Update 1/14/09: CBS has confirmed that Swingtown is cancelled. Click here for more information.
While it certainly does not appear likely that CBS will renew the ratings-plagued Swingtown, Broadcasting and Cable is reporting that CBS Paramount (the production company, not the network) is shopping the show to cable networks.
Clearly the CBS network wasn’t happy with the ratings, and moving it to Friday nights, where it’s ratings have languished even further seemed to indicate CBS didn’t have high hopes for the show. Additionally, CBS entertainment president Nina Tassler is on record about being disappointed in the show’s ratings.
CBS Paramount is additionally, according to the B & C story has also contacted DirecTV.
I know there are a lot of fans of the show, but it never took off and actually shed viewers from earlier episodes where it performed very well. It’s unfair really to compare Swingtown to to Jericho or Moonlght, because Swingtown aired in the summer, but it seems unlikely to me that a cable network will pick up the show or that CBS would do any kind of partnership with DirecTV as has happened with NBC and Friday Night Lights.
It seems like the CBS owned Showtime would make the most sense if there is interest in picking the show up, and that would allow it to be more true to its subject matter creatively as well. But if CBS wanted to move the show to Showtime, why not just do it? Announcing that you’re shopping the show to multiple outlets seems to (but does not necessarily) indicate the Showtime route is at best perceived as a last resort.

I think that it is irresponsible for CBS to offer such a show that advocates the kind of behavior that caused the STD epidemic that still haunts America today. Syphillis & Gonorrhea are terrible diseases with horrible symptoms that can lead to death. After Penicillin came into the public awareness, people thought they could go back to acting like animals, until Penicillin resistant strains raised their ugly heads, and every other anti-biotic has strains that resist it as well.
Also during this time, Herpes became a huge problem: Herpes that is still uncurable, though controllable, and can be passed from partner to partner even if one does not have symptoms. Another disease that started spreading during this era was HPV, although the medical profession was not aware of it until the epidemic of cervical cancer it causes.
And worst of all is the AIDS epidemic, which is still spreading because people refuse to stop sleeping around. It was thought that if enough money was spent in AIDS research, the epidemic could be controlled. The only thing that temporarily slowed down this epidemic was the gay community, who started behaving more responsibly, but as new young men join their ranks, and rebell against the constraints, the disease is spreading again. It has never gone away in the intravenious drug community.
In addition to all of this, did you know that you can't make hot tubs hot enough to kill bacteria or viruses? The hottest people can tolerate is around 105 degrees, and many can't stand this heat for long, yet the tub would have to be MUCH hotter to kill STDs, so hot that it would also kill the humans relaxing in there.
So you see why I am mystified that CBS's lawyers would permit them to show this series, considering all the young people who might try this out, get diseased, and sue the network for putting this idea in their heads.
I really can't see it happening. The ratings are too low and the costs too high for any standard cable network to consider. HBO already has a 70s-themed pilot in the works. Showtime obviously doesn't want it or CBS wouldn't be shopping it around. I think CBS is just putting on a show so that when they cancel it, they can tell the remaining fans that they tried.
BOOOOO!!! It can be predictable and a little dumb at times, but I still totally got into this show!
I really enjoy the show, despite the fact it doesn't live up to its subject matter because of CBS. It should have aired on Showtime to begin with.
And to the first poster – I suggest you relax, maybe catch a bible class or something. Or perhaps you should be reminded of the concept of free speech. You have a right to now watch the show, but not to force your decision or subjective sense of “morals” on the rest of us.
Dear Susan
Go ahead: knock yourself out, but don't come crying to me when you are infected with a long list of diseases that could have been avoided if you had acted like a civilized person. People like Susan illustrate my point about why AIDS has not gone away, and neither will a host of STDs. I was talking about science and responsibility, but Susan has no answer to those things, so she labels me as religious, a subject that I never mentioned, and then dismisses me using her straw man fallacy. But since it is unlikely that Susan knows what that means, I will just end by saying: “It is your funeral.” Literally.
angelcrest…i really have to agree with susan. relax. if people are not self educating themselves about sex or teens not given the sexual education they need; dont take it on yourself to bash a tv show.
on to cbs…i LOVED this show i totally got into in and want to know whats going to happen next! i find it awful that they are basing the ratings of this show on friday nights!! and DURING THE SUMMER!!! LOL if i didnt have a DVR i would NOT watch the show…it was just on at an awful time for its first run.
i am sure it would do great as a tuesday night or wednesday night show. even if its on late because people will still be at home during the week…and in the fall season people start winding down and staying in more often.
i think Swingtown should get another chance.
Paula
Swingtown is swirling the bowl, ratings wise, and if CBS brings anything back, it should be Moonlight, which still has millions of loyal fans worldwide. In the Fall, when all the people who voted for Moonlight in the People's Choice Awards discover that their favorite show was not renewed, CBS will be flooded with millions of emails and snail mails.
If you don't believe me, research for yourself online and compare the number of Moonlight posters to Swingtown posters.
Its just not possible that somebody would make a decision to pick up Swingtown and not Moonlight. Ignoring content, I refuse to get drawn into an STD arguement, Moonlight has a much larger and more cohesive fan base. Wasn't it Michael Hinman that reported that ML had a high stability index as compared to a lot of other shows. Add in the Peoples Choice Award, a higher coveted demo number, Alex O'Loughlins 'pats on the back' and all the positive chatter from various critics and well tell me again, using LOGIC why Swingtown is better?
“Or perhaps you should be reminded of the concept of free speech. You have a right to now watch the show, but not to force your decision or subjective sense of “morals” on the rest of us.”
I think you misunderstand the concept of free speech….I always find it amusing when someone argues “free speech” as a way of telling someone to shut-up. Free speech doesn't mean that no one can disagree with you or say what you are presenting is horrible. If CBS has a “right” to air Swingtown, then angelscrest has a “right” to say that they are irresponsible and wrong for doing it. By your apparent definition, a network could air a show portraying child abuse as a good thing and no one could complain about it because that would be “forcing their subjective sense of “morals” on the rest of us.”
EM- I agree with you, and also want to point out that CBS did not bother to promote Moonlight, probably because it had already decided to cancel it to make room for Swingtown.
After the People's Choice Awards, the only time CBS promoted Moonlight was the week it came back after the Actor's Strike, probably because that was the only time they had footage of Alex O'Loughlin walking on the beach with his shirt off.
On the other hand, they promoted Swingtown like crazy, in spite of the rock bottom ratings, even after they moved it to Friday nights, where it earned half the viewers as Moonlight in a similar time slot.
CBS also never tried Moonlight in a different timeslot, although they are now playing musical chairs with the new show, shopping for audiences for them. Had Moonlight played on a Wednesday or Thursday night, that would have been the test to see if a younger crowd would get into it. Young people are not home on Friday nights. When I was in my 20s, I was never home on Fridays. Even if I didn't have a date, or a party to go to, or plans with my girlfriends, I would drive down to Westwood Village and hang out all night. Moonlight had an audience of grownups and young families simply because that is the only audience that is home watching TV on Friday nights.
angelscrest,
Really, Moonlight wasn't cancel to make room for Swingtown, it was cancel because CBS think one of its new Fall show will do better than Moonlight. Swingtown was nothing more than a summer show that did performed well on its premiere but lost steam and viewers after a couple of episodes and was moved to Friday night. The low ratings will be the reason why it will be canceled and not because some people do disagree with its content.
As a Friday shown Moonlight had to perform better than Ghost Whisperer and it didn't. It was the weakest spot on CBS schedule on Friday night so CBS canceled it. And Please stop this non sense about Moonlight been on Friday nights and there are no one watching. Ghost Whispere and Numb3rs are also on Friday night and they are doing okay. The truth is that Moonlight ratings were too low and it got canceled. And no, winning a the people choice award mean nothing or the Itunes download numbers, or
the buzz on the internet. The only thing that matter is ratings, Nielsen ratings even if the system is getting old it is still the scale by which shows are judged.
CBS has more incentive to salvage Swingtown, since, as opposed to Moonlight, it is apparently produced by one of the CBS/Paramount subsidiary companies. They are also apparently giving Swingtown the handicap of being broadcast in an environment where they expect a smaller audience, and they seem to be doing that for Flashpoint, as well. Moonlight was expected to grow its audience at the end of last spring/very early summer when all the media outlets were talking about how even American Idol was losing viewers and marvelling, and speculating, as to why. Plus, CBS can never get it through their little corporate noggins that a show like Moonlight was always going to have less than a mainstream audience. To be a show about a vampire it actually did very well. CBS won Friday nights and the demo consistently all last season, with new episodes and reruns of all of the Friday night shows. Moonlight may have been the slowest guy on the Friday night CBS ratings team, but it still ran fast enough to help its team win. Unfortunately it wasn't good enough.
Swingtown and Moonlight do have a few things in common. They are both kind of niche shows, with Swingtown being a period piece since it is set in the past, even if it is only a thirty-year-old past. Both are victims of CBS not wanting to “go the distance,” if you will. CBS liked to describe itself as being “edgy,” but they would only go up to the edge, and expect to get points for just going there. Because they are broadcast tv they couldn't really get as racy as they wanted to try to portray themselves. People who want risque look at “Swingtown,” and then look at “Californication” and go, “Huh? You're kidding, right?'” And, although I think that Moonlight actually did get to be pretty violent, (thanks to the CSI's and their gore factor,) since ML did have, I think, 3 decapitations, it was not as sexually provocative as most soaps, even though part of that was that the storyline didn't progress there.
It is interesting to look at “facts.” Here is some info, from this very site, as compiled by Mr. Gorman, on the top 20 shows on CBS during the week of April 21 thru April 27 of this year. Out of the top “20,” Numb3rs was #10, GW was #12, Moonlight was #14.The only “freshmen” show that CBS did keep on its schedule from this past season, The Big Bang Theory, was #16.
The last time Moonlight was on was May 16th, On that same night GW had a demo of 2.0, and that was its season finale. Moonlight, while its demo was low by standards, it seems, usually stayed around 2.1, 2.3, through its first 12 new shows, and also won the demo ten out or those twelve times, but it fell below the 2.0 in its last episodes. Ghost Whisperer and Numb3rs demos also fell-not below 2.0 but they still fell, to be fair-but their survival wasn't on the line.
Here are Demo and viewers average excluding reruns for the last season:
Ghost Whisperer: 9.25 Millions viewers, 2.5 demo
Numb3rs: 9.76 Millions viewers, 2.4 demo
Moonlight: 7.85 Millions viewers, 2.2 demo
So I can only assumed(I don't work in the tv business so I'm not in the known) that CBS was looking for a spot on Friday night for a new show, they looked at the numbers and saw their weakeast show was Moonlight. So they canceled it to make room for a new show. Was Moonlight CBS weakeast show on their entire roster? I don't know, I haven't looked at the numbers for all shows but I know that Shark had better ratings than Moonlight and was canceled too probably because CBS think they can have better numbers with another show.
btw here is where I did find the viewers and demo numbers:
Ghost Whisperer :http://pifeedback.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/126108451/m/28210267/p/4
Numb3rs: http://pifeedback.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/908108...
Moonlight: http://pifeedback.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/810102...
Byeu,
You are right Moonlight and Swingtown are niche shows and as such they will not do as well as other shows. Maybe CBS decided that it doesn't want to have niche shows on their roster. Looking at the numbers we know that CBS does well with comedy and Cops shows, their top rated shows are Two and a Half Men, NCIS, CSI, Criminal Minds, CSI:Miami. Without a Trace, CSI:NY The fact that CBS will add more procedurals/cops shows on its roster next season and that CBS is developping more shows of this genre mean that CBS wants to stick with what is working. The fact that next season race to which of CBS, FOX and ABC will be the top rated broadcaster in viewers and demo will be closer than ever maybe why CBS is going back to what work best for them.
At the very least I gave points to CBS for having tried shows that would have been more at home on some cable channels.
RViewer
It is unlikely that the “Ex-List” will fare any better than Swingtown. It looks to me like a real turkey that no one will have any interest in watching. I think that TPTB at CBS are out of touch with the public because they live in an ivory tower echo chamber, where they sit in a circle and repeat each other's opinions back to them.
On the other hand, NBC looks like it is coming up with some gems for Friday night, starting with Crusoe at 8:00. I think that NBC has a better idea of what the Friday crowd wants, and I think that they are going to be king of the ratings hill again shortly.
Not only has CBS removed the best show it has from the air (Moonlight), but it has repeatedly insulted the audience, guaranteeing that they will not watch other CBS shows, no matter what they try in that timeslot.
If Moonlight was winning its timeslot every week, as it was, there was no reason to take it off the air, especially since it had a consistant, loyal audience in spite of the lack of promotion of the show.
Now that Nina Tassler's pet project is on the air, CBS is suddenly willing to advertise up the wazoo, and shuffle the new shows around, looking for an audience that might watch them.
I wonder why they thought it was a good idea to brush aside the Moonlight fans, who are so passionate. Didn't they think that we might have been watching other shows, and would stop doing so if offended, or are they so accustomed to trampling their underlings under their feet that they expected us to salute and exclaim “yes ma'am! May I have another?!”
It airred in the summer and couldn't even produce ratings against repeats. Thank god the ratings continue to tank. Hopefully CBS will dump this show like they did the other refuse Viva Laughlin. CBS's history of trying new things is failing. They should keep with the formula that makes them successful. Interjecting this laughable display of greed and hypocrisy, an insult to marriage, was a mistake. And I'm not talking morally, but creatively.
Hopefully their smart and dump it.
All it is is a TV show of infidelity, and that line of 'at least you know where your spouse is' is obviously a joke. By the looks of it even with their swinging ideas, infidelity is still the norm.
Sorry guys but your perfect world of communial swinging is a bust.
It is not worth CBS to renew it. The rtings are horrible and would not do well against new shows. Rid TV of this excess and keep the life style underground, or better dump it to cable where less then three million viewers can enjoy the destruction of the institution of marriage, or better yet send it over to HBO and they can tag it along with their other episodes of real sex.
Hi Dan!
I agree with you! I have decided that CBS could replace Swingtown with a reality show called Skanktown Roulette.
It would be similar to The Biggest Loser, except that the contestants would start out as losers, and spend the week trying to ride the baloney pony until foam comes out their ears.
At the end of each week, instead of a weigh-in, everyone would take a blood test to see who had acquired the largest number of STDs, and boot off the person with the fewest number. At the end of the series, the winner would be the one with the largest number over all, and the prize would be a years supply of anti-biotics.
I love the show and they should keep it for another season. We are not in 40-50 era we they were too much taboo.Wake up people we see trash on almost all the stations.Even in the kids cartoons.Swingtown is for adult and it's not that that bad.
We control our'e children what we want to watch. If you want to look Swingtown then change the channel. There is alot of violent in tv and sex so what should we band tv for life because it's not safe for children or us. Dont get stuck with taboo this is the 20's century.
I have a 20 year and 11 year and they are not stupid. It's up to you in how you raise your children. You are the maker of their destiny. Swingtown will not impact their life.
There are guns,drugs,sex,lust,etc…etc.. on all channels..By canceling the show is not going to stop crime, sex, drugs, or whatever.. I love the show and I support it …Yeah…………..
As Irma so eloquently says: ” If you dont want to look at Swingtown then just change the channel.”
Yes, Irma, that is exactly what we intend to do.
Especially the Moonlight viewers, who have had their passion ripped out from under them, then have had CBS lie about them and insult them.
My point is that Americans are “turning the channel” in droves because TV is so crappy. If enough of us “turn the channel,” CBS's ratings start to plummet. After a while, no one is watching. Seems simple to me, but the suits at CBS, instead of telling each other the truth about cr@ppy ratings, tell each other a bunch of CYA lies.
TV isn't that crappy, sure there are a lot of trash shows especially reality shows but like Irma said don't like it don't watch and I sure do not watch American Idol, Moment of Truth and many others. The only reason why I no longer watch Swingtown is not because of all the sex, it is because I lost interest.
BTW the ratings aren't that crappy, CSI gets aroung 18 to 20 Millions viewers, NCIS gets 16-17 Millions, Two and a Half Men 13-14 Millions, Criminal Minds 14-15 Millions, seems that the only shows who did get crappy ratings was Moonlight with its 7.85 Millions, geez CBS does better with Criminal Minds reruns than with Moonlight!
Beside, if all Moonlight fans plan to stay away from CBS then I guess you will not see Alex O’Loughlin new CBS project with the tv producer Mark Gordon, the one behind Grey Anatomy's and Criminal Minds…a shame because I am sure Mark Gordon will come up with something good for O’Loughlin.
It's clear all this anger is being generated because CBS seems willing to want to do something positive for Swingtown and has no interest in resurrecting Moonlight. Okay, I get that part. But once again, on a topic not remotely related to Moonlight, the Moonies leave their coffins to rant against a totally non-related TV show.
I'm very encouraged that CBS is looking for options rather than pulling the plug. I guess some people on the inside do recognize quality when they see it. I've listened to a recent Nina Tassler interview where she says CBS does not take summer ratings very seriously and has not made up its mind 'and that's the truth' about Swingtown. I think they know it could benefit from a re-launch on a network better suited for it, given its content, and I'm pleased about that. I also don't think they've given up on the idea of renewing it as a mid-season replacement or summer show again next year. There is a lot of numbers expertise on this site, and frankly I'm surprised you all are making so much of summer ratings when this show had to compete against the most watched Olympics ever and the mere fact that, hey, it's summer! I think you are missing the whole picture.
If TV isn't cr@ppy, then why are the networks whining about their ratings?
The large number of people who watched the Olympics shows just how many people are willing to watch TV if it wasn't so cr@ppy.
I suggest that the reason why this summer's Olympics were watched so much is because there was nothing else on worth watching.
xerxes,
Flahspoint, Big Brother, and all the summer repeats had the same factors, yet Swingtown is the only one to loose MORE THAN HALF its audience (and that was before the Olympics). Don’t blame the Friday spot either, because it dropped 3.5 million of those viewers before the move. Yes, numbers will be lower in the summer, but 4 million viewers and 1.2 in the demo is just plain horrible.
Robert, There’s not a place for me to check “verify” with the new setup…
Xerxes,
Flashpoint, Big Brother, Fear Itself, Wipeout, etc. all aired during the summer, yet not one of them lost MORE THAN HALF its viewers like Swingtown did (before the Olympics, and mostly before the move to Friday). Yes, expectations are lower in the summer. If it had maintained 6-7 million viewers and 1.9 in the demo, I would be saying it deserves renewal (even though that would mean cancellation in the regular season). 4 million viewers and a 1.2, however, do not deserve a second season, even for Fridays in the summer. When you routinely get lower demo numbers than almost all the repeats even when you have a solid lead-in (like it did even on Thursday), there's a serious problem, and it's not the scheduling.
Enough of the Moonlight B.S. Who cares about your ridiculous show. Its never coming back. You can't compare the 2 just because they were on the same network. They weren't even close to each other in plot or genre. You have some serious mental problems if you'd rather watch some cheesy show about vampires (how old are you?) then watch a show about real relationships. This show is not just about sex… there are plenty other situations going on. I loooove this show. I think the cast is phenomonal and works well together. Yeah, it can be cheesy and airy sometimes but to say it brings down the institution of marriage? Come on. I AM married and this is ine of the only shows my husband and I have gotten into. Its on on a terrible night though. We usually just watch it On Demand. Look, I'm sorry your show got cancelled. Unfortunately, my favorite show of the summer is getting cancelled too. Stop with the Moonlight posts though where it concerns Swingtown. Everytime I try to read something about Swingtown, the boards are overrun with Moonlight. Find something else to obsess about.
CBS' announced intentions concerning Swingtown seems to confirm the fact that their decisions concerning their programming is more subjective than they publicly admit. Comparing their treament of Swingtown to how they treated Moonlight is an obvious comparison. Swingtown's ratings, according to this site, have pretty well plummeted steadily each week since its premier. Moonlight, while its ratings were not stellar, had steady ratings and audience numbers through its spotty broadcast history last year. There wasn't a new show from January to April, but it didn't lose its audience, it remained remarkably constant. This has just been backed up, actually, by a Nielsen report on similar shows. Moonlight had a more stable audience than Lost or Heroes by almost ten percentage points. Yes, obviously they have bigger audiences, although Heroes did lose some last year. Moonlight had an 87.9% audience stability rate, Heroes had an 81.5%, Lost an 81.1%
If CBS had wanted to save Moonlight, they should have allowed the show to move to the CW, which they own, along with Moonlight's main production studio, Warner Bros. They could have partnered it up with Supernatural. If even half of Moonlight's fans tuned in the CW network it should have helped its ratings. Oh wait, there is that pesky demo again. Forget it if you have 7, 8 million pairs of eyeballs, and some full bank accounts. We don't want your money
If I had a comfy coffin to slip back into, I would, but vampires on Moonlight do not sleep in coffins.
There is a proven interest in vampires right now in entertainment industry, but CBS didn't have the patience to let this profit for them. Since CBS did finally promote the show some just before it came back on, it had started to get attention from the fantasy and horror communities and publications, which it needed and that would have probably got it some more viewers, but just as that attention and interest was starting to bloom, CBS canned the show.
Good luck to you Swingtown fans, however. Maybe some cable outlet will take the show and perhaps give it the character development that it probably needs, and they, of course, won't have the restraints that CBS had. .
Byeu,
Yes Swingtown ratings are going down but you forgot something important, expectations. Expectations for a summer show are lower than for a show on the fall line up. Despite being a summer show I still think that Swingtown will be canceled by CBS the move from Thursday to Friday and the show been shopped around isn't a good sign.
Also, many reasons can explain why Moonlight wasn't send to the CW, production cost, pay decreased for the cast. I read somewhere that Nina Tassler said that most of the letters she got from Moonlight fans where about the star of the show so if, and this is pure speculation on my part, Alex O’Loughlin didn't want to stay with the show if it was moved to CW then Tassler and CBS knew the show was done with.
Holly,
You make a lot of good points here, except the 'solid lead in' part. The CSI audience was a lousy lead in for Swingtown. CBS blew it on that. Also, CBS did practically nothing to promote the show prior to each episode. Then, they decide to move it to Friday, the Tuesday before the move. Then the Olympics start. BTW, a CBS insider on the main forum is now saying that CBS is including Swingtown promo clips in its fall preview package to affiliates. I think that sounds pretty positive. I like how you support your views with solid numbers. Thanks. Unlike many others here, I believe the show will be renewed in some manifestation, and the number crunchers are going to be totally befuddled by the decision. Call it intuition.
angelcrest,
Broadcaster will ALWAYS complain about low ratings. Just look at American Idol, still getting over 20 Millions viewers with demos that would make anyone in the TV industry kill for but FOX isn't happy with the numbers and is making some changes to the show.
As for the Olympics, the numbers where good as long as Micheal Phelps was on, since he left the numbers are down. Just look at last Saturday rating, numbers posted on this site 17.68 Millions with a demo of 5.4/17 compare to Tuesday July 12 viewers 38.97 Millions with demo of 14.6/36. Actually last Saturday numbers were not as good as American Idol finale numbers which got a 30.6 Millions, demo 11.0/29.
But you are right, the Olympics did have good ratings because summer is full of reruns and shows that would probably never make it on the Fall schedule.
I'm with NBC's own Dick Ebersol when it comes to summer Olympics success. Ebersol pegs it as an event that happens only once every four years. Ebersol also notes that high gas prices probably had more people staying at home and helped the ratings.
