Better news still for NBC, the 18-34 demographic is watching — last night’s primetime viewing averaged 9.4/29 (ratings/share) among 18-34 year olds. The Olympics were being viewed in almost 19% of the households in the US, and if people were home and watching TV there was nearly a one in three chance they were watching the olympics.
Which is to say, as great as these ratings are — and clearly it’s the biggest game in town — most people aren’t watching it, even when they are watching television (though the opening ceremonies did have nearly a 50% share).
Big Brother fans are loyal, it didn’t take a huge hit in total viewers really. It was the third most-watched program of the evening behind the Olympics and 60 Minutes. FOX had a rerun of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles at 9pm, we’re sure it will do better in the fall..,

Do you have cable ratings for Friday, Sat and Sun?
Big Brothers fans loyal?
Tuesday: 2.5
Thursday: 1.9
Sunday: 1.5
OUCH!
Mabirdy,
No, the Womens Gymnastics was taped for USA Primtime broadcast. The Announcers said a few times that it was Sunday Afternoon (China Time), or close to 18 hours before the primetime window.
When NBC is live, you will see the LIVE graphic next to the NBC logo in the upper right of the screen.
i hope TSCC doesnt get those numbers in the fall
Thanks, TVa.
Mabirdy/TVa (and everyone else), there apparently are some issues with how NBC uses the LIVE tage on the west coast. See this post from James Hibberd for more info: http://www.thrfeed.com/2008/08/nbc-fake-olympi….
I am so excited for Terminator to be back this fall!
I hope that people who are tired of the olympics will get to catch up this week and get into it!
TSCC will still beat the CBS 8:00 Monday night comedies this fall. Prison Break will be axed in May. So will 24.
