At last, Dems have a voice in the media in Keith O and Dave Matthews and Rachel Maddow. There is no doubt that they tilt towards Liberals. But, when I listen to Hannity, O'Reilly, Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, it seems as though they spew such hatred for people who are not wealthy and towards minorities, it's scary. They remind me of the mob that must have sponsored linching and segragation.

Liberals like newspapers because they agree with them. And that's the fundamental problem with all left leaning cable shows, but especially Olberman. All they do is gang up on the occassional guest who doesn't see it their way. Fox may not be as fair as it claims, but at least O'Reilly has people on his show that disagree with him. KO gets killed because he is boring, -- I hate Republicans, I hate Bush, I hate Fox, I hate O'Reilly -- It's like watching a 4th grader.

Keith Olbermann would have to be incredibly lucky to reach the numbers of O'Reilly or Hannity. Not because he's any less skilled in the medium, but because of cable news demographics. Liberals skew towards newspaper and other print sources, NPR, PBS, the BBC, etc. for their news sources. And of course many people watch the nightly news on the Big Four channels. Of Americans who watch cable news channels as their primary news source, their politics are far more likely to be conservative, which brings them to FOX News first and CNN second.

Plus FOX has the conservative brand on it, while MSNBC is much more patchwork -- Joe Scarborough is a former Republican congressman, Mika Brzezinski is a gun-owning working mother who identified with Sarah Palin, David Gregory and Tom Brokaw are theoretically neutral reporters in the line of Brian Williams. (Personally, Brokaw seems conservative and Gregory more liberal.) On the liberal end, Chris Matthews is a blue-collar Democratic-leaning personality along the lines of Gov. Ed Rendell, Keith Olbermann is a lot like Jon Stewart in that he heaps scorn on hypocrisy and the incompetence of the Bush administration, and Rachel Maddow is a prime example of a progressive. They have a "rainbow coalition" as it were.

As far as people who hate Keith Olbermann -- he is no less incendiary than Bill O' or (ugh) Hannity. Disagree with his viewpoints, dislike his unmitigated contempt for the Bush administration and their apologists, fine. But don't tell me that the FOX guys don't heap scorn and personal attacks on their ideological opponents.

Personally I grudgingly admire O'Reilly in some ways -- he suffers a raging inferiority complex and tends to fight his arguments through intimidation and bullying, but like Limbaugh he is intelligent and talented in his medium. Really dislike most of their viewpoints though on rare occasions I agree with them. Hannity and Glenn Beck make me ill just watching them. Speaking of which I've heard CNN referred to as the "Communist News Network" by some ultra-conservatives, which makes me laugh. I guess if you label anyone who disagrees with Rush Limbaugh on any topic as a "communist"... Less ideological viewers can see that CNN largely skews conservative (Lou Dobbs anyone?), although Campbell Brown showed some surprising independence in aggressively questioning McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds.

I don't know Jim and I, obviously, can't speak for him. However, I haven't made any hateful or unintelligent comments. I've simply stated my beliefs on the liberal media myth.

To be fair, I did make a comment about folks masturbating. I guess that could be taken as a "hateful comment" if it's taken the wrong way. But what it really means is closer to "preaching to the choir". It's not a bad thing, just folks of like mind agreeing with each other in a more or less closed forum.

Ok. There it is. I'll even formally apologize to those that didn't understand the comment.

But I stand by my comments.

There are certainly biased folks in the media on all sides of the house. There are certainly liberally biased shows. Countdown is one of them. But, the only overtly biased network is Fox. They are not liberal.

Chris and Jim,

I am a part of (very) small town America, located in North Louisiana. I am neither Democrat or Republican. I always vote on which candidate makes the most sense and will do the least to expand government (most folks around feel you must always vote for the lesser of two evils).

I watch Fox, MSNBC, and CNN often b/c I enjoy hearing different viewpoints. I don't care much for Hannity, but I cannot stand K.O. and Matthews. Instead of making their liberal points by offering facts and debating actual issues, they make one personal attack after another on those they do not agree with. Bottom line, if you want to coerce me into your line of thinking then you must present an intelligent argument based on facts and not personal attacks.

Jim and Chris, people like you great for this country b/c it makes people like me take the total opposite viewpoint. I can count on one hand all the facts you both offered in your arguments, yet I don't have enough fingers for all the unintelligent hateful comments you just made.

Fox news is my favorite news channel b/c it makes the most sense to me. Intelligent discussions and debate are the norm and the facts are presented. For the most part, FNC does not promote McCain or Obama. That is infinitely more than I can say for MSNBC and CNN. If you would like to know why FNC does so well, try watching it sometime. You'll be better informed on making a decision afterwards. Until then, keep pushing people like me to the right so the conservative party can "steal" another election.

It's really very simple. It's merely misdirection to say that there are more Democratic journalists than Republicans ones. The key that you aren't focusing on is who owns the outlets and what is their agenda?