Short of the NFL deciding to air nationally televised games regularly on Friday and Saturday nights (and I don't doubt the TV networks will ask for this at some point), I see nothing in the way of any regular sports or entertainment programming having any shot at doing as well on Fridays or Saturdays as a once-every-four-year event.
I don't see much point in comparing what went on with the Olympics to what typically happens. Sure, TV is still huge medium if you can program it with something truly special. But “truly special” isn't easy, or it wouldn't be…truly special.
Friday and Saturday will remain difficult for all of the broadcast networks, and while better programming helps, it doesn't help as much as a once-every-four-year event.
As a fan of a recently cancelled CBS show, I can understand why the Swingtown fans are peeved. CBS' general treatment of viewers, especially those of a certain demo, is atrocious. Swingtown SHOULD have done very well for CBS as a summer show. Why didn't it? I can only guess and those guesses would have me labelled as one of the Moonlight thread jackers. I will offer that I think that it does matter to the numbers when several million people, who would normally watch a show, refuse to watch it. There have been many shows that look back on past decades that have been successful. A&E has Mad Men, an early sixties themed show, which has scored tons of Emmy nods and critical acclam. It is a success, so why not Swingtown? One of the reasons could be that CBS has a reputation for dumping shows that are “different” and outside of their comfort zone. They try to fix everything and change everything to their old tried and true formula. Basically, I think CBS just doesn't have it in them to do justice to a 70's themed show, complete with swapping, drug use, politics, and the social mores of the time. A cable network was the best way to go with Swingtown. But, as has been noted, one of the big cable players already has a 70's themed show in the works. I believe I read that it deals with a disco-era/Studio 54 theme. Fantasy themed shows (sci fi, vampire, etc), seem to be the hot item of the day. If a show of that genre (Yeah, I mean Moonlight), with a few million more regular viewers than Swingtown can't get a shot at a pickup, then I think Swingtown is history. If what I am reading from different critics about the new fall season is so, CBS is going to have enough issues with their programming schedule. They aren't going to have room to worry about Swingtown, even if it is Nina tassler's “pet project”.
Xerxes,
What lead-in would you prefer? CSI really was the best lead-in CBS had to offer.
Holly,
Yes, and that was a problem. When you have that many cop and reality shows, that doesn't leave you with many partnering options. IMHO, I think they could have packaged 'Swingtown' with maybe a show with a similar audience, maybe something like “The Ex-List” which is slated for the fall. If CBS has learned anything from this experience, it's that there is a taste out there for some quality drama if they can package it properly and are prepared to promote it aggressively on a weekly basis. This business of coming up with a 'new plan' every couple of weeks as demonstrated by the sudden move of Swingtown from Thursday to Friday isn't serving them particularly well. As a final note, I think Flashpoint is a good follow up to CSI and that's why it is doing well in that timeslot.
So you think the best move for CBS would have been to cancel or move a successful show to give one new show an unproven new show as a lead-in? Really? And aren't Swingtown supporters blaming the Friday spot for the horrid ratings? Yet, you think starting it out on a Friday would be ideal?
Given the Friday numbers last year, it probably wouldn't have gotten a much bigger premiere than it did during the summer, and, again, the problem isn't that people never found the show, it's that they abandoned it after the first couple of episodes.
It's a moot point anyway because it wasn't airing in the fall, it was airing in the summer. CBS gave it tons of promotion and the best lead-in they had to offer, and it had a great premiere. Then it bled viewers until it was squandering its lead-in and got moved (it wasn't a sudden change of plan, it was a way to avoid canceling it out-right and give another show the lead-in). Promotion did die down when they needed to promote the new shows, but after the first week or so, it got just as much promotion as anything else.
I don't understand what you mean here? CBS chose to run it in summer after the writer's strike blasted the whole programming landscape to heck. As I understand it, it was their intention to run it during the regular season somewhere. Are you again assuming, falsely, that somehow Swingtown was ever an impediment to Moonlight by the mere fact it was moved to Friday? It would appear that anything moved to Friday, except a reincarnation of Moonlight, is the constant underlying theme here. As far as promotion, don't know where you have been but there has been nothing but complaints that the show was NOT well promoted when it was on Thursday nights. Apparently that changed when it moved to Friday, which was an awful move because the demographic that watches Swingtown actually have dates on Friday night. Abandoning the show? How about, recorded it and watched it later or watched it on line more likely. I'm trying to have an adult conversation here. What are you trying to prove? I'm only suggesting in a hypothetical scenario that if Swingtown could be partnered with a program, IN THE EVENT SOMETHING ELSE IS CANCELLED, in a situation where the demographic is likely to stick around to watch a show like Swingtown it might have more success, that's all. Funny how viewers interested in relational drama might not be interested in decapitated bodies and gun battles when it aired after CSI. Odd, don't you think? Sheesh! Anyway, I'm mostly in favor of it moving to Showtime anyway because I'm tired of yahoos beating up on a show they don't watch or don't like, but feel compelled to post in a situation like this just because, and in most cases, just because it's not Moonlight.
My comments have absolutely nothing to do with Moonlight. The “successful show” I was talking about is Numb3rs, which will be airing after Ex-List, where you suggested they should have aired Swingtown.
Yes, supporters complain that there was no promotion, but that's BS, there was just as much if not more promotion for Swingtown than any other show.

I think that people should read what the Moonlight fans are saying over at Hey!Nielsen, rather than listen to the misinformation that Nina is giving out to CHA.
There are many more posts under the category of Moonlight as there are under Alex O'Loughlin, and most of the fans are saying that they want the entire package of Moonlight, unchanged. Most posters give the credit for the success of Moonlight to the outstanding and sophisticated writing staff, as well as the high production values, and the chemistry between all the characters. People especially love the romance between the main characters Mick and Beth (affectionately referred to as Mick/Beth), and many doubt that they can watch Alex if he is inserted into another CSI type show.
Certainly many of the women have crushes on Mick St. John, and many have stated that they will follow him to a new show, but most of the posters are waiting to see what show they put Alex in before they make a commitment. Personally, I am so into the relationship between Mick and Beth, I don't think I want to see Alex in a different role.
CBS has botched this and is issuing untruths about the fans to cover their backsides. I wonder if they realize how insulted the fans are by these press conferences, and how much business they lose each time one of these videos hit UTube.
I hope that someone tells Nina the old saying: If you are already in a hole, stop digging!
Hi Robert
Yes, all those people who watched the Olympics are staying home to save gas.
They would be doing so even if the Olympics were on or not, but they were attracted to the Olympics and not to most of the fare the networks are offering. The networks would be wise to take advantage of all these captive eyeballs hoping for entertainment, and make shows worth watching.
I have said before that shows like America's Got Talent do attract the eyeballs, and I suggest that the viewers are looking for something fresh and positive. Otherwise there is always the internet and DVDs.
Holly,
“The Ex-List” was just AN idea. Actually, it was probably a pretty dumb idea because it also is a new show. What I meant was something established that would have had a favorable lead-in demographic. CSI isn't it. For example, it would be a good match with shows like Nip/Tuck, The “L” Word, Six Feet Under, etc. Yes, I know they are all cable shows, that's why I'd like 'Swingtown' to go to cable and find a good, established match if possible. I apologize if I insulted you about the Moonlight thing. Was not my intention. Just was my frustration showing. Did CBS do 'Swingtown' any favors by casting it out on its own, hoping they'd catch an audience? No. Bottomline is that I believe that it is a good show that will find a home somewhere. Maybe CBS puts a successful formula together where it finds an audience, maybe they don't. I have no control over that. I guess you and I will have to disagree on the effort. I don't believe it was there from CBS and the negativity from the PTC and ADA didn't help either. And, yes, I'd agree that maybe it didn't turn enough people on to attract a big audience. I just know that for those it did reach, it has made a big impact on their lives, and many seem to be non-traditional CBS or even network viewers. That should mean something from a marketing perspective, but I'm no marketing genius either.
Deara RViewer,
I appreciate your reply. Actually, I did mention the lower summer expectations in first post on this thread. You are right. If CBS does truly consider the ratings the main deciding factor in whether or not they keep a show then Swingtown should, by that criteria, get cancelled. Networks cancel shows, yes, and probably do not try to salvage them at all. Then again, sometimes they do. So, its not all just the numbers on the show. That is one of the realy galling things. They state they totally go on the ratings, but their behavior indicates something totally different. It reminds me of what someone said about one of my former uncles, and that was he would cliimb a tree to tell you a lie when he could have stayed on the ground and told you the truth. That's the way I feel about networks, and CBS in particular. To be fair to them, anything they say or do, to a point, is going to hack off somebody. If they had been more honest, and admitted it was not only ratings, but creative differences about show direction, funding by their other partners, etc, I would have been disappointed but not as incensed as I have been with their unfortuante habit of talking out of both sides of the mouth concerning the matter.
Ms. Tassler and her comments about Moonlight and why they cancelled it have been a perfect example of this. I think she must have a hat that she reaches into and picks up a scrap of paper that has the excuse of the day written on it. First she said the ratings thing, then she said a second thing-which escapes me at the moment. She recently said the thing about the fans only watching the show because of Alex O'Loughlin which was particularly offensive because it belittled the show and/or Mr. O'Loughlin himselff, IMO, as well as the rest of the cast of the show.
I am sorry that we Moonlight fans have been overzealous and been an irritation to some. The truth of the matter is that Moonlight was actually the “vehicle,” if you will, that opened many people's eyes into just how little the networks really do care about their own audience, unless you are the demo that they want, and you show up on a nielsen meter. It's a two edged sword. They want an audience, but they don't want just any audience. If any other business did “business” that way, they'd be out of business. What would you do if you went to a restaurant, and somebody came out and looked you over, and told you that you weren't the kind of clientel that they were trying to attract, and wouldn't allow you to enter . Would you leave, and not go back? I imagine most would, if not report the place to the Better Business Bureau.
If Swingtown is salvaged and broadcast somewhere else, then its fans will be pleased. Unfortunately it probably won't be because CBS cares about whether you really like the show and applaud their vision and creatvity with the passion of a fan, but only because they think you are between 18 and 49 years of age, preferably with an income of at least $75,000 a year.
I sure hope they don't cancel Swingtown. Not because the story line or plot is all that great (lets face it, it isn't) but what I do enjoy is the music, the clothes, the old cars, etc. I can remember back when I used to have a car like that, or see something in the decor of the houses that I have a flashback of owning. The last episode, Laurie had on a pair of Dr. Scholl's wooden sandals! haha.. I hated those things, but were they all the rage. Strolling down memory lane, I love it. I miss the 70's, those where good times.
I never saw Moonlight, I'm not a big vampire fan, but I'm sorry your show got cancelled. As for Swingtown, let's just enjoy it while we can , before it too, ends up in the dumper. As for Angel, chill out sweetie, take an anti-biotic and let me tell you some of the good things about the 70's….
TK Just go to any major swapmeet and look for the Boomers selling off their old music collections, if that is the reason you are watching ST. Also, you can hear that stuff all day long on the “oldie-mouldy” stations.
Byeu- Thank you for your eloquent explanation for the feelings of the Moonlight fans.
I am sure the Swingtown fans feel picked on by us, but we are really outraged at Nina Tassler, who I suspect deliberately sabotaged Moonlight, by neglecting to promote it properly, to make room for Swingtown, which is her pet project.
Also, like you, I suspect that there was a political struggle over the creative direction of Moonlight. Most shows are forced by the networks into letting them control the scripts and add all kinds of politically correct content.
But Moonlight was so beautifully crafted by a team of stellar storytellers, that I am horrified at the thought of CBS tinkering around with it in order to insert their agendas. That is almost as intollerable as the thought of Moonlight never coming back.
And as far as Alex goes, I do like him in the role of Mick St. John, but what I love is the entire package, from the writing to the art direction, to the photography and lighting, to the editing, to the selection of music, to the flawless casting and finally, the acting. Mick is like a piece of an intricate puzzle, that when assembled creates a dazzling picture. Pull him out, and the puzzle is incomplete. Would that piece fit in another puzzle? I somehow doubt it, at least as far as I am concerned.
Angel, that's not the only reason I watch Swingtown. All you can say about this show is how it promotes sex (ok, it does, but lets not forget all the hundreds of other shows, commercials, magazine ads) that do the EXACT same thing, sometimes even worse.
Its a tv show for heavens sakes, and you act like its the end of the world, that this show might somehow corrupt (an already corrupt) society. All I am saying is stop acting like Chicken Little running around screaming about how if we watch this show a world of diseases will rain on our heads and we need to grab an anti-biotic.
Good grief, an intelligent person such as yourself must have something else better to worry about other than this tv show.
TK- Having lived through that era, I can tell you first hand that STDs did indeed seem to be raining from the heavens. You see, before it became fashionable to act like a bunch of skanks, there were only 2 major venereal diseases, and by the time I was born, they could be cured by penicillin.
During the '70s all kinds of new venereal diseases sprang up. At that time, we called them venereal diseases, until in the '80s when the PC police started insisting that we call them STDs, to take away the stigma. In my experience, removing the stigma from something makes people do it more.
In the early '80s, I roomed with a nurse that worked at the ICU at UCLA Medical Center. Being the closest teaching hospital to West Hollywood (a major gay community in the Los Angeles area), all of the first AIDS cases came to her ICU ward.
She used to come home and talk about the mysterious wasting disease that was apparantly eating these beautiful young men alive. At that time, no one knew what was causing this disease, or how it was spread, they only knew that it was incurable and ended in a painful, ugly death.
During the 1980s, there was a huge controversy over AIDS research, the gay community insisting that American taxpayers should pay for this very expensive research, and then they insisted that eveyone else should pay for the chemical coctail that the pharmaceutical companies came up with to keep the AIDS patients alive.
It is right that we should be compassionate for those people, but now that we know what kind of diseases are created and propagated by wild sexual behavior, there is no excuse for acting that way, and I for one can barely pay my taxes, and I will resent highly when irresponsible people come down with the next horrifying disease to come down the pipe and then expect me to pick up the tab.
If you are willing to pay for your own medical care after playing sexual roulette, then I don't care what you do. Really.
But it is my experience that the most irresponsible among us are the ones that whine the loudest for me to pay for the consequences of their irresponsibility.
Angelcrest, would you please stop? The diseases you fear are far more rampant now than in the 1970s, and any suggestion that swapping couples is a *leading cause* is folly. Please know, I'm in no way questioning your values here. But your logic seems quite flawed.
Can we try to stick to TELEVISION here please, and not morality? As others have suggested, there's pretty much no aspect of life that television doesn't pick up on and all shows focus on sex. But the way people behave is on people — not on television. Even the Bible has mankind acting like heathens thousands of years before television was invented.
Look it up.
There is some interesting debate on the whole 'Swingtown' ethics and morals. Angelscrest can post anything she wants and we can all either agree or disagree. The bottom line is that the first amendment provides equal coverage for everyone. I do not agree with Angelscrest only because it appears that (her) argument is based on some prehistoric religious right propoganda. Everyone in the civilized world knows that STDs are communicable and I cannot image a person on the planet that knows how to read the written word doesn't know how to prevent them. This has almost taken on the comical tyrade of vice-president Dan Quayle and 'Murphy Brown', the fictional character on television who chose to have a baby without including the father. Let's remember one thing: “Swingtown” is fiction. The characters are not real, it is not based in the here and now, nor is it answerable for the various social diseases that now infect millions worldwide.
The premise of the show is the exploration of sexual mores in the mid-1970's. As a gay man who has managed to survive the AIDS epidemic without contracting the deadly disease, I find Angelscrest a bit over the top. Being of an age where most of my peers were wiped out during the initial stages of this horrible disease many of us count ourselves lucky to be alive, let alone STD free some 30-yrs in to this underfunded and grossly misunderstood disease. Perhaps Angelscrest could better divert her apparent rage against social injustice and lax morals in to assisting communities that are emaciated by this hideous disease. Maybe she should run herself down to a hospice and volunteer, or join something along the lines of Project Angelfood and get out and see the actual impact of something that appears to have either missed her completely or impacted her very deeply on a personal level.
Now, as for the show, I only hope that CBS will wake up and realize that summer is not the time to debut a potential fall season show. The esthetics, the characters and the entire storyline are straight out of mid-70's, large metropolis America. Having lived through this time as a teenager I can attest to these goings on in my own neighborhood and in my own home (although never while I was in the house!). Not everyone played, but there was certainly a more lax attitude to sexuality. Sex in the new millenium is all about negotiation and verification vs. intimacy and desire. Allow some of us the luxury of losing ourselves for 42-minutes once a week in a simpler time when sex was about fun and not about wondering the next day if we had just signed our own death warrant.
Unfortunately, I think the series will never get the opportunity to fully explore the troubles associated with the lifestyle choices of the characters. There is a real opportunity to expose the sorrows that accompany an open marriage, as well as its freedoms. (My husband and I do not have, and have never entertained, an open marriage.) I think this show has the potential to expose the fragility of humans and their relationships, as it has already hinted on with Tom's indiscretion and the upcoming episode where Trina announces she is pregnant, but the audience of course has to question the baby's paternity. The affairs of the daytime soaps are probably much more twisted – at least everyone in this community is aware!! This show has potential to make people really think about their decisions and for young folks to relate their promiscuity to the time of the Swingers – things haven't necessarily changed; today's young people get married after they swing (or close to it. . . )
This is one of the conundrums of Swingtown. Yes, its telelvison, but this is a television show whose main theme of sexual exploration hit right at the heart of the moral values of the time, and is still relevant today. Irresponsible behavior, whether its playing musical beds, or blowing your entire bank account at the mall instead of paying your bills, has unpleasant consequences. Television sometimes plays up one side or the other, depending on what the show is, and what the creators are trying to convey. I haven't seen Swingtown, so I don't know whether the creators meant to totally ignore the downside of the behavior, or they were going to explore how the different characters came to a conclusion concerning the consequences, either postive or negative, through the story .
As far as the show itself, I think it is the network again trying to reach an audience that isn't there and is not interested in the subject matter, or decided that they just weren't interested in the show after viewing it. Perhaps if they had gone with promoting more of the drama aspects instead of the 'tittalating' visuals of people frolicking in hottubs and innuendos of “Menage a trois” trysts, it may have survived. Given CBS' restraints, where they couldn't do anytihing bunt infer certain things, they should have made the sensible decision to focus on the drama and moral dilemmas that are inherent in the subject matter. That CBS doesn't make the sensible decision is not surprise to me. Of course, we dont' know exactly that it hasn'tt officially yet, do we? I know there is the buzz, and that is what Mr. Seidman and Mr. Gorman think-and they are probably right. but CBS hasn't said it's cancelled for sure yet, though, has it?
Since I am one of 'those” rabid fans, and I can't post anyting without mentioning the show's name, here goes: Moonlight
I hope someone picks up the show as I know many people who will be disappointed if it is not pick up.
You know, when this show first aired, I told my husband that I thought Swingtown was a bit over the top. I, too, was just married in the early 70's and never knew or even heard of anyone in my area “swapping” marriage partners. I just assumed this was something that went on in California, limited to the rich or famous.
I have been totally blown away by the postings in this room as to how poplar partner swapping really was! I truly had no idea..
But, back to Swingtown, Trina is pregnant!? Get out! Humm…wonder where they are going with this story line?
I love the show and look forward to watching it, even though it was so quickly moved to Friday night.
As for the show promoting any kind of questionable sexual behavior ~ lets take a closer look at one of the best sitcoms out there “Two and a half Men”. What kind of message does Charlie send his viewers? Sex with anyone, anytime is fine. Yet we all still tune in every week to watch. I feel that the show was destined to criticism about its moral message because of its name. Had the show been called something else, like ” Bakerstown” the same people who have a moral issue with the show wouldn't even give it a thought.
With all the reality shows out there, this was a welcomed change. I will be sad to see it go.
I think you are a little too dramatic. Look around there's life besides your cancelled shows. Oh about STD's, LOL, surprise, people were getting them way before TV arrived. I strongly support Susan. Suppressed by suburbs people like angelcrest (or whatever the name) usually get STD's. And one more think, US is the most religious country in the “western world”, but PORN watching per capita is the highest in this country.
LOL angelcrest. Adults make CHOICES, and STD's are a result of those choices in some cases. Get off your high horse.
Wow, someone with the name “anglescrest” which has a clearly religious conotation likes a show such as a Moonlight? I mean c'mon, doesn't that show have an “evil” premise? Afer all, it is about the undead, a vampire. Stop spouting your twisted version of morals on the rest of us. If you want to be self righteous then go preach somewhere where people might listen. A TV show forum is not the place. If it weren't for the “free love” of the 70's then many, many of us wouldn't be here. Maybe the things they do on the show aren't “right or moral” in your opinion but it is pretty factual to the decade. I hope CBS doesn't cancel the show. I love it as I am sure many others do, too. It's a STUPID idea for a network to test run a TV show with such high potential for ratings in the summer when people are more than likely not home. Isn't this the reason we have a summer hiatus for TV? Either keep it on CBS or move it to cable, just don't cancel it entirely. Oh, and Angels? I think you can purchase “Highway to Heaven” or “Touched By an Angel” on DVD since that seems to be more your speed.
i love “swingtown”. i think it's a really good show and look forward to watching it every week. i hope showtime picks it up, i think it would do much better there. i never watch cbs b/c i think their shows just suck. out of every show they have the only 2 shows i watch on the network are “swingtown” and “how i met your mother”. in my opinion they have nothing else.
sent from: fav.or.it
I have watched every episode and I love it. I really hope it either gets picked up by someone else or continues. Even if they leave it on a night like Friday that's fine with me!!
I LOVE THIS SO!!!! I HOPE SOMEBODY PICKS IT UP!!!
Well the last comment should have said, I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! NO SO LOL
NO WAY!! I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! ITS THE BEST SHOW OF THE SUMMER. OF COURSE RATINGS WHERE DOWN THE OLYMPICS WERE ON — DONT THEY TAKE THAT IN TO ACCOUNT. I NEVER MISSED I SHOW AND COULDNT WAIT TO SEE WHAT HAPPEN NEXT. DONT LEAVE ME HANGING!!!
THIS IS MY FAVORITE SHOW. PLEASE DONT CANCEL. IF SHOWTIME PICKS IT UP I WILL ORDER SHOWTIME.
I love Swingtown and watch it faithfully every week as well. The characters are endearing and I love the whole 70’s vibe. I will be very unhappy if CBS cancels this show that has so much potential. I do hope cable such as HBO or Showtime picks it up. That would be the best case scenario. That would be even better then CBS renewing it because then the show could get really juicy!
you tell em Andi You sound hot wanna go to that new disco they have on the show ? iwas a kid during those times and loved seeing all of the interesting freaks coming in our house (and i mean that with the upmost respect ) what a blast so ANGLECRUST if you dont like what you see stick your head up your ass hahaha
You sound hot too & Yes, I do. Pick me up at 10. I have a lot of friends…. and a hottub!!!
Whee Hoo !! sucks to be ANGLECRUST cant wait ill bring the Puzzlerama! and the qualudes !
I love Swingtown. I can’t believe they are talking about cancelling it. Every week I look forward to this show. The characters and the way the stories are told have a way of making you wonder “what if” without ever really doing it. I do understand where some people are offended by the topic of swinging but we are in America and I would almost guarantee in almost every town you can find a few swinging neighbors that you never thought existed. Just b/c we watch this show doesn’t mean we are immoral people or promoting unsafe sex. We are just enjoying a show that has brought out a topic that has been taboo. I say kudo’s to the writers of Swingtown and I will be heavily saddened if it leaves the air.
