My point was that she exhibits human traits around people who know that she isn't human. We were told that she doesn't feel emotion - at least, not at this point - and only pretends to when she's around strangers. If she doesn't experience pain or pleasure, why would she scowl or seem uncomfortable while fighting a terminator? Why would she smirk or have a look of concern on her face when no one else - including the Connors - is around to notice. She may sometimes do things that only an emotionless being would, but some of her other behavior is not......robotic?......enough for me to suspend disbelief. Maybe the writers are screwing with us and it will turn out that Cameron has always been capable of experiencing emotion on some level. If not, I'd say they've been very inconsistent in how they've presented their newest cyborg model. Her loss of social skills by episode 2 is proof of that. Again, I know that most people love Summer's performance thus far. As someone who is accustomed to seeing terminators portrayed as true machines, however, it tends to take me out of the story when one of them always seems too human. Had we seen a stark contrast between her terminator side and her human side, it would have been easier for this viewer to suspend disbelief. If the plan is to have Cameron evolve to where she can truly feel things, I think the writers should have waited until this season to begin showing signs of that. That's just my opinion.

@cylon: Actually, it makes more sense that she will know better how to behave around the people she lives with and knows, don't you think? Especially around John, it's very clear she's more comfortable around him. And what does it matter around who she is when she exhibits human traits? It's all part of a learning process.

Besides, there were no emotions involved where she simply leaves the Shipkovs to get killed, right after she promised to help them. She's becoming more human and that scene served the purpose to show us that she's now quite there yet.

Actually, it's Ms. Cylon. I've already explained why I feel the way I do about Summer's performance, so I won't bother going over it again. I know that I'm in the minority when it comes to this subject, but I'm entitled to my opinion. Maybe it doesn't bother you that Cameron sometimes scowls or winces when she fights, that she occasionally looks and sounds confused when asking the Connors a question, or that she smirks, looks surprised, and even seems possessive at times. If we only saw those things when she was around people who thought she was human, that would be one thing. When she exhibits that kind of behavior in private or around the Connors, however, it makes it difficult for me to buy into the character. I won't annoy anybody by posting about this again.

Yes, I did notice a difference in Cameron's behavior after the pilot episode. That inexplicable change is part of the problem. If she was still able to imitate a human teenager as well as she did in New Mexico, then her robotic behavior would seem much more believable. Her facial expressions and line delivery when she is with the Connors is too human, and her behavior around strangers is often bizarre and unsettling. This doesn't make sense. Bottom line: If Summer behaved more like a machine when her character wasn't attempting to act human, she would be much more believable in this role.

Hey cylon, if you can't see the difference beyond episode 1 in Cameron's behaviour you gotta be blind. That coming from someone who names him/herself a cylon, now with them you can't see the difference. I don't think you're getting the point while watching TSCC

I wasn't bashing Summer when I criticized her portrayal of John Connor's protector. If she was more wooden and cold when she was in robot mode, I'd have a much easier time suspending disbelief. There doesn't seem to be a great deal of difference between her human act and her true nature. Consequently, I have trouble accepting her as a cyborg who is gradually learning how to successfully blend in with society.

What's up with all this Summer bashing? She's the best actress I've seen in Hollywood in a long time. She can act with the best of them and she's the best I've seen with the physical stuff.

@Robert: I'm surprised that you of all people don't know that Firefly's low ratings had nothing to do with the shows appeal, but everything to do with the absolutely terrible way the incompetents at Fox treated the show (on a good note, these incompetents are not at Fox anymore and it shows):

1.) It didn't get much promotion
2.) Why start with the pilot that introduces the world and explains who the characters are? No, Fox started with the second episode.
3.) They aired the episodes out of order.
4.) The show was preempted many times by baseball, so even those who wanted to watch couldn't find it.
6.) The Friday timeslot didn't help either.
6.) Then when they already canceled it, they show the Pilot. Upon seeing it, a lot of people get hooked... but it's already too late.

Sorry for this little rant, but it has to be said. Firefly was never given a chance to succeed.

TVa, I thought Firefly was OK, but didn't love it. I can see the appeal for the Dungeons and Dragons, World of Warcraft and Maker Faire loving crowd, but if you're not in that limited subset of humanity, it's probably not for you. I'm not surprised by the ratings there at all.

I enjoy Terminator: TSCC and it surprises me given that we (sort of) know what happens after the time we're watching. I think they did a great job with casting all the way around. Lena H. is outstanding (and she *is* the lead character), but I do think Summer Glau has done a fabulous job as Cameron for reasons that have already been articulated in this comment thread.

I saw an episode of Firefly and thought it was pretty horrible. Summers acting is OK/average. Nothing special.

I have to agree with cylon that Lena Headey IS the best thing about the series.

Almost half of the demo is very impressive in this day and age. By comparison in the overnight numbers for the American Idol finale, AI had a 11.0/29, capturing "only" 29% of the 18-49 audience. If I remember right, the Super Bowl averaged a 35/66 (rating/share) among 18-49 year olds but to get numbers like that for the Olympics, on an ongoing basis, especially late at night in the summer for gymnastics...wow.

Thanks very much for the info, Scotty.

Almost half of the demo is very impressive in this day and age. By comparison in the overnight numbers for the American Idol finale, AI had a 11.0/29, capturing “only” 29% of the 18-49 audience. If I remember right, the Super Bowl averaged a 35/66 (rating/share) among 18-49 year olds but to get numbers like that for the Olympics, on an ongoing basis, especially late at night in the summer for gymnastics…wow.

Thanks very much for the info, Scotty.

I usually get these ratings from the radio station I listen to in the morning as they announce the ratings past 11pm.

the demo was also huge a 17.2/47 that means at least half of the nation in the 18-49 category was watching the gymnastics at the time.