Whether you're talking Clear Channel or News Corp, it's the the same thing. Your Liberal Media = No Liberals Allowed.

Just one personal example of the corporate expansion of media, my uncle was a Pulitzer Prize winning journalist with his own popular column. When his news paper was bought out, one of the first things they did was take away his column.

From my point of view, he wasn't really a Liberal. At least not with a capital L. But I guess from that point of view that Liberal = Anything to the left of Fox News, it was close enough.

As far as the Hannity and Colmes comparison? It's almost a complete sham. Colmes is like the "guest wrestler" on the old WWF T.V. matches. In those days every match was one "big name" wrestler against an unknown punching bag that would, of course, never win.

How do you explain away the fact that people in Journalism are 9 to 1 registered Democrats vs Republican. It is now laughable to pretend there is no liberal bias. Of course Fox has conservative views front and center, but they always have liberal voices on to express their views. It's Hannity and Colmes, not Hannity and Rush. O'Reilly always has liberals on to express their views, etc. If you aren't from "News"week or Air America, you aren't gonna get on Olbermann.

In my entire lifetime, there has never, ever, been an entire news network as biased as Fox. I think most of the posters here would agree that they are not liberal.

To say that there is a balance is false. T.V. may not be as right wing slanted as radio. It MIGHT be a bit less slanted to the right than print. But it is hardly balanced. Fox's "Fair and Balanced' tag is the most dishonest label on T.V. news.

What you seem to be saying is that a few liberal shows like Countdown are the equal of Fox having an entire network completely devoted to right week propaganda and repugnican party talking points.

That may be true in terms of inherent worth but not in terms of airtime. The closest to balanced we seem to get is CNN. You will almost never see a liberal like Bill Press on CNN without his counterpart on the right, say Tucker Carlson, for example. Now with the edition of shows like Glenn Beck and Nancy Grace, it's getting really ridiculous to say that they are liberal.

You can apply that concept to just about anything. The liberal media bias is a myth. I understand that even those who have used the idea to great effect are embarrassed to do so anymore. It's gotten to be that laughable of an assertion.

The reason O'Reilly/FNC is so far ahead is that they offer a semblance of fair reporting. It obviously really upsets folks like Jim above that they can not control the media any longer. Thank God we finally have a balancing viewpoint to the liberal biased outlets.

Faux News doesn't offer News. I wouldn't care or give them a hard time if they just called themselves what they truly are. The Fox Opinion Network.

Olbermann is the only person telling the truth out there. He is awesome. Fuck you fascists and your fucking war. You are either blind and deaf or must have an IQ below 80 sheep raper to believe the Bullshit that comes out of the mouths of Neo-Con pundits Dana (Say whatever I am told to say) Perino, Rush (Pill Popping, 14 year old Cuban boy molesting) Limbaugh, Bill ( Soft Porn Writer, Falafel Guy) O'Reilly and worst of all Sean (Nazi Loving Fascist) Hannity and his vagina fart of a side kick Alan Combs. I almost forgot Anne (Its a man, baby who needs to shut the fuck up) Coulter

Well, I will say that I haven't read much in the way of objective commentary. Or even balanced for that matter. This TVbythenumbers site did not appear to be inherently biased but I came by it indirectly so, who knows?

From the comments,it appears to be nothing more than right wingers masturbating. While there's nothing wrong with that, as far as it goes, I can't take seriously complaints that the few left wing shows out there are crossing the line.

Those assertions are ridiculous as long as Fox news exists in it's current extreme right wing state.

You people have to be the most brainwashed sheep I've heard in a while. Keep being followers and be very afraid of the truth. It just further proves that the country is still divided. We have those that care about the country and our future like myself and those that are too ignorant to understand what our country is about like the previous posters.

I saw several of Olbermann's shows that would tell O'Reilly to start looking over his shoulder, Countdown is fast catching up.

You have to be kidding me,,,,,Countdown is going into the dump!

When he told President Bush to shut the Hell up....that was the end for me and I suspect alot of viewers.

I also will not watch him on Sunday night football,,,he has NO credibility!!

I watched almost an entire episode of Keith Olbermann last night and the second half of the show I began writing down the sponsors of that whiny, black-hearted snake's show to ensure I never use their products. He's a smug, hate-filled spinster and queen of the fanatical kingdom of perpetual outrage. No wonder O'Reilly completely destroys him in the ratings. NBC could not sink to lower standards of journalistic integrity if they tried. He's just disgusting.

Olbermann is a whiney little baby. I used to like his show but I got tired of all the smug attacks on the administration and O'Reilly. He probably attacks O'Reilly because Countdown is so far behind in the ratings.

Olbermann and Matthews got the boot as political anchors. Their bickering and bias got the best of them. Thanks to those two narcissistic boneheads the credibility of MSNBC/NBC are in the dumpster. It will take these networks a long time to overcome what those two have done to them in such a short period of time.