This is the best network show to come out in years. If you are only watching it for the “swinging” as Angelscrest apparently does (something lacking in your own sexual life honey?) then you are watching it for the wrong reasons. This show takes on so many more issues and covers so much more territory. Grow up, get off your high horse. It isn’t JUST about the sex! If you actually took the time to watch it, you’d end up loving it. Janet is the best character! She probably shares most of Angelscrest’s issues……….but I’m sure Angelscrest hasn’t given “Janet” the time of day. If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. BUT if you don’t watch it, don’t claim you understand the concept of the show. Get off your high horse and give it a chance. I’d bet you $10 you’d actually like the show. Deal?!?
As a viewer who is constantly searching for something original and fresh on television, “swingtown” is a breath of fresh air. It is far too creative and original to be on network television as the networks are so shortsighted as to be constantly trying to pander to there existing viewer base by creating clones of shows they already air. How many more “reality” shows with the same basic concept and “C.S.I.” type shows do we have to endure before someone realizes that all formulas eventually become tired and old and lose viewership. This is why the ratings for networks are constantly fluctuating. If you look 15 years back the big thing was the sitcom. This formula eventually lost viewers as the format became old and tired. Eventually network television will get to a point where viewers will simply stop watching altogether and whatever the next big thing is will not get noticed. Broadcast television needs to realize that the only way to stay relevant in todays marketplace is to expand its offerings to a greater range of viewers and offer several different types of programming or risk becoming irrelevant altogether.
Wow, Angelscrest is completely off the wall. Has anyone really listened to the things she is saying?
She tells people they are going to get STD’s. From What? Watching a TV show. That’s her response to people who said they like the show, not that they practice unsafe sex or even that they swing.
She says before people started acting “like a bunch of skanks” (her words) there were two venereal diseases and they were treatable by penicillin. Apparently she does not realize that diseases become immune to penicillin and other drugs because they adapt to survive, and has nothing to do with how people act. And, if people only recently started acting like “skanks”, how did they get those earlier venereal diseases.
She also says that the term STD was made up by the “PC police”, whoever that is, to get rid of the stigma of calling them venereal diseases. Does she realize that STD stands for Sexually Transmitted Disease? There is less stigma in that? Wow!!
And where did her hot tub speech come from? I can’t find any posting from anyone claiming a hot tub was going to protect them from any disease.
Angelscrest is just a sad, out-of-touch person that feels she has to put down people that don’t do what she thinks they should or should not do. Even if it only involves watching a tv show that she finds objectionable. I find most tv shows objectionable, but I don’t criticize people for watching them. Swingtown is one of the few shows I find enjoyable. Only a closed-minded person would not like it only because of its subject. The storyline was written so that people who are into or at least interested in swinging can find support for that. But it is also written so that people who are against swinging can find support for their position in the problems the characters experience as they become involved in that lifestyle. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is brilliant storywriting.
My husband & I love this show! At least it’s not another cop/lawyer or hospital show! It is totally different & entertaining and the underlying stories of each character aren’t just about orgies- they have real issues just like everone else.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show! I really hope that it is not cancelled! They did the same thing to another show I really liked in 2006 with Lana parrilla in it: “Windfall”. Why get us hooked on a show that we take the time to get into and then cancel it due to low ratings – it’s the same thing – you aired it in the summer on a Friday night – sheesh!
Give it another shot – it’s a GREAT show and all the characters are amazing (not to mention sexy – ahem; Jack Davenport; Grant Show …!)
SICK, SICK, SICK of crime/drama and especially reality shows!! Hate idol, dancing with stars, etc… give us some variety, everything else besides Swingtown is nothing but a cookie cutter show. LOVED Swingtown, it’s funny, entertaining, has a great cast, great music and I was too young to remember the 70’s. I don’t understand why people have their underwear in such a bunch about this show, I bet 99% of the critics have not even watched the show, just read it’s book by the cover. CBS shows more sex on the Young and the Restless or the Bold and the Beautiful in the middle of the afternoon at least on swingtown there’s no violence for a change. It was given a crappy time, why produce a show that you’re not even give it a fair shot. If CBS cancels Swingtown then I will delete CBS from my channel line up. Nothing else on there to watch anyway.
Swingtown is a great show and should not be cancelled. Simple as that.
To all of the ignorant people whining about “std’s”. This show also deals with the repercussions of all of their actions. It does not boast about unprotected sex being a good thing. I could be wrong here, but I don’t think they say either way whether they’re using protection. Are you going to protest all the daytime soaps, too? Please. Get a life. The show is excellent. Correct me if I’m wrong but I tend to think that a lot more people would be interested in seeing more Swingtown, than a silly vampire show. ha ha And I don’t care what the numbers MIGHT say. Vampires? lol Swingtown will either be renewed on CBS or picked up somewhere else and I can’t wait.
Is anybody else sick of over anlayzing this and this crazed Angelcrest chic. You need to get a life and enough of the ML talk, gosh, you seem so pathetic. Who cares about a fictional vampire, tell me that your obsession with a blood sucking made up character is normal, I think not. Just perverted. You talk about the characters like they are real. It’s tv chic, NOT REAL PEOPLE and finally exciting, I was hooked. I lived the 70’s, managed not to get diseases, learned my lessons, had a ball, raised a kid, kept my morality.and the life I lead today has nothing to do with the show. I loved this show, the music, the reality of the way it was and everybody had a choice. It was a different concept, I’d like to see it kicked up a notch on cable if CBS doesn’t have the guts to keep it. They after all gave us BIG Brother? Which I wouldn’t spend 2 seconds on, I would do a load of clothes or go the gym first. Soap Operas have more questionable story lines than swingtown. If this show was called something else, maybe all you uptight souls wouldn’t be complaining so much.
I agree with Boomerchic, I was also there and came out undiseased and learned my lessons the hard way. I don’t believe in Vampires and don’t care to watch them on TV. I had quit watching Friday night TV on CBS until Swingtown, now I can hardly wait for the next episode. I love the music, how they protray the way of life and how real it is. It brings back old memories. I see worse & more suggestive on daytime soaps, Jerry Springer and others. This is a fictional TV show for entertainment, it entertains me, I need a dose of this after all day long of reality.
I love this show. I grew up during that time. the music, clothing, tupperware, wallpaper, walkie talkies, hair styles, EVERYTHING. I love Janet..what a hoot! I will miss her. Gotta say though, I have never watched this show on tv. I catch it on the CBS web site. That is about the only way I can catch it. I saw a commercial yesterday for Swingtown. They said to watch the “last episode”, not season finale. Decision must already be made.
Barb…no decision has been made either way.
ANGELCREST- Really, this is just a tv show. You need to relax and find something else to do with your time other than listing facts from the seventies AIDS epidemic. This is 2008, just because I watch and enjoy a show does not make me as a skank. You are a dork who needs to get in touch with reality. Go see a therepist!
I love Swingtown and I am going to miss it so much!!!!! I hope that they will renew the show..
Someone please tell me why so many people here are completely clueless ? STDs, AIDS, will you give me a break already. I love how people immediately associate the word Swingtown with nothing but sex. This show is much more. And, if you think people swinging is what causes epidemics then you probably should not be here making comments you know absolutely nothing about.
Just saw the finale. I WANT MORE!. How awesome would it be to take back up around 1977, Saturday Night Fever, Disco. As I watch this show, I also feel sadness for my friends who have passed on and seeing this show helps me remember when we were 20 something together, they were here and life was so fun with them. I am sick and tired of the TV networks ignoring my buying power, my age group and our ability to still make an impact on life. I want more. Come on CBS, MORE. We are not done yet, we got a lot of living left to do and reminding my generation of how it used to be, it’s about time. I will support your sponsors who respect my generation, bet I ‘m not the only one.
Swingtown is about family, the good, bad and ugly! I love it. It spices my life without getting into trouble. All of my neigbors love it too. It’s as great as BIG LOVE! Awesome acting, fun story lines, great reminiscent qualities, cool music. I really hope it comes back.
twister anyone?
Wow some one has too much time on their hands and a little obsession with this moonlight show….
Swingtown was a great show I liked it and i only hope they bring it back.
All my opinions on this matter… not that they count for squat in the end. hehehe
Any one else wanna guess which STD’s you-know-who has?
I think it must be a devastating one.
Yes, I lived through the 70s, and it is pretty cool to watch this show and remember the clothes, the music, the first decade of open sexuality. Not perfect, by any means, and the writing could use a bit more unpredictability, but the characters are interesting, and many of the performances are first-rate, and it’s good to see an hour-long drama that isn’t a procedural or a spin-off of another boring show. CBS, pay attention, stop dumping shows on Friday nights where no one watches in the summer, and give this one another chance in a better time slot.
Simply love this show! Great season finale that leaves you wanting more! Lots of cliffhangers that need to be continued….The fine acting, great characters, clothes, music, and overall vibe of the show really made the series work. I was a kid back in the 70’s…so I remember all the clothes /music. I really hope CBS brings thsi wonderful show back. It’s my wife and I’s favorite show!
My Two Cents:
* I thoroughly enjoyed the show, and hope it returns.
* Kelen36: You found the show predictable? Then you must be way smarter than I. :>) I expected the treatment of the Deckers’ characters to be all sex and va-vavoom, but they were portrayed as loving, honest and pretty stable. I expected Janet, after the initial setup, to be horribly narrow-minded, but her character was allowed to stretch. My tendency to pigeonhole the characters was challenged at every turn, and I liked it!
* Angelscrest: I don’t agree with what you say or how you say it, but I feel that your right to speak freely is more important than my reactions.
* I feel sad and slightly nauseated when I read those opinions that are filled with personal attacks, and I wonder if we can do better. Then again, maybe that makes me a censor…
I for one will not be watching anymore new CBS shows (The mentalist, The ex-list, Flashpoint & Eleventh Hour ), because once I’m invested they cancel them (Jericho, Moonlight, Swingtown). Some of us like to watch shows that are not based around a crime scene (CSI, CSI NY, CSI Miami, Numbers, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Without a trace, Cold case).
Love Swingtown. Please don’t cancel. Their dead on with the 70’s era. At least give it a chance. I will go to any chanel you put it on.
Angelcrest: Ok, I don’t usually read or respond to any blogs, or comments, but I just had to say something here.
Seriously, no one needed some half-assed run down on STDs, where they came from or their symptoms…Could it be that you have experienced a few, and thats why you feel the need to share your knowledge??
This show may have a few “swinging” scenes, but thats not all it’s about, not even close. And it certainly isn’t promoting unsafe sex, or encouraging people nowadays to go out and act like that. It’s talking about the sexual revolution that DID happen in the 70’s (even though, no, it was obviously not experienced by everyone), that yes, (the one point you were right about) basically created STDs. People shouldn’t act like that now because we DO know about the consequences, unlike in the 70s. I personally don’t condone swinging or unsafe sex, but give me a break, it’s a TV show, meant for entertainment, and you take the whole thing way too seriously.
Get a life, don’t you have anything better to do than go on and on about a TV show
being irresponsible? Go find a worthy cause, or something important to protest, because it looks like you’ve got too much time on your hands.
and PS. They’re doing it all the time in a pool, not a hot tub, which shows that you are ranting about a show you didn’t even watch, so therefore no nothing about… and even if it was a hot tub, why are you telling everyone about how hot it would have to be to kill germs, etc. Thats info NO ONE cares about. Thats info that has nothing to do with what we are talking about. And thats info that does not make you sound smart….at all!
What I really wanted to say in the first place though, was PLEASE bring back SWINGTOWN. We love that show, I look forward to it all week. I normally never watch summer TV but this show was great, and I almost didn’t even miss Grey’s Anatomy
thanks to Swingtown!
Lastly, I’m all for free speech, I just believe that who ever is talking should know their facts, and that they should not be annoying know-it-alls giving everyone some wannabe medical seminar!
I am also a Swingtown lover! I agree with the person that wrote if you are just watching for the swinging, you aren’t getting the show. There is so much more to it! I hope they keep this show on. I TiVo it every week and would do it any night that it’s on. It’s an adult show. It isn’t intended for children and I don’t watch it when mine are around. It’s entertainment plain and simple. And if you you think that people will get the wrong idea about it and try it out, then you might think that those same people would watch CSI or the numerous other shows that deal with murder and possibly try that out too.
ENTERTAINMENT PEOPLE. That’s all it is.
I really liked the show.
At first, before I had watched, I was upset to think they would have this kind of of a show on network TV.
Although the first couple episodes were a bit risky, it mellowed out towards the end.
I loved the caricature of the young boy and the neighbor girl.
It was dear.
I don’t agree with all of the content, morally, but you have to take it with a grain of salt.
I also liked the show because it reminded me of my childhood.
I was only 9 in 1976. But I looked up to my babysitters who had straight hair like Lori’s. We also had the same barstools, wallpaper and ugly yellow kitchen.
Nonetheless, it was all nostalgic, and I got hooked.
The way it ended however, I don’t see what more they could do with the story line…
What ever is going to happen will happen. I’m just glad there are some other cute shows coming out for fall.
And if you want to watch people doing everyone… all you have to do is turn on Grey’s Anatomy. lol
PS Hyphen does have a good point! Both about cancellations and the crime scene shows!!
This show is great and after viewing the finale (hopefully not the series finale) it did not glamorize the swinging lifestyle but rather showed a true side to it with marital problems and all. BRING IT BACK!
DON’T CANCEL THIS SHOW. BEST SHOW ON TELEVISION. WE WATCH IT EVERY WEEK AND LOVE THE CHARACTERS.
Don’t cancel the show, I need to find out what hapens to all the characters. It was a goo show.
Maybe if CBS would have spent a bit more time on advertizing. Many people that I had spoken to about how much I liked the show had never even heard of it! It is mild compared to the daytime soap operas that are on. Please bring it back!
SWINGTOWN ROCKS! I was a child in the 1970’s and this show captivated me right from the first episode. I love the music, clothes & hairstyles. It is great being reminded of games like Twister and even politlcal issues that took place in the 70’s.
I really hope CBS keeps this show! I watched every episode and looked forward to it every week. If I couldn’t watch it on the scheduled night I DVR’d it!!! Although the story line revolves around “Swingin’” it also addresses other real life issues and how the affect people. I absolutely LOVE this show and seriously hope the network doesn’t leave us hanging.
BRING BACK SWINGTOWN!!!
Please don’t cancel this show!Showtime or any other cable channel PLEASE PICK IT UP!!! I didn’t watch it for the swinging, I watched it for the memories, the songs and the simple life that I wish would come back. I was 12 years old in 1976 and my parents were not so stressed like many of us now…hint, hint! And to tell you the truth I could care less about the swinging part of the show it was all about the other stories. In the begining I didn’t like Janet, though Trina was a skank and I liked Bruce….now it’s all switched around. Love the Roger/Susan thing…..Love Janet, Trina….and think Bruce is a skank! But that’s just my opinion….you know freedom of speech.PLEASE PLEASE SOMEONE PICK UP THIS SHOW!
ITS A DAMN FREAKING TV SHOW…and a damn good one at that.
Don’t turn everything into such drama people. So what people get freakin diseases everyday… It is a bad thing. People should protect themselves from diseases, but you can damn sure bet this TV show didn’t give people diseases… just as watching Food Network didn’t make people fat and watching the Travel show doesn’t make people move away… my daughter watching barney didn’t turn her into a big purple dinasour and watching Dora doesn’t make her Mexican.
ITS A SHOW… A SHOW I HAPPEN TO ENJOY. THE ONLY SHOW THAT I SIT DOWN AND WATCH WEEKLY… You freakin drama starved individuals that have to create something to complain about should maybe jump into the lifesyle and live a little bit. You get off more often, you might not be such a damn negative prude!
BRING BACK SWINGTOWN
BRING BACK SWINGTOWN
BRING BACK SWINGTOWN…..
please!!! Please!!! PLEASE!!!!
A child of the 70’s I enjoyed this show!! Please
BRING SWINGTOWN BACK!!
I love this show!!! The people are great, the personalities have depth and wit. Until this show came on my Husband and I never purchased a DVR, but we did now and we haven’t missed an episode!! As far as the morals, it is not sanctioning any certain moral value, it is just showing a time period that was…Just as Biblical shows show the kings’ concubines, etc. It’s all in fun!!! Hopefully adults…(which at 10pm no children should be watching tv, if they are shame on the parents for not parenting)..know right from wrong and don’t feel the need to copy behavior seen on tv. If they do, then they could still do worse than Swingtown! LOL!! How about the criminal behavior shown by other shows? Dexter? Law & Order? Anyway…It’s an awesome show and my Husband and I really hope it comes back!!!
I agree PLEASE BRING SWINGTOWN BACK!!!!!!!!!!!
Friday nights will not be the same. We love SWING TOWN… I do not subscribe to HBO or Showtime But will if either picks up the show.
I’ll be disappointed if Swingtown is canceled. Loved the show and looked forward to every Friday night. Isn’t anyone else wishing for more episodes to find out a) if Trina has the baby b) if Janet finds out about Susan and Roger c) does Laurie’s boyfriend return from Guatemala? d) what happens with the next door neighbor? They left this show with so many cliffhangers. And the music!! This show was a breath of fresh air. Everything else on network TV is so predictable.
anglescrest, you make me laugh. I am a Brit and Americans seem to think that we Brits are uptight. Do you know that you have more rapes per city than England, yet we show more graphic nudity and ‘irresponsible sexual behaviour’ on our TV screens than your networks… cases in point being the shows ‘Rome’ and ‘The Tudors’. If people are too moronic to not be able to separate fact, ie real life, from fiction, ie the TV screen then maybe it is the viewer that has the problem. It seems to me that it is your kind of American that has the problem of over the top up-tightness that creates repressive and harsh regimes… hence your political figures sucking up to the ‘black and white, no grey areas in life’ bible bashing holier than thou morons that are in existence in the States today. To sum up and to quote from the bible: ‘Let he who is without sin cast the first stone’ (Brings back memories of a certain TV evangelist crying crocodile tears and saying “I have sinned”… if you don’t like what is on the TV don’t watch it. Use the off switch and read a book or something else because it is not the TV that creates these diseases of which you speak, it is the people who lived the lifestyle. Oh and by the way, as you sound like a Republican and a fully paid up member of the NRA, if these same people go out shooting people because they see it on the TV screen rather than cancel the shows that you complain about why not make the sale of guns more difficult? Maybe less people would end up getting shot…
There seem to be 2 camps of detractors here:
(1) The bitter Moonlight fans who believe their show was cancelled to make room for Swingtown. Moonlight was cancelled because of low ratings – go immerse yourselves in fanfic (like the Quantum Leap fans of yore) and just get over it.
(2) The Bible-thumpers who believe that because CBS airs a period show on a fringe lifestyle that therefore they must endorse said lifestyle. In case you haven’t been watching (and many of you haven’t), the swinger couple went monogamous and are embracing parenthood while the middle-class parents who dabbled in the lifestyle are now seeing their marriages falling apart. So please, please, PLEASE stop with all the drivel about CBS endorsing dangerous lifestyles and just get over it.
This show has been very entertaining for those who looked past the hype and got into the storylines. Did you really expect naked, writhing bodies on CBS? Puhleaze.
I agree with all of what Pam wrote. Also if I wasn’t home I TIVO it. It the same thing NBC did with Windfall. Test it in the fall with all the other new shows. I love this show. Bring Swingtown Back!! Bring Swingtown Back!!
I’d have to say they killed any hope of the show being picked up with all the plot twists and wrap-ups in the finale…
It would be a completely different show if it was picked back up.
It’s cancelled?! I really enjoyed this show, I especially loved the storyline with Doug and Laurie. What I couldn’t understand though was why would Susan let Laurie go to Guatemala? She is just a child with a lot of growing up to do. Ditto for Bruce, instead of hooking up with that skank, he should be with Susan and try to work things out at least. I was just a child in the 70’s, but seeing the clothes, hairstyles and decor was great. Please don’t cancel this show, it’s very entertaining. Better than those awful reality shows.
And PS, I have never watched the show, my wife loves it though… we both grew up in the 80s and despite the fact that we have probably, between us, seen over a million shootings, sex scenes, murders, moonings, drug uses and who knows what else, neither of us are skanks, murderers, rapists, gun crazy republican rednecks, drug addicts or anything else similar. TV is a form of entertainment, NOTHING MORE and if people think that it makes people go out and act like the former then THESE are the people with the problem. So wht if a show depicts swinging? What’s the biggy? It happened and that’s that. I think that if you could, people like you would ban nature shows because it shows animals humping in public, rather than in the bedroom where it’s supposed to happen… or the living room… or the hot tub… or maybe we should ban history shows because some of them depict scenes of warfare… sorry to go on here but as I said, TV is a form of entertainment and is not there to endorse actions that happened in the past or to try to shape the future. There are more important things to worry about such as money hungry over rich speculators trying to make an extra buck by artificially raising gas prices and blaming it on a non existant increase in supply, thereby taking that buck out of our pockets and making the average working Joe poorer. Anyway, that’s that, given more than my two cent’s worth but I reckon it’s all valid.
I’m in my twenties and after hearing the ladies at work talk about this show and read all the back and forth comments I thought I would check the show for myself. I have to say I found the show interesting and found myself drawn to the characters. If anything will charge the ratings for this show it will be all the negative comments –it caught my attention.
Nonetheless, I found the show to be more than sex and drugs I found it heart breaking to see couples struggling in their relationships and wonder why they remain together (is it for the kids). For me it makes me think about getting married young. You see it on the show and in real life after years of marriage some couples do stray. And the kids you see how Shanna’s character was affected after seeing her parents with another couple her relationship with her parent suffered.
I’ve never heard of the show Moonlight but from what I’m hearing its another fantasy type show. I think a show like Swingtown can bring up some of the issues people are discussing and the consequences that come along. From what I saw these characters are dealing with so much no wonder some people are uptight about it (it hits too close to home) and if they are dealing with it in life they don’t want to see it on television.
Is it true? Is Swingtown canceled? I love the show so much that I actually searched the internet for comments on it’s possible cancellation. I have never searched the internet for TV purposes. I am so sad to see it go…
I love this show. It is no different than any of the daytime soaps where everyone is sleeping around. I really hope it makes a return to tv. Bring back Swingtown.
I LOVE THE SHOW! Such a look into history with a twist.
I love the time that it’s on… 10 o’clock pm is great, put your kids to bed and spend sometime in the past. PLEASE DON’T CANCEL THE SHOW!!!! We need a refreshing new show that puts the rest to shame… GREAT ACTORS!!! GREAT PLOT!!! I can’t remember the last time I got into a show this good… Put this show on cable if we need to… I will subscribe… It’s that good and it’s not a reality show… to many good actors are being put off because of reality tv… LETS KEEP IT GOING>>>> PLEASE…
OregonMOM
I love watching this show! As a twenty year old it’s an eye opener to the world past generations have lived. It brings up great issues that are real and not brushed under the rug. As Trina said, it’s not the fifties anymore. Real issues should be talked about and not kept secret. Maybe the show hasn’t turned into a 7th Heaven right from wrong (which is a good thing) but it brings this things up and leaves the viewer to be in check with their morals in making their own decisions on the characters’ choices. I would truely be dissapointed if the show was cancelled. All the characters have something in them that someone from every generation can connect with. PLEASE DON’T CANCELL THE SHOW!!!!
