Nielsen Ratings Thursday, August 21: Olympics and Flashpoint

Posted on 22 August 2008 by Robert Seidman

Scoreboard NBC CBS FOX Uni ABC CW
Total Viewers (million) 22.14 6.88 4.37 3.85 3.18 1.56
Rating/Share: Adults 18-49 7.2/21 1.9/6 1.5/5 1.6/5 1.1/ 0.5/2

NBC’s Olympic dominance continued even though not surprisingly the numbers are starting to tail off. But averaging 22.14 million total viewers and a 7.2/21 (rating/share) among 18-49 year olds during primetime in the fourteenth day of coverage is not too shabby.

CBS came in second with the lineup of Big Brother (loyal fans, and the only thing besides the Olympics to get more than a 2.0 rating among 18-49 year olds) a CSI rerun and Flashpoint. Although Flashpoint was just under a 2.0 rating among 18-49 year olds, it’s ability to hold its viewer base (and actually increase viewers out of the CSI lead-in) is impressive. Though there are lots of ways to slice the numbers, there’s no slicing where I’d imagine CBS is not happy with these results, especially up against the strongest hour of Olympic coverage.

  1. TVaholic says:

These numbers by CBS are close to pre-Olympics levels.
At minimum, Flashpoint should get a 2nd summer renewal, if not a possible midseason order.

  2. wopa says:

Wipeout repeats is getting 2.0 against repeats. Not only BB :)

  3. But Wipeout (repeat or otherwise) wasn't on the night in question, and Big Brother was.

  4. Al says:

Amy Johnsons's character is not believable.Either re profile her or find a new actor who actually resembles a woman copp