Swingtown is a beautifully crafted drama with well written characters and excellent acting. As a metaphor for a country coming of age, it paints broad themes in delicate strokes, and is one of the BEST works of art on television these days – such a break from the stale, formulaic junk that occupies most of the network airtime. BRING IT BACK PLEASE!!!!
I really enjoyed the show… it shed light on the whole coming of age era and I really got into the show and connected with the characters. I am only 18 but truly enjoyed it and hope that they dont cancel the show
It made no sense to move the show to friday nights when most lifestyle people that would watch the show would be out swinging! Duh!
Lifestylers, my guess is that the reason it was moved to Friday night was that at that point Swingtown was dead already and CBS just wanted to give Flashpoint a try on Thursdays.
Starspeckled – They showed Roger and Susan standing in the hotel room, and Bruce and Melinda kissing…but just because we saw them “together” doesn’t mean anything happened with one or both couples. I am gonna keep the faith and assume that there’s still plenty they can do with the storylines. Let’s all cross our fingers that they bring it back somehow somewhere!
I love Swingtown. How can they leave us hanging like that???? I want to know
what is going to happen next. Bring it back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are no good shows to watch on TV anymore………..This show brings back wonderful memories for me. I’m 59 yrs young and very open minded. I would not want to participate
on what the couples do but I sure enjoy looking at it.
Speaking of which, where is “Flashpoint”? Is it still on? Frankly, I only watched the first episode. If it isn’t cop/law shows (CSI, Law & Order, NCIS, Criminal Minds, etc.) it’s reality TV (which in my opinion is the most mind-numbing thing you can do with your time). Flashpoint was just another cookie-cutter crime drama. That’s what makes Swingtown so great. It’s a show that the largest segment of the population can relate to — maybe not the open marriage but certainly the era. That was the prime baby boomer decade. The clothes, the sets, the music were so authentic. None of this “plastic wrap” crap of today. I hope CBS gives this show another chance.
I am only 31 and I love Swingtown. I love the music, the history lessons, the characters and the knowledge of what the 70’s were like. If Showtime or DirecTV takes it, I will not be able to watch it. I have cable, not satellite and not Showtime either. Angelscrest needs to lighten up, did he/she complain about that 70’s show also!??! If they drop this show, my friends and I will be extremely disappointed.
Not sure if anybody who is in the decision making dept. is reading this but for what it’s worth you guys are complete morons if you cancel this show. It’s your updated version of Knot’s Landing in the making. Do you remember that far back? It could beat the shit out of Desperate Housewifes easily if you would let them develop the script and give it a good time slot. Your crazy not to go for this. These actors and writers were just getting started, can you imagine the character development here? It could go on easily for 7-10 years. It would have familiar characters over the turbulent late 70’s-80;s with soap opera appeal. Just like Knot’s Landing did. Didn’t you guys make alot of money off that show?
Swingtown was my favorite show. And like others have said, it is a lot more than ’swinging’. It is about the complex personalities and relationships. I love Roger! I hope CBS decides to bring it back, or at the very least sell it to cable. For those that don’t like it, don’t watch. If you are worried about STD’s and rely on TV to teach your kids, then something’s wrong.
Free love. Everyone should just love & not hate. Swingtown reminds me of the great life that I had with my husband before he tragically died in a golfing incident involving one of our other partners. Stay away from absinthe. That is what ruined our life; not the free love with multiple partners (male & female) in and around our relationship and the total disregard for any sort of birth control or protection. I wouldn’t have little buttercup if not for my husband, some grass & a fisherman from Hong Kong. But that darned absinthe took it all away. Miss ya Geoff & go Susan! Stay real! xoxo Joan.
Joan you’re right on! My crazy sex with multiple men during the duration of Swingtown’s season has given me a renewed sex life with my partners. Save for the herpes I contracted this show has inspiring in every positive way. You go Joan!!!!
I loved the show,in some ways I like that it had no future and the ending let you hang.I am disappointed that CBS is such a coward to not give it a little more time. If MASH, or All in The Family were to premier today, they would have been gone for both had a slow start for viewers. Also I would like to say is that I believe it was a good look at a confusing time. the role of woman were changing, family and relations were being questioned. I think the show was just beginning, but since it is over the way it ended gives me time to write my own ending. And Angelcrest, thanks for a plot twist,I’m going to add it to my story line in my head, STDs happened, as well as divorce, remarriage, death, and growth, awakening, and finding ones self. You see angelcrest life is messy, and as with art, work, or other achievements, sometimes you have to get a little dirty, to to achieve the goal you are happy with. And sometimes getting dirty can be fun.Secondly I doubt that an hour a week will shake the fiber of America, but if it causes one or two relationships to question their lives, I think, like Sue and her husband the issues were already there, maybe they can get some answers, and they may not be conventional, but as a child of the 70’s, I will not judge ones path to peace.Unless, has it touched a nerve Angelcrest?
This is an outrage! Swingtown represents the scum of society. God help these heathens & CBS is on the fast track to Hell!
PLEASE RENEW SWINGTOWN….THERE ARE MORE VIEWERS & FANS THAN YOU THINK!!!
haha…do you guys really think WATCHING the show will give you vd…hahahah…
that is funny…: )
Oh, come on you rightous scum, this show’s almost historically accurate portrayal, documents a past time where aids was never thought of. it was a different time and we babyboomers have a right to fantasize about what might have been going on in the world then, and how things have changed today. This show is great and I hope someone picks it up.
I love the show Swingtown. I figured it would continue since it’s so entertaining. It’s not fair that they aired it at a bad time. People are busy in the summer and a lot of people don’t have time to sit inside and watch tv. They need to give Swingtown a second chance and air it in the fall or winter.
The show represents what was happening in that era. Sexual revolution, women’s liberation etc. They aren’t re-writing history, so don’t be so offended.
I loved Swingtown. I hope it comes back either on CBS or cable.
Yes Laney, I agree with you im a little older 43 but I love the music, the charaters, and the whole story line in general.Just knowing what went on when I was younger is like learning all over again. I think this show is amazing and CBS should give it another chance, yes there are more fans than CBS realizes.
I grew up in that era and graduated high school in 1976 when the show opens. I totally love the show! Why is it that CBS seems to cancel the totally good shows, the very interesting ones, without really giving them a chance? I watched “Moonlight” and that is cancelled, and it seems “Numbers” may not make it much further. What is up with those guys?
You know we have read a few of the responses from above and we cant help but to laugh. We really hope that most of you do realize that swingtown is just a show that is just for entertainment. Its only purpose is to entertain and if you dont like it then change the channel its that simple. We love the show and we hope that season two is in the works but if its not then its not. And please remember that people are responsible for there own actions not a TV show.
It is interesting that angelscrest left the conversation. S/he doesn’t realize that s/he tells a lot thru what s/he says (and doesn’t say). It is typical rhetoric of the religous fundamental and conservative. (though not all are like that, just too many). My husband and I find it interesting that people get all outspoken about sex and swearing yet violence scenes are rarely (if ever) edited for content.
I’ve enjoyed watching the dynamic and relatively complex nature of the relationships of SwingTown. The characters are dealing with situations that are not from “Ozzy & Harriet” or “Brady Bunch” fantasy. I think the show “My Teenage Life/Life of a Teenage” (something like that) hosted on one of the religious based channels that deals with as much, if not more sex issues than this show. The thing to remember it is all entertainment, not a ’cause’. If you think “tv” is a ’cause’ you need to expand your horizon and live a life outside the TV fantasy.
Though I’d prefer to the TV to be off I’ve found myself turning to Comcast’s TV on Demand to watch the show in Sundays (i.e. minus the commercials & only 40 minutes). I wasn’t sure if the show was going to continue on so I jumped on to the internet to find out more only to find these postings.
I do hope that someone from CBS or interested in picking up the show reads all of this. The show is really innocent in regards to sex, it is more about relationships during the 70s (which in many ways have not changed much thru the years), unfortunately there are some that become righteous and limit their site when they read the title.
Angelscrest:
LIGHTEN UP!!
I read the first post and thought…mmm she needs to loosen up, get ehem…IT IS ENTERTAINMENT. YOU NO LIKE, YOU TURN CHANNEL. I am sure all your children were little darlings and never had sex til they married…ehem……Preach preach preach. Personally I believe in live and let live. If someone choses that lifestyle…that is their choice…just as many issues are…smoking, drinking, abortions, etc……either way I thought the storyline was good. It looked at a the ethical (pregnant and swinging) as well as morals of swinging. Also its effects on relationships. I was actually amazed at one scene where Janet found out Trina was pregnant and removed the booze from her hand……sadly that was not the case in the 70’s many women still were unaware of the effects of booze on fetuses.
No one has the right to judge or preach. And no one has the right to say people with STD’s should pay for their own medical care….are you flipping nuts…..all that will do is encourage people to not get treatment and worsen the occurances of STI’S (the proper term now……opposed to STD)……and the complications. If fact I remember one incidence that occured in 1989. I had a patient come in….we did routine blood screens…this lady was in her 70’s and she had syphillis……as far as we can guess she caught it from her hubby in the 40’s when he was a soldier.
Lets make drunks pay for their medical needs, indeed diabetics…they just need to lay off the sugar…and oh lets not forget, obese people, idiot drives who get into wrecks…..mmm the list is endless…if we all were so preachy and self righteous. MMm in fact getting pregnant is a choice…I suppose in the posters Angelscrest world…if you are unmarried you would be made to pay your medical costs for labour and delivery…of course the morally correct married woman would be covered……
I am neither for or against swinging. Would I do it…..honestly, no..STI’s my concern? no rather what I have seen over the decades…..the deteriotion of relationships…my sister is much older than i and could have been a cast member of swingtown…gorgeous couple and they did have an open relationship with another couple. Final outcome…emotions…..relationships breaking up….freindships lost.
I think it takes a strong type of couple to do swinging……
I would love to see the show come back….I am curious where the writers plan to go with the storyline. I do not think Susan would go with Roger…she loves Janet too much….and again cheating is a totally different set of issues then swinging…..
I found the series entertaining…and not once was tempted to become a depolarable swinger (tongue in cheek there folks….)
I am so happy that i am morally intact! I would have had to sue the network otherwise……LOL……
Angelscrest………VALIUM……it may be good for what ails you
Swingtown rocks and I will really miss it.
Angelscrest – It’s people like you that ruin America. You act like this because your “partner” cheated on you (because you’re fat and ugly) and now you have a pound of diseases pouring out of your genitals; that’s your problem – not ours. If you don’t like free speech then you need to move to Iraq, idiot.
Religion fokks everything up – waste your life preaching and not enjoying a thing to find out you wasted your only chance. There isn’t anything afterwards, lighten up.
Check out http://www.SaveSwingtown.com for the latest updates .. the site will turn into a fan site once it gets renewed!
SaveSwingtown.com
it was bad enough they ditched Jericho and Moonlight – if they ditch Swingtown too, I WILL stop watching CBS completely – INCLUDING Monday night!! it’s getting so you can’t watch tv at all anymore… all the good stuff is canceled (most before it even gets a real chance) what happened to the days when you could really get involved with characters and story lines and just lose yourself in tv for an hour?
p.s. Angelcrest – if you actually watched the show you would know that it didn’t exactly ADVOCATE swinging or ‘loose morals’ or whatever you think… it seemed to me that it did a good job of focusing on the CONS to the ’swinging’ lifestyle a lot of the time – the show was more about RELATIONSHIPS than swinging… it was about PEOPLE… with the same issues and insecurities we all have – which was clear even with the NON-swinging couple
by the end of the season we saw that swinging just BARELY worked for one couple, it tore another couple apart… and NOT swinging at all did NOTHING to stop the marriage of the NON-swingers from spiraling toward disaster
so I’d say swinging hardly comes off looking like a great idea…
besides how weak minded do you think we all are? gosh if we all went out and did everything we see in movies or on tv – how would we have the time or the energy to sit here squawking on these message boards? =)
bottom line if you don’t like the subject matter, fine, you don’t have to watch!! but you should know what you’re talking about before you hop on your soap box
I love this show and hate to see it cancelled. To the people who complain that this show contributes to the break down of society, come on. It’s just an entertaining show. It doesn’t make people run out and have sex. Saying that Swingtown attributes to the rise of STD’s is like saying that CSI contributes to the rise of murders. CSI shows dead bodies, people in animal costumes having sex, and adult people dressed as babies and no one says a thing. No sponsors drop their advertising. Have a show like Swingtown and people freak out. There is a lot more sex shown on daytime soap operas than on Swingtown. I have been watching the show since the beginning and my husband and I have yet to participate in swinging. So much for Swingtown’s brainwashing.
Wow! I love the show, although, it WAS getting a little predictable. What I find funny is the number of people who think swinging was a ’70’s only’ phenomenon. Rest assured, it is more popular and more accepted now than ever. Just look around your city, I promise you’ll find swinger friendly clubs and people all over. You might be surprised at how many of your friends are in the lifestyle…
This show is fun for us, we enjoyed the fact that our “vanilla” friends were so intrigued by the concept. My husband and I have been swingers for 20 years and are happy, successful and (unbeleivable!) have never had an STD! (There’s a little thing called a condom that has become pretty popular…) I love all the interest in the show, whether you love it or hate it, it’s just tv.
Swingtown is such a great show. That’s what was going on the the 70’s to all you way too conservative people. It has layers of relationships of many ages and humor as well. I love it as well as several friends and want this to come back. That STD comment was un called for. Open your mind up, it is just TV as lifestyler said. Plus Roger is so HOT!!! Janet is one of the best characters and I doubt she will ever swing!!
Absolutely love this show and so does my entire family. It reminds me of Dallas and Knots Landing, except everybody was rich though. This is more real life stuff, except for the swinging part. If you don’t like the swinging part, ignore it. Great show. I’ll watch it on whatever channel.
Thanks
Swingtown is a great show. CBS always cancels the good shows–American Gothic (1995/1996), Jericho, and more recently, Cane. It stinks when you invest a lot of time in a show only to have it canceled. I think they need to check their ratings system. I’m sure it’s old and outdated and not even accurate. Why is it that the stupid and boring shows remain on the air? I hope Swingtown comes back.
As to this Angelscrest person, how ridiculous to blame all of the world’s problems on a television show. If television shows are causing people to do bad things or are putting ideas in people’s head, then shouldn’t almost all of them be taken off the air? Ridiculous!!!!!
Angelscrest,
Who died and made you the God of manipulating what the rest of us get to watch and do? Swingtown was entertaining with interesting characters and plot twists. It is unfortunate that it was moved to Friday night in the summer. Horrible place to get ratings. The gospel according to Angelscrest would suggest to us that the world would be perfect if we all followed the rules and regulations she suggests. Kind of like Osama Bin Laden. Angelscrest is surely disease free because no one would touch her with someone else’s ten foot pole…
I am a Moonlight & Swingtown fan although I don’t understand why Moonlight is being talked so much here (other than the fact that CBS should not have canceled it). I love the adult themed Swingtown. I am over 18 & I like to see TV shows that aren’t made for younger viewers on network TV. I thought Swingtown was a bit campy but the story lines & acting were good overall IMHO. Plus I grew up in the 70’s & I enjoyed seeing that time, disastrous fashion & all, retold. I have not met a person face to face who didn’t say they liked Swingtown when the topic turned to TV. For those (or I should say the one repetitive poster in this thread) who is appalled by Swingtown… use your remote to change the channel. That’s what it’s there for.
p.s… angelscrest, this is your friendly weekly reminder that it’s time for you to go change out that cork in your butt…
Geez angelscrest, if you don’t like the content turn the channel. Not everyone is as uptight as you come across as being. I thought the show was excellent and I’m sorry to see it go. I can only hope it finds a home and if it does, I’ll be tuning in. Now go find yourself a nice little cartoon to keep yourself occupied.
angelscrest, you are a freak. This show is awesome. It NEEDS to be brought back and I would LOVE to see it on Showtime because then it really could explore avenues inherent to the storylines which it can’t on broadcast TV. PLEASE SAVE SWINGTOWN!
I absolutely loved the show! I hope it is not cancelled. I am in my 30’s and found it very amusing. It is very detailed to the 70’s era from the music, the wallpaper, clothing, tv’s, the whole 9. I do not believe it advocates negative behavior. Again, it was mearly only a period of time.
For the comments about STD’s, etc. Everyone is knowledgable about that and should no that the kind of behavior illustrated in the show is not appropriate in today’s society. However, everyone knows that many shows have some degree of promiscuous behavior and people sleeping around. We are not suppose to act out what we see in TV. They are many shows far far worse. I am not much one for TV, but I was sure never to miss any show. If it is cancelled, it would be a shame. I think it has not had enough time yet for people to really start watching. Summer time is very busy, with people traveling etc. The fall would be a great time to give it a whirl and follow the ratings. It needs a chance. At least give it to another network station, or perhaps have come on in the late night hour.
Thank You! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SAVE SWINGTOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please save swingtown! I love this show!
save swingtown!
I started watching Swingtown, because for years I have been looking for a Knots Landing replacement and with Swingtown, I found it! I do have to admit though, I don’t like the swinging part and am embarrassed to say I watch it-I have never told anyone (it’s my dirty little secret, lol). T
he swing thing makes me uncomfortable and I know they would have a lot more viewers without it. A lot of people are turned off by the sex part. The way I figure it, it’s the same as Dallas, or Knots landing with the lies and affairs, etc. it’s just their spouses allow it on this show, with restrictions that don’t always work. It’s been interesting watching their marriages start to crumble because of the open relationships, so I have to say to those people who say it will corrupt people, I think it will do the opposite and show how problems can develop and end a marriage. I was a kid in the seventies and heard whispers about swinging and hoped it wasn’t true-now I am shaking my head, lol. I really like this show, because of the characters and how they have developed, I hope CBS gives it a chance and stops with the cheap in your face promo’s that make it look like a porno series. There is a lot more to it than that.
Oh yeah, anyone else agree with me that Janet, who is so annoying, has stolen the show and her character is now the best! Go Janet!!!
this was the best show on tv this summer. i really wish they would move it to showtime and lets see some real swinging. love the show, love the characters, the greatest show of the summer. cbs own showtime or showtime owns cbs so lets just switch and make a surper swingtown. save our town!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please, Please don’t cancel this show. I have a group of friends that come over and watch with myself and my husband. Then afterward we end up playin a card game or just hangin out. PLEASE don’t cancel!!!!!!
I too am sad that this show wont be back,,, good acting,, storyline, and music. Hopefully it will be picked up by some network or cable. And Angelscrest,, this is a TV site,,, get off your bully pulpit, and have some fun in life,,, you are way too uptight..
Ok, lets face it, Swingtown rocks and should stay on. My Husband and I watched every episode of is and recorded it when we weren’t home and watched it later. Fact, Swingers do exist, even today, OMG, and taking a look back into the 70’s is awesome. Don’t cancel the show as it has a LOT of fans. We think that the show would be a great hit on Showtime, just like Weeds. That’s another great show.
P.S. Angelcrest you need a reality check or a therapist, so back off off the people who like the show and don’t watch it. DUH
First of all, I love Swingtown and will be so sad if it’s really over forever. Secondly, I am cracking up at all of you that posted replies to Angelscrest. I agree with all of you and am also wondering why that person even stays on this blog. She needs to get a friend or hobby or something. Anyway, I needed a good laugh today and am very happy that I found all of the Angelscrest haters. I especially liked “Angelscrest, would you please just go away”. Let’s keep our fingers crossed for a season 2. Oh, and for the record, I don’t swing or have std’s and still LOVE Swingtown–so take that Angelscrest!!!!!
the show was great,i wish that they would not of switched the nights of it’s airing that was not helpful for the rating.ihow can one episode make one very lonely women come to the conclusion that a t.v program is gonna make people go out and have multiple partners and get STDs that is stupid.the show is great ,the music is the bomb and the characters were great.moonlight good but not great how many shows can you have of a vampire that falls in love with a mortal give it a rest.
Regardless whether or not Swingtown is picked up or cancelled, the magnetism between the Susan and Roger characters should be mined in some form somewhere. They were so much fun (and agony!) to watch. They were believably drawn to one another in spite of both of their ideals. Equally fun to watch was the “swinger” couple, Tom and Trina. Their palpable innocence and earnestness in challenging the status quo of the 50s and 60s was authentic. They were the people that I knew during that “experimental” time, before the innocence shattered under the weight of war, assassination and deadly diseases. Even the prim, planned out life of Janet was beginning to flower. This truly was a cross section of the world I lived in in the 70s. Thanks for the smiles from, “been there, did that – and lived to recognize my fun and foibles in your wonderful series!
A show worth renewal would be one that sparks many a conversation both for and against. A show that stimulates debate on both sides of the issue would be one to consider airing for yet additional season. A show that allows us to agree to disagree would be one worthy of return.
Doesn’t the myriad of posts here just affirm that CBS should indeed bring Swingtown back for another season? I think so. If I’m wrong, let this be the last post on the subject.
Oh, Affirmation. If only internet posts could translate to advertising dollars, you would be quite correct in your assumption.
In response to angelscrest’s comment, I would like to state that I am a young adult. I have watched the show and would never think of suing the network. It is simply a show; many other shows also have risqué behaviors displayed on them every day. Swingtown is on at a later time and it is up to the parents to view what shows their teens are watching. The average teen is required to take a health class by high school that covers the physical consequences of having sex at a young age. Swingtown is a TV show, not real life, and any teen watching this show should have enough common sense to realize that.
I do think you made some very strong points about STD’s coming into full range in the seventies. However, today most shows, as unfortunate as it may be, have sexual references all of the time. People on TV have affairs and sleep around not only on Swingtown, but also on Boston Legal, Desperate Housewives, Grays Anatomy and on a whole host of other shows. It should not be taken off the network just because it is risqué.
If this show is not renewed it will be one of the biggest miss steps since the first cancellation of “FAMILY GUY.”….and we all know what happened there,FAMILY GUY IS AND WAS ONE OF THE BRIGHTEST SHOWS ON T.V. Do yourselves and the viewing public a favor. ” GET SWINGTOWN BACK ON THE AIR!!!!”
IT’S JUST THAT SIMPLE!!!
Personally, my husband and I both love the show. While to some it may appear that they are promoting something that may or may not have led to STD’s, this was real life. No where in the show does it stipulate to have sex without using protection and we don’t know whether they were using it or not. Not one episode has made that information available to us at all. There aren’t many shows available on cable or regular tv that don’t involve sex, unless you are watching a childrens channel. We have to face that fact! And whether you believe in “sharing” or not, is a personal decision to be made by the couple or couples involved not the general public! Instead of having a “closed” mind, we should all just accept the fact that this did go on, then and now. Many couples do it and have a happy fulfilling life. Just because you don’t agree with it personally, doesn’t mean a d*** thing. Theres a lot of stuff going on that someone is going to have a problem with. Live your own life and stop judging others!
I was waiting to see Swingtown tonight and instead, I heard rap music and some show so boring it couldn’t hold my interest for the first two minutes so I switched channels. Why does CBS, and the other networks, cancel shows when it is the networks themselves that cause the ratings drop? It was two weeks before I found out the show had been changed from Thursdays to Fridays and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one.
Whoa ! When I switched the channel to watch Swingtown tonight and found it wasn’t on the air, I headed for the ‘net to see what was happening and found the postings above. I don’t know about the ratings, but the interest shown in this site speaks for itself.
Even though I consider myself to be pretty fundamental in my beliefs (Don’t lie, cheat or steal – ever ! God may forgive you but I won’t) I enjoy the show and it’s one of the few my wife and I have ever made a point of watching. I don’t think the show has gotten a fair shake, maybe because we have a few religious fanatics at CBS who happen to be in positions of power and don’t respect the U.S. constitution that protects their right to believe whatever they want (as long as they don’t try to impose their narrow minded beliefs on anyone else). Those that do are called bigots and it’s time we stopped explaining ourselves to them and “made ‘em pay” for their mindless tyranny.
That being said, I hope to see the show back on the air, and to H*ll with what “Christians” think about that. They are just one segment of our society and it’s time they started respecting the rights of those us that that don’t share their peculiar view of this life.
Are you kidding me!! I couldn’t wait to see this weeks Swingtown! It was getting HOT!! Instead, there was some rap guys singing and then began fighting and the next thing I knew, it was Numbers. I looked at the schedule and it is still listed for Friday’s on the CBS website. Upon doing some searches, I come across this website and others wondering if the rumor is true. I don’t watch any other show because I don’t watch much TV in general but I have never missed one of the Swingtown shows. Please bring the show back!!!!!!!!! My husband and I really can relate to the 70’s and what was going on then because we lived it. It has such a great story line and the actors and actresses are a perfect match. I have looked forward to watching this show every week since the very first one. I even rearrange plans around this show. It will be a grave disappointment if this show is canceled. Please find a way to bring it back. I know there are other loyal fans out there who may not make their voice heard. The following is there.
Seriously, It’s a tv show people. Don’t make it into an issue of morals, and the institution of marriage being ruined. If you don’t like what they air, TURN THE CHANNEL.
angelscrest –
FYI were you even sexually active in the time period repsresented in Swingtown? It was 1976. Was there experimentation? You bet your virginal butt that there was. Do you think that people were stupid? Do you think that condoms weren’t invented yet? Gawd, get a life and quit spoiling it for those of us who were there and enjoy a little reminiscing. I agree with the poster who suggested to go back to your bible class. Who needs your lectures?
Angelcrest can say what she wants about the moral leanings of seventies sexual culture. Whatever floats your puritanical boat. But it is appalling that she/he would suggest that AIDS “hasn’t gone away” because of tv shows about sex. AIDS hasn’t gone away because of abstinence only sex education, intravenous drug use, and mostly lack of funding to support prevention education programs in our country and around the world. It’s not only hateful and disrespectful to those living with this horrid disease, REGARDLESS of how they contracted it (although most who live with it did not, in fact, contract it by swinging, television inspired or otherwise), it’s simply false.
This show cannot be canceled! i happened to run into it one night and got completely hooked! it is wonderful and so amusing to watch! the storyline is a different one to play with. Also it shows both sides of the argument on the show, and it shows both pros and cons to the lifestyle. and i agree, lighten up! its entertainment! its a fun show that needs time to catch on and build up more story! the last episode left so many cliffhangers that it just simply cannot be canceled!
I love the actors (except the one who plays Bruce) and would love to see them on other shows. I would be ecstatic if the show came back on another station or cable (NOT HBO or Showtime – no need to have to pay!) I believe the show was doomed when they moved it to Friday nights, especially during Summer. They need to give this show a chance by trying another day of the week, even if we have to wait until next Summer. I absolutely love the show, and for those that don’t like these kind of shows, you can always change the channel, or better yet, now you can watch McPalin on CNN, FoxNews or MSNBC.
I love this show and to all of you pruds out there this is reality some people do live like this and if they do not affect you get over it.
I would be sad if this show doesn’t come back. I find the concept refreshing and completely entertaining.
Hello, Are you people insane. First off the moran who posted “Aids became more controllable because the gay community became more responsible”, Shut Up! Did you not do your research on Aids or did you just believe what racists told you? Aids can be transfered to ANYBODY through the EXCHANGE of Bodily Fluids. IE, Sex with Guys and Girls, not just Gay People. That does not include kissing, or even hugging and touching that persons sweat. Aids can be transferred through Sex, Becoming Blood Bodies, getting a transfusion, Sharing Needles, an unborn baby can even get it if the baby is born naturally and not C-Section. Which is why Mothers with Aids must have C-sections when it is known they have the desease. Second of All, Have you heard of Condoms? You can still experience the 70’s free love and not get an STD because of Condoms and making other smart decisions. Third of all, the show is about the history of the 70’s. What it was like for real people during that time engaging in the swinger lifestyle. I enjoyed the show and I don’t think CBS is being Irresponsible for having the show. It is on Late at night for a reason. It is the parents job to sensor what their children watch, not the TV Stations Job. I for one am tired of the same old kinds of TV Shows that end up having the same type of stories. Change can be a good thing and I think Swingtown has that. Maybe CBS just picked the wrong time to air the show. Maybe a Fall Season would have been better than Summer. It’s all about Timing.
To the first poster et all. Clearly this show was not about bed hopping. It was about emerging from a time of social change and finding a place in the changing world. The production values of this show were excellent. Great custom, sets, music, characters, stories, and above all good acting. It is a shame if it goes away they really captured an electric era in time. I’d watch it just for the way they captured the 70’s, even if they retooled it under a different overall premise and title.
I personally agree with some of the first poster views on swingtown and it promiscuity however I don’t believe it will influence teens to follow that behavior if they have good parents and role models in their everyday lives.
Everyone over the age of 12 is accountable for their own actions and should know better.
Most daytime soap opera’s have storylines with infidelity, promiscuity, violence and incest at hours when most kids are up in the morning especially when they are home during summer break.
Most movies made in hollywood that make it to the theaters have sex and violence and kids see those… and only the parents should control what their kids see.
If something offends you on television you have the right to switch the channel or turn off your set or even block some of those programs from your kids.
I hope CBS decides to keep Swingtown on air and do something with the show to grow more viewers because I think it has plenty of potential.
Perhaps even making a movie out of this show would be “GROOVY” if the writers put their heads together.
I would love to see a second season of Swingtown. I watched it everyweek because it represented the lifestyle of so many and yet it still is the lifestyle of people today. It was a fun show to watch. Now with it being on Friday nights just didnt work for me but i dvr’d it and watched it when i got home. If they do bring it back and I hope they do it should be on in the fall and winter when people are home to watch it.
Maureen is right on. CBS would have faired well if Swingtown had been given a fall premiere with a late night/midweek airing time. Too bad they didn’t take the chance when they had it! Creative writing, gifted acting, kudos to those involved and what should be an award winning show! It was nice to be able to watch something completely different from the “more of the same” that we have been subjected to for quite some time now.
Well… I see there is still no sign of a verdict on whether “Swingtown” will survive! This past Friday night I was home alone with my sleeping little baby and when I sat down to enjoy some TV it hit me that “Swingtown” was not on and that there wasn’t even a Re-run for me to watch. I saw each and every episode of that show but would have even watched a re-run… can ya believe it?
Once again… “SWINGTOWN” ROCKS!!!! BRING IT BACK… BRING IT BACK PLEEEEEASE… BRING IT BACK! Screw the ratings… just give it another chance!
Glad to see angelscrest quit posting his/her rants.
I will miss Swingtown. It’s the only show I watch on TV. My wife and I get a few currently airing TV shows on DVD, but this is the only one we watch on live TV. (We watch DVDs every night)
I have accepted the fact that this series will not be renewed judging the current situation for myself. I will miss it. It’s a shame that it didn’t get a better chance.
(Reasons for the show cancellation is that the creator is working on another similar job and the DVD art doesn’t say First Season on it. I think it’s fate was decided a month or so ago when it moved to Friday night, or soon after when they saw the ratings. They are just delaying announcing it, because they aren’t 100% sure, but it’s close.)
Chad, I am inclined to agree with you that it will be cancelled, particularly about the decision being made when it moved to Fridays. It’s possible CBS could just never put it back on the schedule without any formal announcement of its fate. But I’m still holding out the tiniest little sliver of a possibility that it could be brought back.
Seriously people…specifically “Angelcrests” You are offended by the show because it’s you are worried about diseases in the world today etc. I have a clue for you, they have been around and will continue to be around despite a TV show. If you’re that offended don’t watch the show. I’m sure you have more important things to worry about like starting a campaign somewhere to ban something else you find offensive. It’s people like you that took our “land of the free” to being a “land of the free unless we decide someone’s offended”. Seriously get a life and focus your attention on something that someone may care about. Besides, like it or not, it’s more realistic than most of the reality shows on TV right now.
Ok… So I’m a child of the 70’s. I love this show. So does my wife and a few neighbors. We’ve even contemplated having a swingtown party. Of course throwing the keys to our hybrid cars in a fishbowl probably wouldn’t produce the same results as it does for Trina and Susan.
Let’s face it. Yes there was a bit of titilation at first and we all wanted to see how CBS would handle the show but after a while it settled down into a goo period piece with characters we can like.
Mad Men which we thoroughly enjoyed the first season has now settled down and OUT for us as we really are hard pressed to find a character that we can relate to.
CBS WAKE UP Give us another 13 episodes of Swingtown next year and allow it to sink or swim in a decent timeslot.
seriously, do you really think swinging caused the std epidemic? it wasn’t the irresponsible people having sex without protection? I suppose you think that AIDS was started by gay men? Just because people swing doesn’t mean they are irresponsible. Let’s take a step back and look at things logically!
Erika
p.s. you can’t get aids from a toilet seat either… just incase you wanted to throw some more irrational thought into this
ACKKKKK!!!!!!! According to WikiAnswers, Swingtown has been cancelled!! There is a petition to save the show, everybody needs to go sign it. Cut and paste to your posts after mine so this weblink won’t get lost.
http://www.youchoose.net/campaign/save_swingtown_petition
This whole nonsense blaming a show or a network for the lack of people’s decision making abilities is plain ridiculous. People need to take responsibility for their own actions and stop blaming everyone else for what ever disease they contract… or anything else that happens to them for that matter. They showed no more on Swingtown than they do on the soap operas that have been on television for years. Look at all the CSI shows.. and all the shows that promote violence… personally, I’d rather watch a show about sex. They weren’t suggesting you go out and try these things… they are merely entertaining the people who would like to watch such a show. You don’t want to watch it… you don’t like what it’s about … it’s content.. here’s a brilliant idea… CHANGE THE DARN CHANNEL!! You let us watch what we want… you watch what you want. There are more than enough channels to go around… that children are all too frequently babysat with… they can see anything at anytime. Again.. that’s the PARENT’S responsibility to teach their children according to their set of morals if so chosen! People need to just stop the drama… it goes back to that age old question… if your friends jumped off a bridge… would you? If people go out and decide to try the swinger lifestyle.. and they do so without using protection… is it your fault that they didn’t stop at the store and buy a condom? Of course it’s not… get the point?
and one more thing!!.. How about all the sexual innuendos that are in EVERY cartoon and kids movie these days?? OMG better boycott Disney and everyone else… and get rid of all forms of television!! Why is THAT ok?? Why on earth would there need to be any kind of sexual comments in cartoons and movies?!! IT’S NOT ANYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY BUT YOURS TO CHANGE THE CHANNEL AND KEEP YOUR KIDS FROM WATCHING THIS AND GOING OUT AND BEHAVING IN SUCH A MANNER! And even still… guess what? They are their own person… and will do as they please as soon as your back is turned! Control what you can… and please.. for the love of God… think about your own life… and take care of that instead of condemning others. Not everyone has the same set of morals… that’s called individulality and free will baby!
While I don’t condone many partners, I loved the show because as a teen in the 70’s, I loved seeing the fashions and hearing the music and it just took me back to that time and I loved it. My daughter was born in 76′ and I so remember the time!! Please don’t cancel the show! I couldn’t wait for Friday night and to see what was going to happen with Susan and Janet and the whole cast. I just love it and I want to see it on CBS!!! Like everyone else, put your kids to bed and enjoy an adult show. If you don’t like it, turn off the T.V. Again, please don’t cancel the show. You will be sorry. There have been many shows that have done much worse and been successful given another chance. Put it on at a good time slot and see what happens!
I am so sad! This is the best tv show in a long, long time! This is the first quality, character-driven show that I have seen in ages. Why is it that shows like Desperate Housewives, Sex in the City, and Gray’s Anatomy, where the characters are even more hedonistic – having casual sex at the drop of a hat, are top rated and a wonderful, observant, caring show like Swingtown is condemned? Is it because the characters of Swingtown are dealing with sex in a caring, thoughtful way? If the show was on HBO or Showtime, you’d all be lauding it for its daring and amazing acting.
Give Swingtown another look. We so rarely get so lucky as this.
Sucks if its cancelled, great show. Angelcrest..its a show. Just because you watch it doesnt mean youre gonna go swing and get an STD. Relax bizotch!
I love Swingtown. Please don’t cancel it. I love it for the 70’s theme and the fantasy life that we all dream about. And Angelcrest….you need to relax and perhaps get laid. Maybe you won’t be so frigid. I understand that you’re against STD’s – hey, we all are. But until you mentioned it, I never tied the two together. This show isn’t about STD’s. It’s about being honest with your feelings and acting on fantasies. Only a very small percentage of the population would even attempt something like this. It’s not real….relax. Go back to watching “Leave it to Beaver” and “Martha Stewart”. You’ll be much happier. Ha ha! Please, CBS, keep Swingtown going. I just can’t wait to see the next episode. It just started getting better!!
Well Swingtown was a fun show to watch , my wife and I enjoyed watching it . Mainly for the comaparisions to the ‘lifestyle’ then and now . There are some differences , for example condom use is almost universally mandatory . Drug use is very rare among us and the most important change I’ve notice is that we tend to be very close friends . ANother thing I noticed that is most of us focused on the music and the memories it brought back . I agree the show could have been alot better if it had originated on a cable network . Public broadcast channels have way too many restrictions on how such shows can air their subject topics and themes .
If you think Swingtown is mainly about bed hopping. Look closer. I just loved Swingtown. It originally peaked my interest that it was set in the 70’s. The swinging element was fun and naughty, but it’s not why I tuned in or stayed. I realized by the second episode that this was a true character driven drama that merely set against the eye popping era of the 70’s. Fingers crossed it comes back. I got into these character’s stories and want to see more!
The show is about the ’70’s. The characters are not real but the situations are very real. If they allow the show to go on you will most likely see the entire transformation of that era. People have open marriages, get pregnant, get high on pot brownies, get STD’s and aids, get divorced, get abortions in the back alley, etc… It is showing a timeline of real events that happened. It is awareness just a little too late for many people. Oh and by the way, all of these things still exist, the swingers, drugs, aids, teenage drinking, teachers and students, etc… Its never going to go away. I hope CBS continues to run the program it’s the best show ever and the music is groovy baby.
I thought Swingtown was tons of fun. The seventies were my glory days and I lived thru without a scratch, like many other people I know. It was FUN and we were young, and God yes, I’d do it again in a NY minute! I enjoyed the show and I followed it like it was a soap opera. I fail to see that it is any more ‘immoral’ than graphic episodes of House or any of the CSI shows that are usually intimate views into the lives of sadist that torture and rape women and children. These shows probably give real life killers inspiration and they probably take notes. Compared to what’s show on the latest CSI, Swingtown is pure as the virgin snow!
And CBS–I hear they are trying to get some CSI of there own–like its not on every channel on my cable, including TV Land, where I have a reasonable expectation that it wouldn’t be found. And if isn’t that it is Law and Order. I actually used to like Law and Order, until the Cops became these super model clones. All the Bellesarius shows have some sort of clone playing the hero cop. The first one was Elliot and except for old Horatio, they all look alike.
God I hate TV, and if I do find something to watch….it gets canceled. The real key here is that there isn’t time for an audience to get to love a show. The networks are always in a big hurry to get to the next hit…and all the work is wasted. Well, CBS S**w U. FREE MIND FREE SOUL.
I think it should at least air until all the questions are answered. It’s not fair that we don’t know what happens to everybody. It is also not fair that Jack Davenport will be in another television show that has been cancelled. Give him a chance, and everyone else. Combine Season two with the last episodes of season one and finish the show. Your problem is solved. There’s not much more you can write about anyway, except them recovering from there loss of love. It’s a decent show, if you can save it great, if you can combine it and at least answer some events that have occurred (like Roger and Susan hooking up! Holy Crap!). It would be worth it. I learned a lot from this show. And Jack Davenport is just dreamy…
I finally got a chance to read the posts on here and simply have to say that it is a television show now a “How To” video. I love the show and would suggest it to my friends. But that does not mean that I am going to use it nor suggest that anyone else use it as an example as to how one should live one’s life.
sorry for the type-o folks – What I meant to say that it is a television show “NOT” a how to video. Also to anyone that don’t like the show “you do have the option of changing the channel or simply turn of the television.
Okay, seriously Holly…just because you watch a show where they promote open sexual marriages does not mean that I or others are going to go out and do the same thing. The show is based in the 70’s and that was a decade of free sex, before STD’s and AIDS was widespread. Why would they have a show and not base it on the reality of the time it was set in. I loved the show and it will be incredibly disheartening to me if it is cancelled. Seriously, I agree with Susan, discuss it in your bible study class. Nobody forces you to watch the show, but leave the rest of us OPEN-MINDED people, just leave us alone.
Sorry on that last post, I didn’t mean to direct that to Holly, it was directed more towards angelscrest…sorry bout that Holly..
While I have enjoyed reading some of the diatrobe about the morals of the show, I would just like to say………PLEASE DON’T CANCEL IT! WE LOVE WATCHING IT!!
I just went to the CBS website and they have removed Swingtown from the list of current shows. I’m guessing that means Swingtown got the ax.
I LOVED SWINGTOWN!!!!!
My mom and dad got me watching it lol!
I did NOT watch it on Friday nights, too busy! I DID watch it Saturday or Sunday mornings on “On Demand”. Guess the viewers of it on “On Demand” or on their DVRs or TiVos did not get credit for watching it lol.
I really hope that they dont cancel it. I want to know what happens next, and my mother and I had fun talking about it.
As for comments about morals, its TV! TV is a place to escape, thats why I NEVER watch reality shows, whats the point?
Anyway, please please please!!!!! KEEP SWINGTOWN!!!!!!!
I have to say, I loved the show.. But i knew it would not last. Why u may ask, well because of the people who can not see pass the sex image.. sex sells plain and simple people, ask any network. However, If you had watched the show from the very 1st till it was pulled, you would know that the show was becoming more about the problems and consequences that followed the CHARACTER’S actions……….And less about the sex…….
This show was not forcing nor suggesting anyone to go out and have orgies..
WE ALL HAVE A MIND OF OUR OWN..
If you do not like a show or movie what do u do? I know what I do,TURN THE CHANNEL…
I am sorry to see this show go, it was one that I waited to see every week.. have not gotten into a show like that since high school.. All these reality and csi shows, give me something different…
I loved the show. As for you uptight people, its just a TV show! Not to mention your kids shouldn’t be watching it. Its a show for adults, get over yourselves.
This is my favorite new show! Find a better night to air it, this one is too good to let go. The content is original, I felt like I was reliving the 70’s all over again, minus the “swing action”. For once a show that wasn’t staged in a hospital, lawyers office or police station. Please let’s take a chance!
Get Swingtown back on the air CBS!!!
I absolutely love the show….it reflects an era of time in our country and how can that be irresponsible? I believe the motive of the show is to show how that lifestyle impacted lives and the historical events that took place in that era. I love the cast….and all my friends excitedly waited for the show each week.
LOVE LOVE LOVE Swingown! Best show I’ve ever seen on TV, let alone CBS, a dying channel in itself as far as I’m concerned. CBS’ regular line-up is such a snooze-fest, this is the ONLY show I have ever watched on that channel.
I hope Swingtown gets picked up by a cable channel, allowing it to explore the era more freely, without the “moral” restraints CBS puts on it. Not nudity, excessive sex, language, etc. Just… not so PG.
As far as kids watching it, they shouldn’t be. It’s on late for a reason – be good parents and send your kids to bed before watching a FUN, FRESH ADULT SHOW. All the more reason to put it on a cable channel – anything I’ve ever watched on Showtime or HBO is already ADULT in my head.
Anyway, don’t want to start another argument, just want to say I love the show – watched it religiously – on TiVo, cause who stays in on Friday nights? – over and over. Will buy the dvd set and the future seasons as well if there are any. The characters, story, soundtrack, and fans all deserve MORE!!! I am a retro-lovin’ fool and this show gives me goosebumps just thinking about it!
KEEP SWINGTOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I loved te show and give me a break, about std, this is coming from people who never get laid, I think we all know enough now to prevent alot and if your children are watching it then shame on you!!!!! Swingtown is great and lets just say we all are alittle interested in that is some way or another, there are alot worse shows on tv like family guy, come on the dog spanks the mother ass. Get a life miss angel crst hater, just the name alone says alot!!! BRING SWINGTOwn BACK>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I love swingtown! I missed a few episodes when it went to Friday nights, which I must say I was SUPER bummed about. I’m usually not home on Friday nights and don’t have Tivo. I don’t watch much TV but I saw this show once and was hooked! I have wathced the episodes I missed on-line and would love to see more!!! I don’t see why this is such a big deal to people. There are a lot of TV shows on the air that are worse then Swingtown. By the way, it’s just a TV show! It’s the only show I care enough about to write about or even care to watch every week. Please keep Swingtown… I LOVE IT!
Love the show… To each ones own, dont like it dont watch
I hope Swingtown comes back. I was in my teens in the 70’s so I find it nostalgic. A lot of things are humorous. I find it a show that one can just have fun watching and not get too worked up over. Bring it back!!
seems y’all scared angelcrest off or perhaps the halo fell off
loved swingtown and sad to see it go
I say if you bring back Swingtown, you should give Moonlight a fighting chance. I mean, you put it in the “death” slot the entire season, then you cancel it for (and I’m yawning as I type the name of this “show”) The Ex-List. Seems rather stupid, but hey, I have a brain so I guess the nutwork execs just don’t think about the millions of fans they will lose when they cancel Swingtown just like when they took Moonlight off. CBS has lost me as a viewer forever, I assure you. Every time we get into a show, they up and cancel it. I think CBS must have some kind of death wish since it’s repeating it’s mistakes. Oh well, CBS’s loss.
Moonlighting is for Old people!! I’m in my 30’s and I love SWINGTOWN….. Moonlighting is for great grand parents!!!!
I am 21 and I absolutely loved this show! I was sad when the season ended! I hope they bring it back!
I for one am very disapointed that Swingtown may be canceled. I mostly like the show as a period piece which I thought captured the era very well At least as I can recall it from my teen years. Rather than offend me, the subject matter intrigued me. I am not shopping for that lifestyle but its interesting to watch. It would be great if it would move to Showtime and join a few other innovative shows like Weeds and Californification. Every catch any of those Angelscrest? I suspect no. Move SW to Showtime and leave CBS to the close minded lockstep robots like Angelscrest who only want shows that have a mommy, daddy amd 2.5 kids. Singles are ok but they insist that any childless couples either be miserable or impregnated(and love it) at some point.
WELL FROM A SWINGER I THINK THE SHOW WAS GREAT AND I LOVED IT.. NOW THEY TAKE IT AWAY.. FOR THOSE THAT THINK IT CAUSED DISEASE…….THINK AGAIN.. YOU HAVE SEX. WHATS WRONG WITH IT BEING ON TELEVISION. GET A LIFE AND STOP JUDGING.. THERES ONLY ONLY JUDGE AND THATS GOD. SO STOP TRYING TO PLAY HIS PART BC YOU SUCT ASS AT IT..
ANGRY SWINGER
Ok people…. It is called entertainment!!! That lady who thinks that watching it turns everyone into STD infected sexaholics needs to just relax. It is escapism and I loved it. I WANT IT BACK!!!!! For the record I cite no recent infections with an STD after watching this show. So, one can conclude that watching a this enjoyable show actually prevents STD’s. Perhaps they channeled Angelcrest for the character Janet…
I WANT MY SWINGTOWN BACK!!!!! I WANT MY SWINGTOWN BACK!!!!PLEEEEEZ
This was a great show, as I sit hear and watch the last show again on demand. We watched every episode as did my sister and brother in law. The actors were all entertaining and the music was good. I think it was not advertized correctly and to many people were busy in the summer months to start watching the show. And for all you people who are afraid of a american swingtown epidemic..I”ll see you at the bar.
All CBS has to do to figure out what a mistake they made cancelling Moonlight is look at the ratings HBO is getting with True Blood. TB is too sexy for network TV and the romanticism of Moonlight was perfect for the Friday night stay at homes.
Swingtown is just tawdry.
I just read where Bravo has picked up the reruns of Swingtown. However, nobody has stepped forward to produce new shows. I think its a long shot that this show will be back. So sad….it could have been a great series. If you want it back, keep sending those emails to CBS!
Swingtown is one of my favorite shows. We don’t have network/cable television, so I download the shows I like online. Most of the people making negative comments on here about Swingtown are insinuating the show in all about sex – which it most certainly is not. It portrays the ups & downs of marriage and relationships. It may come as a surprise to some, swinging is not just a thing of the past. The lifestyle is very prevelant today and the couples involved have wonderful relationships. They are very open and honest with each other and are truly able to explore their fantasies and feelings together.
People in the lifestyle are very in-tune to possible consequences of their actions and take every precaution including birth control, condoms and getting tested on a regular basis. STD’s are much more likely to be lower in the lifestyle population than on a college campus. Most college kids have hormones raging, are finally free from their parents and they are ready to party. Many drink irresponsibly and experiment with drugs and sex. Often decisions about sex are made in a fog influenced by alcohol/drugs/peer pressure. The swinging community is very respectful and they make decisions based on informed consent. Swingers are not sex-crazed heathens that the general public believes them to be.
I think they show as much sex and moral degradation on afternoon soap operas as they do on swingtown. Don’t be so stupid put it back on.
please put the show back on. It was a good show. CBS is full of crap. Not only did it air in the summer but it was moved to Friday. CBS you wanted the show to do bad. Why not put it on a time slot now that is viewable to viewers now. All there is on now is CSI, LAW & ORDER, those type of shows. How about putting something a show on that is not about killing and solving a murder all the time and having a show with fun in it. I am really upset that CBS let such a good show go oh, but that’s right how many other shows that were good cancelled… BOO for CBS. That’s why I do not watch CBS or any of there programming. LOUSY Television….
TV shows don’t cause sexually transmitted infections – bacteria, fungi and viruses do. Love the show, miss the show and hope it comes back.
My husband and I would anticipate watching swingtown every Thursday night and then again when it was moved to Friday. After reading most of these post I see that most people got the wrong idea about the show to begin with. The show wasn’t all about sex it was about how couples lived there lives in the 70’s and how open and free people were to different ideas and events.
I myself did not live thru the 70’s I was an 80’s child but I think that people were more approachable then than they are now. We live in Miami and just recently moved to a new home and I still can’t tell you who lives next door to us cause no one has the same approach as I’ve heard my mother or other people that have lived thru the 70’s say that everyone had.
Everyone was more friendly and now out to bash anyone on a comment post on the internet about any tv shows.
PUT THE SHOW BACK ON!!! I MISS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I totally got into this show – I looked forward to it each week. I do wish that it was on HBO or Showtime so that they could really dive into the subject matter but I want to see what happens so PLEASE bring it back, somewhere….
all i’m saying is the show was great, i’ve found myself missing it alot..because even in fall, friday is the worst day of the week, there is nothing good on and summer is even worse, i don’t see how they cannot find a time slot for this show fall or summer. renew
Great Show – Re-run the first 13 episodes with PROMOTION then there will be enough time and money to do a second season.
I love the show. My husband and I watched every episode. Until they took it off the air. Please don’t end Swingtown. I loved the people, clothes, music, everything. Also, to angelcrest, you can get STD by sleeping with one partner, you don’t have to have more than one partner. Besides, it’s none of your business what people in america do with their lives. They have the right to choose for themselves. People are going to go to Swingtown wheither you have a show about it or not. My husband and I want to go to Swingtown. “PLEASE SAVE SWINGTOWN”!!!!!!!!!
This show is fabulous! It brought me back to the era that I grew up in. The show is much more about the relationships of its ensemble cast and their own personal growth, than the swinging 70’s. I think there is depth to the characters that we were just beginning to discover. Because of it’s move to Friday nights, my spouse and I were forced to watch the show over streaming media online on CBS’s website, since we work Fridays. I do think a midweek run time would have benefited this show. I can tell you we did not miss an episode and looked forward to this show every week. I would strongly encourage CBS to bring this show back to prime time, mid-week (if summer), or give it a try during the regular network season. I am not a swinger, nor have I ever been interested in the swinging lifestyle, and I absolutely love this show. If viewers can open their eyes and minds a bit to move past the “immorality” of it all (RIGHT….), and see this show for what it is…an expose into the issues that we all encounter in our humanity (family commitment, mid-life crisis, stale relationships, workplace flirtation, love/care/worries surrounding our teenage children, family instability, etc.), and the subsequent growth that comes with personal decisions, mistakes, trial and tribulations of life (all covered in this show), I think viewers will realize what a terrific show Swingtown really is.
I have to disagree with the idea that Swingtown was just about a bunch of people running around having sex.
I did get tired of the agruing so it may have been mentioned previously but… people then, since then, and now run around and have sex with different people and a show that actually acknowledges that people are real living humanbeings will not make that more or less true. When I first saw the previews of this show I was surprised they would air such a show… but I watched (because I have that choice) and amazingly it was about more. It was about how we deal with infidelity, how we coped with the increasing voice of the women during that era, how America changed and the revolution that took us over in so many ways. I appreciated the openess of the show that sparked several conversations between my spouse and I on how men and women deal with infidelity, heartache, and the natural curiosity of attraction.
I was impressed with how “real” it was in the sense of what the 70’s looked like, sounded like, and felt like. I too found myself saying, “Hey, I had a shirt like that!!”
I even think, if you watched them all… the main characters ended up in a place where the lifestyle was questioned. It reminded me that we have ALL… yes ALL of us have made choices in our lives that we may have stepped back from and wondered what we were thinking.
Swingtown was open about what it’s content was. I KNEW what I was going to see when I watched so I wasn’t shocked or upset… if I didn’t want to watch it I would have never turned to it. But how many times have I been watching one of the CSI episodes (one of my very favorite series) only to have to suddenly turn (because my children were around) due to some “party scene” gone bad… which was proudly laid out with the bloody body, the confused teenagers that didn’t know their friend was getting raped and murdered in the next room while they were all drunk, or the pimp and his party “bi***es”. Our entertainment is rampant with how sideways our society has gone with moral, values, expectations of ourselves and others.
TV is meant to serve as entertainment… and you choose how you are entertained.
Big Brother’s ratings have never been anything to write home about. But, if you’re the host and married to the CBS Kahuana, then I guess that makes you untouchable. I am sick to death of reality TV. And, I do not watch many TV shows, but Swingtown appealed to me. I’m a 58-year old who never swung and never will, I just enjoyed the show. Now, it’s over. I agree, if CBS/Showtime had intentions of renewing they would have done so by now. I realize that the ratings did decline during the summer, but I also remember, Seinfeld lingered in the lower tiers for a WHILE before gaining it’s following. I believe it was about 3 years before it broke through. The networks are too greedy and throw shows back in the water way too soon these days. Money, money, money and the advertising gods, who keep sticking us with the reality crap that less costly to produce. Smart on their parts, but all we get is crap. Thank goodness for the premium channels that do have some good alternatives. But, sadly, I do think any new Swingtown episodes are a pipe dream now. To you naysayers, yes…just “change the channel.”
Anyone who dices the show should remember this is HOLLYWOOD. You need to get a grip and a life. Besides if you are a responsible adult and nobody is forcing you to do anything you don’t want to it is your prerogative to do what you want, married or not as long as both partners are in agreement and everybody knows the risks. I don’t think they should move the show to showtime because not everyone has that channel. My husband and I watched the show faithfully. PLEASE BRING THE SHOW BACK!
BRING BACK SWINGTOWN. GREAT SHOW.
AS FOR angelscrest PLEASE GET A BRAIN CELL THAT WORKS. DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF TODAY DON’T KNOW THE DANGERS OUT THERE? DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT A TV SHOW WILL GET THE YOUNG TO GO AND DO MORE THAT WHAT IS ALREADY BEING DONE?
PICK ON SOMETHING ELSE.
Hey angelscrest! Guess what! My wife and I swing! It is STILL happening! You really need to get over it. Men and women have sex. Sometimes we do that with our spouses permission outside of our marriage. So far… no STDs… All that aside, Swingtown rocked! I loved it! IT was a little predictable, pat and superficial, but it is a good look at the what it’s like to start swinging.
We LOVE Swingtown!!! This is the only show that Ive actually made sure I was home to watch (YES even on fridays!) or made sure it was recorded. Were dying to see what happens next: Who’s the father of Trinas Baby??? Does Susan sleep with Roger???)
Ive read through some of these post, all I can say is WOW! I wont get into an STD argumment, but if watching a tv show makes you go have unprotected group sex, they should make a new series about american families that love paying $5.00 for a gallon of gas!!! I would like to think that the american public has just a bit more common sense than that. I never watched Moonlight so I cant give my opinion, but I gather from all the other post it was about vampires. I highly doubt too many fans of the show are now gathering around drinking each others blood…Or maybe staging a blood sucking conspiracy aimed towards the Swingtown fans…
I came on this site too see if there was anything posted about Swingtown being cancled. We loved everything about it. It was so true to the 70’s and I thought it had a really interesting storyline. Something new and different-
If CBS isnt going to continue on, I hope someone picks it up because…
WE WANT MORE SWINGTOWN!!!!!!!!
While the writing is good sometimes, marginal others, the characters and the acting are excellent…not to mention the retro topics, clothing, music, etc. GREAT show… Acting, (again) is SUPERB! KEEP Swingtown… promote it… make it smarter… and go with it! Great entertainment. I watch few shows on network t.v., but this one has helf my interest. I don’t watch on Fridays. I purchased it on itunes. Great fun… Thanks!
I absolutely love this show!!! It seems that all the good programming is always cancelled, while all the so-called “reality” shows continue to air. Although the subject of the show may be swinging, it actually takes us back to a seemingly more wholesome time. We see some of the same problems that we deal with today, i.e. fidelity, dealling with teens, pregnacy/abortion, and our country being in a war that can never be won.
Ok, you can’t blame TV for “actions” taken by dumb people who’s parents NEVER educated them on safe sex or abstinence…. Don’t try & say its like child molesters blah blah blah, I mean take a Nightmare on Elm Street for example, Freddy Krueger before the parents in that neighborhood killed him, was a child murderer. Yes there are serial killers & child molesters out there, but they don’t do it because of some show or some movie. You don’t rob a store because some rap song told ya to, and you don’t swing because of Swingtown. If you’re an adult, then you shouldn’t have any problem with it. If you’re a parent, then teach your children!! Its up to the parents and not what we hear or see on TV, in music, or in a movie. GROW UP whoever made a big deal about STD’s and all that crap. I guess pornography should be eliminated from stores, TV and the internet because it promotes SEX!!!!! Whoever wrote about the STD’s is dumber than a box of ROCKS and probably smokes them too….
BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!
WE LOVE SWINGTOWN!!! I’m an ADULT and I thought it was a GREAT show… BRING IT BACK!!!!!!! I don’t care who picks it up, but it was a great show that I ALWAYS watched, and never got an STD because of it lmfao
come on swingtown was a great show and should come back its so fun to relive the 70s
Swingtown is one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. I was totally obsessed with it. I hope a cable network will take it over and continue the 70s love. Please bring it back.
Angelcrest spends way too much time looking into things. If your a good parent, then you know what your kids are watching. This isn’t a Leave it to Beaver world, where everything is cats stuck in trees, and “jimmy fell down the well, Lassie?” With shows like Law and Order SVU, where heinous acts are described, (which is great show as well) Why so quick to judge others by what they watch? Have you nothing better to do then knock others for what they watch. Are we sinners? Does watching Dexter make me want to be a serial killer? No, its entertainment, not your cup of tea? Change the station. No one is making you watch anything. Opinions are like ass holes, every has one.
BRING BACK SWINGTOWN!!!!!
This show was great! for ALL the prude’s out there…this is what happened in the 70’s. You can not change the past! Get a life! It was a great show and my co-workers and I looked forward to talking about it during breaks at work. The cast was great too. We were upset at the change from Thurs. to Fri. and NO warning, that made it hard to keep up with. If you can have a show like “SEX AND THE CITY” on cable why not switch it to cable. Anther GREAT show. What do you think the story line was in that show…to all you prudes with an obvious boring life!
KiKi
WHAT A WHACKJOB. First of all, I have no idea what this Moonlight is; I just Googled to see if there had been any official announcement that Swingtown was cancelled. It wasn’t a great show but I did like it.
Unfortunately, I was met with “angelcrest” and his/her craziness. TV shows do not cause STDs, moron. And if you could sue a network for your HIV infection, MTV would be out of business.
Since you’ve “lived through the era”, I’m going to guess that one or more of the following is true: a) you have herpes and picked it up in the 70’s and you’re super pissed off about it; b)you were as lame then as you are now and couldn’t get laid, thereby creating a deep sense of anger and resentment (not to mention pent-up hormones) that have turned you into the weirdo you are now or c) your boyfriend/girlfriend cheated on you in the 70’s and you have never gotten over it and you never will.
Like I said, I have never watched Moonlight but I sure as hell don’t want to now. If it appeals to the likes you you, I want nothing to do with it. And…if you truly lived through the era (and can remember it), that means you’re around my mother’s age and you need to GROW UP.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE put Swingtown back on!!!! We LOVE this show & I want to see what is going to happen next!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s a shame that CBS doesnt feel that SWINGTOWN will be a hit. Sadly, the lifestyle community mostly parties on the weekends and moving it to Friday nite during the summer was suicide. We watched it several nites while being out in our regular party spots, my suggestion would be to pick a lame nite and put it on as late as possible.
Until then, those of us who “GET IT” will miss it if they choose not to bring it back. Afterall, some stupid airtime is given to loosing football teams season after season by certain networks…the ADULT lifestyle is alive and well and SAFE for the players in our community who respect the rules of engagement
Loved the show! I was really looking forward to another season of it. I think CBS should give it another shot, maybe a different day and time slot would help and start it in the fall like most new shows Duh!
Bring back swingtown. It is fun. light and the characters are all in places I want to find out what happens next…
wow- first of all- I can’t believe that a thread on Swingtown could contain negative posts. I just came here to show some support for the show because i recently became a fan via an FX marathon.
If you think that this show is offensive enough to take time out of your day to look up threads about it- you’re nuts.
This show is an entertaining, fun representation of a time where the world was changing and people were experimenting with all traditional roles. Something I appreciate as a woman. If the 70s weren’t as radical, everything would be different – something which is often brought up within the plot-lines.
Aside from the fact that you’d have to have an enormous stick up your ass to be offended by the show, you would also have to be the most boring person alive to be content with the rest of what cbs has to offer. Reality tv shows and predictable crime dramas suck the life out of my tv set and a little variety would be much appreciated.
And now for the begging:
Don’t stop the show! I need to know what’s going to happen with Susan and Roger!! Please- won’t someone pick this show up!!!
Everyone saying that Swingtown is bad or causes STD’s. That is just ridiculous. Being an unprotected hoe bag causes STD’s, not TV. This show was great. It was just for a more mature audience. I thought moving it to Friday would help. Less youngsters home… But it didn’t obviously. I wish they would bring it back. It’s a great show!
I think Swingtown was one of the best network series to ever be on television. The writing and the acting was amazing. People have been saying that if you listen to certain music, or if you watch certain movies/shows that it will cause you to act in some insane way. Books, movies, television, or music do not cause people to behave badly. Everything is a choice. I really hope that CBS reconsiders canceling Swingtown, or I hope that another network decides to air the program. I’m dying to know what happens to everyone!
If we are saying that real life imitates art and therefore cancelation of Swingtown is consequently a good move, then with that analogy we must cancel all news programs as they depict life in its truest form and are therefore much more detremental to viewers. Just ask the Chinese.
i thonk that this show was fantastically well done and yes although thaty phase of life did cause some problems so did every other generation
the fact is that is how life was at that time and i find the show both enjoyable and fact based
people need to stop putting so much time into complaining about the bad parts of media and just ENJOY it is , afterall, ENTERTAINMENT
angelscrest:
you said to Susan,
“Go ahead: knock yourself out, but don’t come crying to me when you are infected with a long list of diseases that could have been avoided if you had acted like a civilized person.”
I realize that everyone is intitled to the own opinion and, Susans was that she liked the show and hoped that it would return to the air. I too like the show, and like many others I hope the show finds a network that will air it.
However, just because we like a show that touches on things that arn’t up to your morals does not mean we are all going to walk away with a STD. I watch True Blood on HBO but does that mean I’m going to run out and join a Vampire coven and start drinking blood….NO!!
There is such a thing as an off button on your TV try using it the next time you don’t like something on it or better yet if your precious little mind can’t handle the content on TV than maybe you should set up the parental blocker so you don’t get anything above a PG rating, thats what I do for my kids.
As for everbody’s beloved Moonlight show watch True Blood now that’s a great Vampire show it’s on HBO @ 9pm on Sunday’s but it’s not for the normal CBS crowd it has a pulse!!
It just seems to me that anything remotely edgy, intelligent, or interesting–outside of crime dramas and reality-based game shows–have little chance on CBS. Frankly, it’s a huge SHOCK to me that they own Showtime, the network some of the BEST shows EVER on cable television call home. From “The L Word” to “Tudors” to “Dexter” to “Secret Diary of a Call Girl” to “Californication” to “Brotherhood” to “This American Life” to “Weeds” to the highly anticipated upcoming “United States of Tara,” the list just goes on and on and on and on. I mean, Showtime recently stole the 31-year-old “Inside the NFL” show from HBO!
It just seems to me that where Showtime is ready and willing to take chances–and to reap the rewards–CBS is stuck in one gear: CSI and Survivor, or shows of that ilk. Honestly, I can’t say that I’m not a fan of either the CSI shows or of Survivor, but I’d like something else. CSI is jut on so often that it seems to me likely to wear out its welcome at some point, especially with the radical changes to the cast of the original “Las Vegas” version of the show. What’s more, Swingtown was an intelligent, funny, sensitive, cutting-edge show that could have had serious legs, especially with such a great cast that had developed such a fantastic chemistry with one another. Instead, it seems that Swingtown will go the way of People’s-Choice-Award-winners “Moonlight” and “The Class,” the latter being a laugh-out-loud comedy that literally had me in stitches at least half a dozen times per week! I just don’t understand CBS’ aversion to running such shows, especially considering that they went ahead and cut episodes of Dexter to re-run on CBS both as a filler and as a lead-in to the new season as they apparently tried to garner new viewers for that Showtime drama. I mean, if you can run “Dexter,” they why can’t you give Swingtown a chance to gain some traction. I know that my wife and I both told friends and family about the show and had made several converts. Had CBS not put the show in the Thursday timeslot to begin with (running against powerhouse shows that already had audiences carrying over from other powerhouse shows like Gray’s Anatomy) and then moved it to Friday, trading out Flashpoint (a decent show, but another crime drama that has yet to prove itself but seems not to have been cancelled as it’s still on their website), Swingtown might have had a chance.
For people like me, who were children during that time, it was nice to see a show that really gave you a somewhat honest glimpse into the lives of suburban American life at a time that is historically relevant to the time we’re now in–a time of soul-searching, deep-seeded dissatisfaction with the sitting President and his political party, sexual promiscuity by our youth who no longer fear the threat of HIV yet are terribly ill-equipped with good knowledge about the risks that still remain because we refuse to TEACH them and instead PREACH to them about abstinence-only, a pipe dream at best in which most parents have little or no faith (despite the “abstinence-only” movement’s faith-based morality). This show was nostalgic, and the music alone was enough to stir old memories of where I was when I heard a song or reminding me of how I would play my mom’s vinyl albums ad infinitum.
Honestly, for those of you who cry about how this show was “irresponsible” and how it “ignored how such promiscuity was responsible for the spread of so many STDs,” including, supposedly, HIV and AIDS, you really should take another look at the show and its message. The people in this show demonstrated responsibility by their demonstrated use of condoms when engaging in promiscuous acts. What’s more, there were voices that provided counterpoint messages to what seemed to be the prevailing “ethic” of the show. The fact is, this show was a fairly good mirror of the society of the time in the confused sexual expression of its characters: there were “swingers” but not “cheaters” because the couples promoted total honesty and open communication in their marriage–something today’s marriages could certainly use, what with a skyrocketing divorce rate, which, by the way, happens to be at something near 50% among Evangelical Republicans, who ironically are the ones who complain most about the “morals” of a show like this–there were adolescents who were exploring their sexual nature responsibly and there were pre-adolescents who were taking those first fumbling steps, but no matter who they were they talked openly about their relationships and were able to confide in at least one parent in almost every case so that they had some kind of guidance and advice to look to rather than a complete avoidance of the subject. I ask you, which is worse? Would you rather have the kind of social dynamic we have today where high school and college kids think that they’re still virgins if they do anal and who engage in both oral and anal sex without protection because they think that if they can’t get pregnant that they’re “safe,” despite the fact that STDs are easily transmitted through any exchange of bodily fluids? Or, would you rather your kids understood that any sexual act was a loss of one’s innocence (their virginity, if you will) and that prophylactic measures are necessary for EVERY kind of sexual act if one is to protect themselves from disease. Maybe because we have it the way we do we can explain the fact that STDs among high-school and junior-high-school aged kids is at an all-time high.
Waving the flag of a false morality at this show is not only a gross misunderstanding of where this show was coming from, but it’s doing a disservice to all of us when you consider that because of the positions the “majority” takes with regard to sex education and to honest, open discussion of the ramifications of the sex act in any of its forms has dug us into a hole that will take years to fill. It’s sad, really, that we have to live in a society where consenting, intelligent, informed adults can’t make a programming choice because some people just couldn’t change the channel. Or, perhaps you did change the channel, maybe never tuning-in in the first place. Maybe you just made your judgments based on what you heard or what you believed the show to be without ever watching a single minute of it. I usually find that when I probe further, this latter situation is almost always the case. It just seems that the loudest voices against something like this, those who cry foul based on their “moral compass,” have never even seen or understood that which they condemn.
To me, that’s the saddest thing of all about our society. Not only can’t we talk rationally to one another about such topics, but when it comes right down to it we tend to listen to a bunch of so-called “moralists” who actually have little to no idea about which they speak. I can only hope that at some point this will change along with the direction of our government. Maybe one message sent during this last election had nothing to do with fears about our economy or the unpopularity of an ill-conceived war; perhaps this last election was also, in part, a rejection of faith-based government and a reaffirmation by voters that there should always be an indestructible wall between the church and the state. Otherwise, we would find that we have very little difference and very much in common with the theocracies we seek to dismantle in the middle-east. I don’t know, but I’m definitely tired of having theocrats deciding what the rest of us can and cannot watch on our televisions or listen to on our iPods. That much I know for certain.
Good luck, CBS. If you keep making decisions as you are currently, you’ll be on your way to canceling some of the most popular new shows around, all within an amazingly short timeframe. Why, it seems like only yesterday that I mourned the loss of “The Class” and swore never to watch another thing on CBS, only to have them redeem themselves with a smart show like “Swingtown” and then watch that, too, disappear into the ether with their programmers’ common sense. I’m really sorry for you, but I’m glad that Showtime execs do not seem to suffer the same affliction.
In 1976 I was a young woman, naive, ignorant and new to the suburbs of a major american city, Swingtown is the most accurate portrayal thus far (and even that has a way to go) Truth be told, then, I was Janet, now I would be thought of as Trina, but 33 years changes a person, it’s called LIFE/
To the very first poster, grow up and much much more importantly GET AN EDUCATION. We the young adults of the 1970’s and all baby boomers did not create every tragedy in the world today. STD’s did not come from our more open views on sexuality. My only regret is that I married my high school boyfriend, ONLY because I was pregnant, and now at 54 have a 37 year old son. That’s how I became a closed minded protectionist like Janet. I grew, got an education, opened my mind and now am a successful competent woman. I dumped the first boyfrend who merely knocked me up and after 10 years found a real man, a partner, an equal.
What none of you “blame the boomers” crowd gets is that we broke all the barriers that allow all of you to be free today. So the hell with all of you and your right wing republican ignorant AMERICAN ideals. You are Puritans and the very reason the first amendment was created. Now you choose to abuse it. You have no idea what it was like to be a second class citizen. I would have rather been a black man pre civil war than a woman pre 1968.
How dare any of you criticize us? You the generation of conform to be safe but screw the rest of the world. You are the generation that created the Neo Cons’ that caused us the American people to be where we are today. You should have left it in our hands
Give SWINGTOWN a second chance. Hire some writers who lived it. Yes, I’m available, but so are the largest segment of the Amerian Demographic…CBS wake up, you are the network of us 50plus crowd, act like it or go out of business!
Has anyone tried to contact CBS, no matter what you do, they refer you to their current “HITS” mindless drek that they think we, who they think are the STUPID american public will follow their will,,,, hey you include “VICTORIA”S SECRET” Men over 12 are not the only demo you need to please.
This is the network that fired Meredith Viera bc she acted like
A MOTHER
HORRORS these idiots,
I’ve just entered the parental blocks so CBS can’t be shown on my TV”S now it’s their with FOX NEWS aka PRAVDA
Y
That’s there not their, sorry, post stroke victim, have a problem with spelling, but still belong to MENSA
I was really hoping another season would come back. Yes I agree it was alittle much for regular tv and agree with it being put on showtime or HBO but I would love to see it come back. I wanted to know what happened with the pregnant one. Also see what happened between susan and her best friends husband.. Maybe they should make it an internet show.. I would tune in every week to watch..
I love, love Swingtown. I was so disappointed to see that it is cancelled. =o( I truely hope it gets a second chance. For the people getting so upset (angelscrest) HELLO, it’s just a TV show. GOOOOOOOO SWINGTOWN!!!!!!
I love love Loved the show. I am soo pissed that it will not be on again. I want a second chance for the show. I could not wait to see what was going to happen next. Please give it another chance.
Sat it aint so my family loves loves this this show. I even burnt them on dvd . Come on here, I mean this stuff really happen’s , even right now.
I love Swingtown and enjoyed the 70’s flashback – wish they’d bring it back if only to settle what is left hanging out there –
To Angelscrest at the top of this blog, are you kidding? This is history at it’s best – don’t stick your head in the sand. I suppose we shouldn’t ever watch documentaries either?
We loved the show!!..For the ones that are so over dramatic about this show. You need to get life and look out your front door. It is going on all around you. Im speaking for myself and my man..we are in this lifestyle and enjoy every bit of it. We have meet great friends with benefits. We have no diseases and they do not either. People now days are more careful with swinging and just dont jump in the bed with any TOM,DICK or HARRIETT.
So get a life and let us enjoy something we enjoy doing. If you want to COMPLAIN about some of these shows on the tube now days. Look at all the violence the shows have. Now go do something about that!!!
@Angelcrest: Love the show. MORE SEX PLEASE. If you don’t want to have sex then don’t but don’t stop those of us who do. Get in a relationship and stay there then you have nothing to worry about. Don’t worry about us we will be just fine.
angelcrest you are a whore! do not watch it you filthy nasty slut!
I really enjoyed Swingtown and hope it gets picked up somewhere. It was refreshing to watch a show that could follow the conflicts people experienced because of the sexual revolution instead of using a knee-jerk OMG avoidance response.
One thing I hope future episodes handle is the fact that responsible swingers were careful of their own health and the health of their partners.
Swingtown was quite honest about the conflicts inherent in possible sexual relationships. The idiocy of expecting kids to be responsible about having sex if they’re not allowed to learn about it is one indication that we need shows that show such conflicts. If people can’t view such conflicts, they are unlikely to give any thought to the possibilities until they encounter such opportunities/temptations themselves. Among other things, Swingtown prompts people to think about the conflicts before they face them with hormones fully engaged.
The bottom line, in my view, is that Swingtown was an excellent start in exploring human relationships and was entertaining. I hope it continues.
It seems like all of the “good” shows (like Moonlight & Swingtown)are getting canceled…Men In Trees and Friday Night Lights were also different types of shows than what is on the networks now and those shows got canceled too…how many reality shows can they come up with…I think Survivor, The Big Race and Big Brother have had their day…lol oh well just less time I that have to spend watching TV and less TV ads I have to suffer thru and maybe now I’ll have time to fix my computer.
Here’s a thought. If you liked Swingtown and would like to send a message to the executives who want shows that pay their way, you can tell them loud and clear. Swingtown will be released to DVD on December 9th. Buy it. If the executives see a paying market for the show, they’ll be more inclined to produce more shows that will continue to sell. Voting with your wallet is a good way to get them to notice.
angelscrest as you can read I don’t think there is anyone on here who agrees with you including myself. You have a closed up mind and have been brainwashed by society to only accept one way of living. People who swing are probably more careful than the general population and get tested regularly.
I love this show and am dissipointed that it may be cancelled. I do agree that showcase or HBO would probably be more appropriate audience and that way it could be less sensored as well
Angelscrest get a life and get off this site.
I found this site while searching to find out whether the series “Swingtown” had been canceled or not..i read the first post and was laughing when i read from angelscrest…as i read further i read more of her posts and have learned to “read” her mentality like a book (or in this case thread)
her story is this..Hardened bitter woman whose lacking in her own life (sexual, social or otherwise, whose to say for sure) comes on this board to slam a TV show threatened for cancellation by spewing her word vomit about the “morality” of a show that’s fictitious but also mirrored on actual goings on of a sub culture of the past. She’s obviously NOT viewed the show…Later, as i read more from her (she was like watching a car accident,i just couldn’t stop reading her!) I learned that the REAL reason she was so upset by Swingtown is because she felt it was the culprit in her own precious show being canceled…”Moonlight” or whatever it’s name was she felt was cast aside to make room for the new show swingtown…i’ve not seen the show myself (i rarely watch cbs till swingtown) so i took it upon myself to read up on it to see what her “Hub bub” was..In reading the synopsis i understand the story to be about vampires. emphasis is placed on the main character, a vampire who two decades ago saved a young child from his wife who had kidnapped her..he then goes thru time watching over her as she grows to ensure her safety. He then falls in love with the now grown child and attempts to pursue a romantic relationship, but only after having discovered his kidnapper ex wife still exists..by way of a shower scene together.
hmm..seems like a pretty sex filled type show to me…except this time it’s some dirty old man trapped in a young man’s body who falls in love with a child he once protected and seemingly nurtured in a father figure type way, but is damned to walk the earth as the undead and is essentially a satanic figure in some folklores of vampire belief…
hmm says VOLUMES for her level of entertainment..hey sister, to each her own, whatever turns you on honey..watch what you want…miss it and bitch when it’s canceled, but don’t judge others over what they want to watch huh? we all have our guilty pleasures, we just don’t share the same opinions is all…one would surely construe your tastes for a bit on the “odd” side when the plot is broken down. so go read some ann rice..watch interview with the vampire or bram stoker’s dracula if you’re into that sort of thing..but get off your pedestal girl..let it be!
and now to my original reason for posting..
DON’T CANCEL SWINGTOWN..i became addicted to it, it brings me back to my young childhood, the characters are charming and full of chemistry, the stories are believable and not intelligence insulting..thought provoking, innovative, shocking, entertaining! what dramatic tv should be!
More like cheat town, more than swingtown! Most people in the lifestyle are clean and sexy people with a open mind. We enjoyed the show, hope they bring it back.
The problem with Swingtown was that they hyped it up to be this sexy, provacative show and it ended up being not so much about the sex. America wants sex (contrary to what posters on this forum have said) When people realized it wasn’t about sex, and more about the confusion that a mid life crisis will bring, they forgot about it. I am a Swingtown fan, however most of the time i tuned in with my fingers crossed thinking “maybe this time is when they turn things up” but they never did. I caught Swingtown on Bravo a couple of months ago….does anyone know if they picked it up?
THUMP, THUMP…………
“Who’s there”?
ANGEL
“Angel who”.
Angel doesn’t like Swingtown so anyone who does is not only immoral but wrong.
My husband and I use to watch Swingtown. We looked forward to Friday nights that was our show every Friday, We want the show to come back.
Regina
We really enjoyed the show and hope it comes back. It would be much better if it was on showtime and more adult oriented. Great storyline and actors!
Swingtown had interesting characters, great character development, good acting, and interesting plot lines. What more could you want. I looked forward to Friday nights and never missed an episode. Bring it back!
Angelcrest,
If you actually watched the show, you would find that you have a lot in common with Janet. Maybe you should relax, and have a pot brownie. It sure helped Janet loosen up. For crying out loud…this stuff actually happened in the 70’s. So CBS airing this show doesn’t make anyone more amorous than they already are. The story and characters are very well done, and should definitely return for another season. Save the “Bible Thumping” for church. Don’t be so concerned about every one elses sexuality. Let them worry about themselves. If people want to have sex with a bunch of people, that’s their choice. God gave us free will after all. Judge not, lest the be judged yourself. AMEN
Bring back the show!!!
I think it was a cool show, I liked It and watched every week. Whats the differnt between watching it and going out and doing. Yea STD is a big facture but if you educate yourself and Your child on the fact of it all you will be the one of the up to date moms. Remember it is 2008 NOT 1956….. I think every young adult should be smart in the way of drugs and sex, It is better to come from you then someone on the street. This way your child respects you enoungh to come to you before the fact…..
PLEASE BRING THE SHOW BACK WE LOVE IT AT MU JOB WE HAVE SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT ON MONDAY MORNINGS……..,
Again CBS starts a show, I get involved watching…and might I say enjoyed….then again pulls it off the air…..lets see Jericho, Moonlight, now Swingtown…..to be honest I won’t watch another show and invest my time on CBS anymore….so tired of “Catch and Release” CBS!
I happened to like the show because it was interesting to see what will become of the characters and how their lives will end up. Will Roger and Susan get together? Will the teacher and the daughter make it? Will Tom and Trina stop swinging and become a family? Will the sons girlfriend come back? I think that most of you are angry because they are letting out the secrets that we Americans consider to be taboo. We find the body to be some disgusting thing and the truth is that whether you like it or not it is happening. It does not matter if there is a show about it or not. True it has sparked some curiosity in some people, this does not mean everyone is going to become a swinger. “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” the movie version, if you watch it closely has a key party where every who puts their key in a fishbowl. Are we going to stop our children from watching the Grinch, which is a great holiday favorite? Almost every movie has some sort of sexual content so are we now going to tell directors to make sure every movie is clean. And furthermore, men and women cheat on each other daily most sleeping with someone they met at a bar or someone they really do not know much about would that not cause an STD outbreak. Also, what about all the single people in the world are we now going to tell them they need to find someone, even though we are the land of the free, because sleeping around will cause an outbreak of STDs. If people are getting their yearly exam then we should not have to worry about an STD outbreak no matter how many partners they have. I do not think it should be taken off the air just maybe played later at night. The mere thought of the word sex embarrasses us and to know there is a show about it, not just regular sex but with multiple partners, is a BIG American NO, NO. Bottom line swinging is happening whether you like it or not. It would be a shame to cancel the show and leaving viewers with so many unanswered questions.
I absolutely love Swingtown and can honestly say it is one of my favorite shows(and I watch a lot of television). I enjoyed the plots and the twists that happened and it was just plain enjoyable to watch. For people posting things about STD’s…this shows plot is in the ’70’s when this kind of thing did occur…it is documented people! We have all learned the how tos on birth control as well as STD contoll….we’re in the 21st century! No, I don’t agree with being a swinger, but is a enjoyable show to watch…PERIOD. I am completely disappointed to hear that it looks as though it is cancelled, I was definetly lookng forward to many more seasons. I hate it when a show that could absolutely do more is cancelled ahead of its prime. How sad. I am absolutely rooting for this show and hope to see new episodes.
Holy Cow…I’ve been away for a while indulging in some CONSENTUAL adult sex with various men AND women. While I agree that this country is based on free speech, I will not stand idly by when people attack the lifestyle we choose.
Those of us who have been involved in the lifestyle for many years understand what responsibility is when it comes to STD’s and have safer sex than your own teenagers who are hooking up with both girls AND boys. The folks we are involved with have more respect for communicable diseases and act accordingly. We never play without protection and everyone who is in the lifestyle of swinging will agree with me. So how dare you accuse us of spreading STD’s and the like? If you have ever had unprotected sex then you have contributed to the spread as well.
Do no attack something you have no clue about, stick with your bible beating classes and keep your sermons to yourself.
BRING THE SHOW BACK BUT PUT IT ON F/X so that more angles can be touched upon without the majority of people out there (that have no clue about swinging and relationshipS) having a heart attack and attacking other people’s morals.
Additionally, Why can’t we as swingers have the same respect as lesbians and gays? Why are they more readily accepted that swingers?
There are shows about gays and lesbians on TV every single day and there isn’t as much as an uproar as there has been about Swingtown. Why? Because society even though they accept gay marriages and men kissing on tv can not accept what goes on behind closed doors when it comes to swinging. Why?
Relationships with our spouses are much stronger than most other married people out there that do not swing. Why? Because there is a level of trust, openness and closeness that will never be equaled.
I LOVED this show – and I also think it should have gone straight to Showtime or HBO – way tooo racy for CBS and the general American population – like some of the people who posted here. I like how the show portrayed the struggles women had during this era. I really liked how they depicted the differences and similarities between women like Janet, Susan and Trina. So sad to see it go…..
i agree ….angecrest…you’re an idiot!!
swingtown is a good show, entertaining, i like the characters & the storylines
& that’s what a tv show should be, entertaining! i hope it comes back, they can’t leave us hanging!!! LOL!!
I just really liked the show and am really upset that the story will not go on!
I also think that CBS doesn’t understand that people don’t always have time for tv in their busy lives so ratings don’t always judge best. I always catch up on the series I like after the fact on netflix or I buy the DVD’s.
Angelcrest you truly are a moron. We may as well end every show that on tv if we are to give what you say merit. Having a show about a period of time is not praising it, it is showing the ups and downs of that time and there were good thigs happening in the 70’s also. Narrow minded people often only see one side.
Angelscrest, you obviously never watched the show..or didn’t watch every episode. I was so totally NOT going to watch this crap. From the moment I saw the first ad, I said no way in hell was I going to allow this trash into my home.
Boy, am I glad I was bored and watched it anyways.. The show was 99.9% NOT what you think it was. Which goes to prove that you didn’t watch it. It was totally about the relationships of these people. The sex part was very very minimal. And what, CBS or any network is bad if they show what actually happened??? Guess no more WWII movies. History channel should be taken off the air. How dare they show people getting killed and shot down and gassed.
History is history. Just because YOU don’t like the outcome or what happened because of it, doesn’t give you the right, or anyone the right, to say it should not be shown. But again, I digress…that is NOT what the show was all about.
I found it to be a great show. And I hope that someone gets the hint that it really does have a large fan base. Hell, everyone I know watched it and loved it. And that is many hundreds of people… I take that back, my minister didn’t like it at all…but then he at least admits to only seeing the first two episodes. He also hated Joan of Arcadia, which I really enjoyed.
You are free to have your opinion, and I fought for the right of you to express it in this country… but you don’t have the right to decide for me what I watch and you simply wrong about the show. Catch it on Bravo, as they play it entirely in marathons. You will see that sex is less than 1% of any episode. It’s simply about relationships and the interaction of 3 main couples and their kids in the 70’s.
Greg
The problem with ratings, is who the hell is doing it? I know literally many 100’s of people. Personally. In my work and personal life. I have several large websites, and on a couple there are many 1000’s of members. NONE of them are ratings families. NONE!!!! We have asked this question many times when great shows get the ax and they say ratings were the cause. If little ole me, can find 3000 random people from all over the USA to all agree they liked a show but none of them are used to determine if the show is good or not….what the hell does that tell you about ratings.
Then again, Stargate Atlantis has a HUGE following. 1000’s of websites dedicated to it and its stars and the stories of it….yet they are axing it. It’s done. gone. Not even farmed out for others….though I know several fan groups are working hard to get it on some other network.. All this because they say ratings have dropped…but from everything I have read and seen in online petitions, the ratings are higher than ever and the stories this season have gotten soooo much better. I can’t believe how much fuller the stories have gotten and the character development has really gotten strong this year…and they are killing it.
I have already decided that if I find a show that I really enjoy, it will be canceled.
One HUGE problem with ratings systems available today..is that they do NOT take into consideration TIVO and DVR’s. If you are not watching a show as it airs, it is counted against that show. That is too bad…because if I were a Nielson family, my watching would mean nothing.. I DVR 90% of the shows I watch so that I can skip the commercials.. So while something is on that I love, it is recorded. I watch, at the time, something that I have already recorded. Then later, I watch the show I wanted to watch. Sometimes this is also because I work some nights… Thus, CAN’T watch live. I also watch some shows that conflict with other shows on at same time. But I watch them both. Just not LIVE. Until recorded shows are counted in ratings numbers, the system will be even more flawed than it ever was before.
Greg
Personally, I liked Swingtown and I honestly don’t know why. I would not be okay with witnessing my husband sleeping with another woman nor would I be okay with being one of many wives married to the same man (as in BigLove). But there is something so intriguing about these shows that make me want to watch them.
Swingtown is not just a show about couples sleeping around with eachother at all, theres that deeper meaning within it. The one that shows viewers that sometimes people settle and that no one is ever really satisfied in life.
I don’t beleive that any show can persuade any individual to act outside of thier own moral beings. And if they do it is by their own choice, so be it. Angelcrest you have alot of concerns regarding information you have yet to complete the research on, maybe you should watch these movies: “The Constant Gardener”, “Last King of Scotland” and “Kids” they may teach you a thing or two about STD’s, human stupidity and genocide. P.S. I much prefer Jason Dohring’s character in Veronica Mars. Everyone should know by now, that all the good shows get cancelled.
Have many of you lost your minds with regard that this is “only a tv show”!! First, get a grip. Second, for those of us who are in our 40’s and remember coming of age when “Swingtown” was actually happening and we were watching that part of society do their thing, we understand! I was in my teens when swinging was the fad. I babysitted for three couples who would spend “special”time together while I watched their little kids — I was 15/16 at the time. It was sort of weird at the time because I knew what the adults were doing. There were a couple of times that the parents came home and asked that I stay all night. I looked out the window and saw their friends standing by their cars in the driveway and they were all making out. So, that’s when I knew what was happening and I understood. As a young girl who was sexually evolving at that time, seeing all that was happening made a definite impact on me. It never has prompted me to have extra-maritial affairs as an adult woman who has been married for almost 22 years. But, seeing Swingtown has brought back the memories of knowing people who lived that life years ago. And I say, “Good for them!!” I hope they had a great time then and have no regrets!
I for one love this show and want to see new episodes! I think that it is stupid for people to coment on here about how the show is such a bad influence. First off if you dont like the show then why are you tuning in to watch it? It is our right to watch what we want to. Not everyone is the same as you and some people are not as close minded. Second thing if we are talking about kids watching, isnt this why we have the little tv rating box before the show. If your kids are watching this and you dont want them to then you should be looking at your parenting skills and not attacking CBS. Just because you choose to live an uptight lifesytle dont push your views on the rest on us. Most likely you did not even watch the show and are just looking for something to bitch about. This was a really good show with a good story line and actors/actress.
I really loved the show. I was hoping that it was returning another season.
It’s sad to see the networks set a show on one night and midway through the season change the night again. Swingtown for good or bad offered something different. For those who are offended …don’t watch. For us who really enjoyed the show bring it back on one night and stick with it. How can many of the new shows make it when you can’t keep up when it’s on, which night. Bring the show back!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok People that have unsafe sex are the ones that spead Aids not swingers. What do you say to all the people dating do you think they don’t spead aids and other things. This show is only a show not real life some people really need a life and have to stop trying to save the world. My wife and I love this show and hope it does come back on in 2009. We would get showtime or HBO in a min if it was on and I think a lot of others would also.
I was a fan of the show and very disappointed that is will not air. I thought it was different and if you didn’t like the content then don’t watch it. Please bring back the show!
Bring back the show PERIOD! If it means sending it to Showtime then do it. It was a fresh breath of air; great music, interesting story lines, just a fresh breath with a new twist. Listen to your viewers CBS! Where there is interest there is money, period!
YESSSSSSSS! Bring back this show! I love the story line. And the soundtrack is the best. I was a boy in the 70’s and this show feels real to me, with the attitudes of the characters, and the feel of the plot and theme. FOR ALL OF YOU WHO BELIEVE THAT THE SWINGING SCENES ARE OFFENSIVE AND MAY PROMOTE UNSAFE SEX, TURN THE CHANNEL AND/OR TEACH YOUR KIDS ABOUT SAFE SEX. THAT IS YOUR JOB, NOT THE NETWORKS.
Come on America!, start taking some personal responsibility and quit putting the blame on others.
I am very disappointed that they are taking the show off the air. I did enjoy it and looked forward to it being on. They don’t show all that many interesting shows on television (prime time) anymore, and this one I did fully enjoy. I hope they do reconsider their decision and put it back on.
Thi show gave me something to watch in the summer when the rest of my shows are off. I really got into is also and was looking foward to it coming back on. With it not I guess its back t the old re-runs!!!! WooHoo!!!!
They really need to reconsider and bring it back!!!
I thik the cbs people dont know what a good show is because i’m so sick of these reality shows this was such a great tv show i think we should be able to have another season the finale left us hanging i think we deserve more than what we got.what happened to trinas pregnancy and what happen to roger and susan in the hotel room and did bruce and his coworker hook up .and what will janet think when she finds out her husband has the hots for susan ,my girls and i had started watching the show from day one they just love the music and the clothes .they know know what the 70’s era was about ,dont leave us hanging bring back swingtown.
Anglecrest, STFU you are a complete idiot!!! Your epic failure of posting is the only reason I even put a reply. Too bad about the show, I just started to get into it through the DVD’s. CBS should really think about doing a better job promoting shows before cancelling them and putting on some unwatchable reality TV show geared towards morons like Anglecrest. Seriously who is going to sit home on friday night in summer. I would have DVRed it if I even heard of it.
Get off your high horses…sex is fun! It’s not the dirty, naughty thing you were raised to think. Besides…there is such a thing as being responsible and practicing safe sex. Get a clue!
I am so bummed that SWINGTOWN is canceled..I been sitting here just waiting to see what happens next..just waiting for the new season to begin…This show was awesome and I looked forward to watching it every week and if something happened where I couldnt watch it that night I would watch it online…I know there are more fans out there like me…if JERICHO got brought back {and too me that show didnt catch my attention at all may I say} they need to bring SWINGTOWN BACK!!! There is not a show out there now that I watch consistanly every week..I will watch reruns of the good old shows tho..but I really was lookin forward to another season. and angelcrest for real get a life and loosen up you might enjoy yourself some.
If you dont agree with the show you dont have to watch.
Thats whats wrong with this country some of you fucking pricks think you know whats best for all. Mind your own buisness fuck out of mine and watch your kids go to shit because of your bullshit judgemental ways.
FUCK U
This was the best show on TV last summer, and I’m so disappointed that it’s gone. I really loved and looked forward to watching this every week; seeing the characters develop and the storylines unfold. It was all at once interesting, fascinating, titilating, and a little historical. To “AngelsCrest” – come on out of the bubble, sister. This country is built on free speech. If you don’t like the program, change the friggin’ channel. But save your sermon for Sunday service.
I loved the show I do feel CBS did promote the show as much as they could may-be if they did they would of got better ratings. I think they should bring it back.
I LOVED the show and so did my husband. I think it would be great to move it to Showtime. The writers could do more with it. If people don’t like it they don’t have to watch it. To those who said CBS was irresponsible for airing a program that “advocates the kind of behavior that caused the STD epodemic” we are all ADULTS. We can choose to live or not live that kind of lifestyle. That is the wonderful thing about choice. A person can decide for themselves which side of the “fence” they would like to be on based on their own values and morals. They can handle the difference between reality and TV.
I find it amazing that angelcrest spends so much time visiting a site about a show she “hates”. Me thinks she has a little more interest in the subject and doesn’t quite know how to let it show. That said, I will be buying the season on dvd, as I found it totally entertaining and could have been even more exotic. Ther fact that the producers made the characters likeable and everyday people rather than rich phonies made it for me. I was only little in that time, but wish with all my heart that we were wrapped a little less tightly now as then. Free sex didn’t cause disease, as syph and Gon were quite the rage back in the 40’s. Little before the 70’s don’t you think? Bible doesn’t say you can’t share your wife or hubby…look at Solomon, David and Abraham. It says don’t lie about it.
CBS blew it big time cancelling it, but it’s not the first time they screwed up, is it? Look who’s in charge? Great acting, great producing..great show. Nice to see there’s still a first amendment in the constitution here.
I totally loved this show it was fun and totally easy to get into. And if you have a moral issue with a show then my dear, you have issues. Yes this lifestyle can at times have complications but maybe if at the time they had a show to tell you the real deal and educate people on those dangers then maybe it would have been safer. It’s people like you that stay blind folded to the issues of the past instead of accepting it and learning from it. You my friend are what they call a party pooper!!! So is shotime gonna take in the show cause it left my herpes, and other stuff itching for more.
Boo CBS!!!! This was a fun show to watch, different from the rest of the crap on the air… What a bummer!
I can’t believe they canceled this show. Showtime or HBO need to pick it up. What a great show it was, it was more than just sex. It dealt with many issues that we deal with every day, best friends, first crushes, puberty, learning new things. What a bummer. BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For all of those HATERS out there I think you are lame you have to remember that yes it was about a time when the love was running freely and people didnt know about what was going on or what could happen the biggest threat was making a baby and I think you are lame for only thinking this show was based on SEX because it also had a huge part to do with Woman and how they were looked at in the world.. Im deeply saddened that this show isnt coming back…
Everyone has a right to there opinion…My is this:
This was one of the Better shows in a longtime. It made me wonder how many people in my life are in this type of lifestyle and what did they gain in their relationship? Who are we to judge what people do if they do not force it upon use, a TV show is not forcing it on you. For those of you with a negative thought to share I have one thing to say “TURN THE CHANNEL”.
For CBS please get the show up an going on another station. My husband and I agree with Sandy…BRING IT BACK!!!! Look at what “MARRIED WITH CHILDREN” did for FOX!!!!
First of all…..I AM A SWINGER AND I AM DAMN PROUD OF IT…secondly…..for all of you putting us down, maybe the issue lies in the fact that you are secretly jealous of what we have with our mates and our special friends. Anyway this was an amazing show, I was really pleased to see a show like this on CBS not because it was about swingers but because it wasnt another cop show, really does the world need to understand all of the different ways CSI can catch ya, doubtful, they are just informing the criminals on how to get by with stuff, please…lol Dont get me wrong I like CSI and CSI Miami, but it was really refreshing to have something different. Hopefully Showtime or someone will pick it up, hey why not The Playboy Channel then it could be really true to its name…lol Come on it was a tv show get over it, lets have our own swingtown wanna join
I’m not even a swinger and I think this is one of the best shows ever. The show has been extremely educational, seriously and has made me rethink my views to have an open mind should a real life opportunity arise.
But I digress, I am watching the dvd set now after enjoying the show during the summer and came online to see if there has been any news of this show being picked up. What a friggin shame to learn it hasn’t. Really, most people are right that CBS pretty much dug its grave by putting it on Friday night. Who the heck stays home on a Friday night? I had to dvr the show and watch it the next day.
And about ratings? While the networks do use it to measure who is watching what, it’s not an accurate system. C’mon, does ANYONE know ANYONE who has a nielsen ratings box? I’m 40 and in my 40 years of a very socially active life, have never ever met a single person who has one. I know I was watching the show as were tons of my friends and because we don’t have a nielsen box, our viewing of the show doesn’t count? In this day and age, someone needs to come up with a new system of tracking viewer habits because Nielsen is old, outdated and inaccurate. Maybe the cable companies can monitor what people are watching through our cable boxes. Then tons of quality shows like SWINGTOWN wouldn’t get cancelled because suddenly, all the people who ARE watching the shows who aren’t counted by Nielsen would suddenly begin to matter to networks and advertisers.
Hope Showtime picks it up. I don’t have Showtime but would subscribe IMMEDIATELY if I knew Swingtown was on it — with the SAME CAST. I don’t even have Showtime for Dexter, which I watch when I get the dvds… but I wouldn’t do for Dexter, I would do for SWINGTOWN!
PS. VERY cool commentary on the dvds for the pilot episode from the producers. I know they have one for the final episode and I hope they reveal how it would have ended since its not going to be on anymore.
PLEASE bring Swingtown back!! I hadn’t even heard that it wasn’t being picked up but saw one of the main characters on The Practice so I had to find out that way! I’m sick of getting into shows that get cancelled: Lipstick Jungle, Men in Trees, Dirty Sexy Money and now Swingtown! I’m beginning to take it personally!
I fully agree with Brett, the Nielson rating system needs to be changed. Our cable companies should be able to see through the cable boxes what everyone is watching and use that as a means of what should be cancelled and what shouldn’t. You’d be surprised of a lot of the shows that are cancelled that really shouldn’t have been.
There is a big group of people that lived in the 70s that really enjoyed watching Swingtown that the Nielson ratings are not taking into account. Network TV needs to get with the program. You don’t get it. People don’t like new tv series that come out only to have them cancelled a season or year later for some other new series that will probably be cancelled in less than a year; it’s tiring. I for one don’t watch a lot of network tv for that reason alone. I got tired of being hooked and then it being taken away. CBS and ABC are very good at that. I now watch cable most of my time and not CBS, ABC or NBC television unless it’s the news or a sporting event. If you suits don’t wake up and see this, you’re never going to have a TV show that is “making the profits” for you. By the way, all the csi and other crime shows, I’m so over it with those programs. You can’t count on those to last forever!
Angelcrest,
you are freakin idot. Take it for what it was…..a show. yes, yes we all know the risks of having sex with a bunch of different people. Sounds like you need to get laid. But it is a show based on a time. A SHOW!!!! ENTERTAINMENT. And moonlight sucked. Bad acting and a bad concept.
dear angelcrest-
before you go off describing stds in detail as if we dont know what herpes or syphillis is- maybe you should be reminded that HIV, and the AIDS epidemic that you refered to is NOT a gay disease!! Wow! I didnt know that there were still intelligent adults around that still bought into this myth and secondly- guys do not “sign up and join the ranks” as you so ignorantly put it. . I know your type…you sound very country and niave and basically the type that judges and looks down at others that they know nothing about. I feel sorry for your lack of knowledge on general society. And, for someone who doesnt like the show, why were you googling it in the first place? lol Whether you want to face it or not, its all apart of history, and our society- good or bad. Its facts of life. Heres a suggestion: Change your channel to Nick at Night and you can live in the fantasy world of Dick Van Dyke and Leave it to Beaver if it makes you feel better!
the ghost of Angelcrest lives on and on and on and on Pepsi Pepsi Pepsi Pepsi Pepsi Pepsi Pepsi Pepsi Pepsi Pepsi Pepsi Pepsi Pepsi Pepsi Pepsi.
Pepsi!
I prefer Coke.
I LOVED this show.. and so did a lot of my friends.. There’s never anything romantic or fun on anymore.. ABC cancelled Men In Trees, and What About Bryan was cancelled…Lipstick Jungle was just cancelled too… At least ABC is still keeping the bachelor.. Thank goodness for that !!! Even the guys watch it.
There isn’t anything on tv anymore that women can watch .. It’s detective shows, never any movies or anything fun for women to watch.. I don’t think that CBS gave this show a chance !! I think sometimes the ratings go down because you put the shows in a bad time or day … Please bring it back !!!!
My wife and I loved Swingtown, we hope it is picked up by a cable network.
My husband and I also loved this show. My 60 year old mother even loved the show. You are making a wrong decision. Please bring it back!
I loved the show too!!! I think that the reason that it so called didn’t make the ratings is because it was put on a time frame when there was too much other stuff going on and too many other tv shows on at the same time. They should have left in the original time slot where there was not much else on like Tuesday. How come there is NEVER anything on to watch on Tuesday night? The tv people seem to think that there is only tv watching going on on Monday, Thursday and Friday. What is up with these people? PLEASE bring the show back!!!! I am even willing to watch it on Showtime!!!!!
YOU KNOW THAT REALLY SUCKS. I LOVED THAT SHOW,AND LOOKED FORWARD TO IT COMING ON EVERY WEEK.I HOPE THEY CHANGE THERE MIND AND PUT IT BACK ON.
Noooooooo! This show was terrific!!! Please find another home for Swingtown!!
I am so sad to see the show canceled. I liked the characters and loved hearing all the 70’s music. It was something I looked forward to watching last summer. I was really looking forward to seeing it come back.
This is TERRIBLE news… Swingtown was the BEST show on TV last year, my partner and I are so dissapointed! BRING BACK SWINGTOWN – PLEASE!
I love Swingtown and so does my husband and friends. We bought the DVD set. I think it should get another chance. It wasn’t marketed well- to hard to find because it changed days. We only caught it a couple times and then were thrilled when the DVDs came out.
Please bring it back. The story is great and believable. The props are so 70s and bring back great memories as you watch.
i think what cbs has done to cancel swingtown sucks
How can people be comparing Swingtown to Moonlight? Swingtown was beautifully written. Moonlight was childish and trite and combined poor writing with poor acting.
In a day and age where so many people are switching from cable to the internet and netflix for watching media, why drop a show that only did poorly on cable. I for one never heard about the show b/c i don’t watch cable. Just found it online on netflix and LOVE it. I am also an interactive designer so my opinions may be heavily swayed tpwards the internet. I think cable companies should look more at whats going on in the online media that just on live tv. And for the post about why would cbs promote a show that advocates std’s and blah blah what not,,, what about friday night lights, and all the other shows gossip girl that promote bad behaviors as well. I just dont know why its ok to push underage drinking and teen whoring but not adults making adult decisions. Whack off commenter you have a one sided view. your like the dip shits who walk up to smokers and say you know that will kill you as you shove a big mac in your overweight diabetes mouth and drive off in your suburban.
I liked the show – but it wasn’t that racy. It was on network tv, not on cable. I thought the characters were interesting, and could have been developed further, had it not been cancelled. Just a sidenote…. saying this show is just about sex and swinging is like saying that Lost is just about a plane crash. Or… that Six Feet Under was just about a funeral home. The mark of a good show (for me) is having believable, real, flawed people. From the episodes that I saw, it seems apparent that the show is not advocating swinging, it is showing the effects of swinging (among other things) on people’s relationships, many of which are negative.
It’s fiction…. if you want reality, you’d be hard pressed to find it on television.
I just found out today that swingtown was canceled and I am disappointed. I very much enjoyed this show and was looking forward to watching it this season. Despite what other’s people’s opinions are about the moral of the show just remember that it was for entertainment value so their is no need to go bashing the show. Hopefully this show will be back somewhere at some point.
I was very disappointed in the cancellation of swingtown. It had a solid storyline, interesting characters, great music and on and on and on. People who think that this type of show promotes promiscuity are ignorant.
I am disappointed the show is cancelled. I really looked forward to watching it. As for all you people complaining about promiscuity, std’s, etc..it was a show about things that happened in that time period. What’s wrong with that? It was about relationships and the consequences of their decisions. For you to know show much about the show (and complain about it, point out the negatives), you must’ve watched it more then once. And, for someone to watch something more then once, means you must’ve like it. Maybe you’re just too much of a prude to admit you liked it. I myself am not a swinger and never was, but I did enjoy the storyline. I was born in 76 so I didn’t know much about the happenings in those days and was intrigued. Everyday, somewhere, people are doing things that some people don’t agree with. Should we not watch certain shows because they portray poor lifestyles or decisions? Of course not, that is why we watch them!
I for one loved this show.It never failed to get an”Oh,My God!’OUT OF ME.i WAS’NT THE ONLY ONE WHO WATCHED THIS SHOW,SEVERAL OF MY COWORKERS DID TOO.tHE ACTORS AND ACTING WAS WONDERFUL.i WISH THEY WOULD BRING IT BACK.
I agree with lissamarieo4. I too just found out that it was canceled and am VERY disappointed. It is a part of history, like it or not, and it is just for entertainment. I’m sick of all the reality shows and Japanese turned American game shows. And, frankly, I would rather see people ‘love’ each other than see the gruesome ‘reality’ of shows like Criminal Minds. If angelscrest is so concerned about the morals of Swingtown and thinks it will influence people, how ’bout those sicko’s out there watching Criminal Minds and the likes? Get over it and don’t watch what you don’t like, but leave some variety for the rest of us!
The show should definitely move to showtime. It would allow the show to really push the envelope. It is a great show and apparently the creators really took some time to get a lot of period pieces on the set. There was so much left unsaid and I would really like to see which direction the characters go. I would really like to see this show come back somehow.
As for those who dont agree with the morals and values of the show…dont watch it. You cant please all of the people all of the time.
I just found out that the show was cancelled, very upseting. My husband a I looked forward to watching this show every week, I really hope a network picks up the show..and for all you people that have such negative things to say about the show…why are you even on here looking it up? You know there is a side of you that wants to try it.
I hate reality TV. I never watch any of it and the networks are pulling any soap style show ormoving it to a bad night. I loved this show and watched or DVR’d every episode. I got my husband hooked. People watch what is forced on tem and if all there is on TV is reality TV then that is what they are going to watch. Take it away and they will find something else to like. It’s that simple. People are pawns in the networks hands and like drons do what they are formatted to do. Please stop with all the reality TV and keep show like this on the air.
Well, this just plain BLOWS! It brought back memories of a happier time for me. I was born in ‘68 and my parents had friends who I now know were swingers. I couldn’t give a rat’s ass. I still had parents at that point. Who would guess that I’d be an orphan at 37? We were a “Nielsen family” throughout the ’70’s and, to this day, I wonder what, if any impact we had as they didn’t seem to listen to us back then.
I absolutly love swingtown. It’s just a tv show, an entertaining tv show. It is not my lifestyle and it does not make me want a swinging lifestyle. It is just a tv show, if you don’t like it “change the channel”. I hope they give it another chance. I bought the first season from amazon and hope to add more seasons to my collection.
I liked it , my teenager liked it too…. bring it back , bring it back , weve been looking forward to it .Please don’t let us down that was a fun show with a different twist from all of the regular shows that still air
Being a ‘modern’ swinger, i.e. I swing & yes it is still very much a live in the US and worldwide, I loved the show. It brought into the light swingers as normal everyday people. Your next door nieghbor, parents of your kids’ friends, and co-workers. What completely blows my mind is that we as swingers do not try to impose our beliefs, opinions and desires on your the general population as the self appointed ‘morale watch dogs’ do us. What we do is our business, safe sex is practiced, there are guidelines and self imposed rules for the swinging lifestyle. I have been to public bars and to private clubs, at public bars I have been hit on and when turned down the person would get beligerant saying I didn’t really mean no or I really welcomed his/her advances. In private clubs you must read and agree to the club rules. One being — No means NO…Memebers of the swing lifestyle know the meaning of the word and respect the person when the answer is no.
Swingtown was/is a well written show and deserves another chance…but I agree that it does not belong on CBS. It should be aired on FX, HBO or another cable network.
To those of you who think you know best for the entire world…I suggest you look within and tend to your own lives.
LOVED this show!!! Escape from reality; not that I condone the lifestyle at all, but I got caught up in the show and it was fun.
I was so looking forward to the second season. I am so disappointed. I really got into swingtown
Swingtown was one of the best shows out there! I am NOT a swinger nor am I interested in becoming one. But the show is entertainment. The characters were interesting the sets were amazing and all the details were so realistic for the time period. I think we all watch shows that we don’t necessarily agree with. I’m a huge fan of the sopranos but am not a member of the mob. I also love Law & Order and am not a cop or a suspect. I love Big Love and have no plans to be someone’s additional wife. It is possible to watch a show for the entertainment purposes not as an educational “how-to” manual for your life. If you can’t see the show for what it is—- entertainment, don’t watch it. I know so many people who loved and faithfully watched the show (albeit on DVR due to the Friday schedule). Move it to another night so that the fuddy duddy’s that are home every Friday night can watch 20/20 or Jeopardy. Give us our show back! The cast was classic and perfect for the job. Bring it back!!!!!
I find it humorous that people think this show is “advocating” this type of lifestyle. I see the show more as a very vivid look into the past. It tells the pretend story of swinging partners… and I hardly consider it “advocating” when Susan and Bruce, a previously very happy couple, are now both cheating on each other and more than likely headed for divorce because of their new found love for swinging. I hope people who watch the show have some common sense and realize that they shouldn’t swing so freely these days anymore, no matter how “fun” it looks. It might work for some people, but I think that’s rare to find.
In any case, I love this show…. another season would be great!!
I really enjoyed Swingtown; however….I’ve always suggested from the beginning that show has too much “sex” in it….o.k. I know that’s the title name… “swing” town, but if writers were to get more involved with each other’s lives and the children as well, extend those stories, get deep into it along with the swinging, it would be a great show…I think the writers or producers concentrated too much on “swinging”….good gravy, these people had lives too….perhaps some of us would like to know more about each person….the swinging would have just been a big bonus…make it like any other show…in that I want to know more about the characters…PLEASE BRING IT BACK….
Get over it, people! Its a tv show, thats all! Its shows how life was in the seventies, not now! Please, grow up !
PUT IT BACK ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bring the show back!!!!! I don’t watch reality T.V. and this was a fun show to watch. I also watched Moonlight–what is wrong with CBS anyway?? You bring new shows on, let them play a bit, and then cancel??!! I STOPPED watching new shows just for that reason. GIVE THEM A CHANCE!!
THAT SUCKS SWINGTOWN WAS CANCELLED! I WAS SO LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS SEASON. I THOUGHT IT WAS A GREAT SHOW.
I got hooked on this show the first day it was on. I have read the closed minded comments and the positive. If you don’t approve of this show turn it somewhere else. I am amazed at how much of a Bible belt comments are made. If you are so judgmental. It was the real world in that era if you shelterd yourself and are scared of a tv show ,I feel bad for you out in the real world. It is a show for mature open minded adults. I wish the show was brought back on. Great story lines, not tacky, great actors. I remember when people thought Love Boat was risky and I was a young teen when that was out. Same with Knots Landing. If you watch watch a Soap. People are lying, screwing and aother things this is reality we may or may not approve it is just real.
Great show please bring it back.
Great show….Please Bring back to tv……….
OK! I am 49 years old and have seen alot of TV in my life. Some good. Some not. Quite frankly, most of the stuff on right now, to me, is stupid. I cannot stand alot of shows like the reality shows, the dancing or the singing stuff, so after all these years of watching TV they put on a show that had some (whoops, should I say it…hmmm I don’t want to offend anyone) sex on it, they had swingers on there and a great story line. I agree with the past posters, TURN THE DARN CHANNEL IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT or were offended.
It was a great show, and true to the times! Sorry, but if your parents were honest with you, that stuff was going on back then and by the way, IT STILL DOES! I personally LOVED the show and I will miss it greatly. My husband and I watched it every week and it blows that they are looking at canceling it. So many people did like it and contrary to others beliefs, putting a new show on in the summer is never a good idea. Repeats or not, most people are vacationing and don’t even know there are new shows on.
I hope they bring it back. This is one older lady that will be sitting there every week to watch!
Well “angelscrest”, I guess I am a bit late to your diatribe that Swingtown is the equivalent of a golden calf and that the behaviors exploited during the 70’s, and subesequently on CBS, show how AIDS arose.
Oh, you silly silly uneducated, myopic piece of human debris. Do your homework, or at least attempt to fire your synapses before they hit the keyboard. AIDS has been around LONG before the 1970’s, so has chlymidia, genital warts, gonnorhea, syphillis, etc.
Remember, when you point your finger at someone, there are four pointing right back … lest you forget Jim Baker, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, Ted Haggard, Bob Allen, Glenn Murphy Jr, etc. Heck, I’m tired of typing … here’s a link:
http://www.dkosopedia.com/wiki/Republican_Sex_Scandals
And if you want to grab that thing called a “Bible” …
“Judge not lest thee be judged”
I love the show. I was a little kid when this was happening, but I remember the clothes. I remember the free spirits. We used to roller skate a lot and it was a much simpler time then. I just don’t get why people are saying their so offended by this show. I’ve read this is when the Herpes epidemic started and the spread of (back then, VD) better known as STD’s now. Well, today, we are plagued by HIV and Hep C and gay marriages. Why isn’t anyone offended by these things? These weren’t heard of back then. Now adays when someone has something iffy below the belt, they now pray “oh god please let it be Herpes”! What’s wrong with people? They scream about gay rights but yet they’re offended by a show like this? Come on, get real. This stuff really happened because people were experimenting and discovering themselves. Why is that offensive? It’s no more offensive than Obama tryi
