Live + Same Day Cable News Daily Ratings for September 8 2008
In a bit of mano a mano, Part 2 of O’Reilly’s interview with Obama dominated Part 1 of Olbermann’s interview with Obama last night. Outside of our usual O’Reilly vs. Olbermann charts I don’t typically call this rivalry out, but it was an impressive head to head win by O’Reilly each interviewing Senator Obama.

I would express shocked about the O’Rielly-Obermann numbers…but I’m not shocked…at all
Rachel Maddow pulled only 483,000 viewers in the Age 25-54 group on her
first night. Apparently some of Olbermann’s viewers in the same group (607,000) did not stay on to watch her opening. She needs more time to establish her identity with viewers and distance herself from Keith Olbermann’s elk. She did better with the 35-64 growd (723,000). Too early yet to tell. She may need a couple of weeks to get it off the ground.
Larry,
“Only” 483,000 viewers in 25-54? Are you kidding? That’s better than any program on CNN or CNN Headline News. Moreover, it’s about triple what Abrams was pulling in the slot. Next time put the numbers in perspective. Thanks for the laugh of the day…
IMHO, Maddow won’t hold those numbers. People were just checking her out, including conservatives. I give her two weeks, and then she’ll be around 1M…if she’s lucky. The same people who watch Olbermann will watch her. Same audience.
RSS – Again – “only 483,000 viewers” ??? YES !! Olbermann had 607,000. Where did the other 124,00 disappear to when Maddow came on right after Olbermann ? That was what I was refering to. There was a drop in the carry over numbers.
I am glad that you think 483,00 was a good number. We will see. Maddow has time
to make her impact.
Dr. Maddow has the real opportunity to blow away the junk on the fnc by being herself. Her numbers were impressive for the first night but time will tell I hope she does well.
Don’t mean to be political but viewers deserve better than hannity stuff.
Rachel is terrific!………what a refreshing new face to see and hear!
I think Maddow’s numbers are higher than the range we will discover in a few weeks time, but they will still settle higher than Verdict.
Also, Olbermann’s and O’Rielly’s are higher too. Its the Obama interviews. All 3 of their shows are clear outliers for the week compared to normal (they are both stretching out the interviews over several days)
And Larry, about the 124k missing viewers, the problem is the format of Keith’s show. It starts with a massive front-end story, and the last 15 minutes has a very high number of commercials.
My bet is a good % of those viewers jumped ship before the last story, which is usually garbage. I really wish we could get a breakdown of the ratings within the show, maybe every 15 minutes or so. That would show the effect better
Morning programs i.e. MSNBC’s Morning Joe, just curious, what did IMUS do when he was on?
So, when does Tuesday’s numbers come out?
Right now!
why dont they get rid of bathtub boy, he is a complete ass with no credentials at all….except…………..making an ass of himself
by the way, oberman talks more about fox news, bill oreilly and sean hannity, than the news, why, because he has no clue what news is….maybe he should talk about his personnal life, how about that bathtub boy…..YOU ARE A COMPLETE ASS, THE ONLY SMART THING MSNBC COULD DO OR HAS EVER DONE, IS FIRE YOUR WORTHLESS ASS..
I(conservative) checked out maddow a couple times already. I like a lot of things about her. I’m guessing she is a lesbian, so I don’t hold her appearance against her that badly. She is not malicious, full of venom and vitriol, or mean spirited. She seems to focus a lot on republicans faults, but isn’t trapped there like olberman. She can get out and see the wide world beyond negativism. She is much more fair than olberman, but she is not entertaining. If she was smokin hot i would probably watch in place of olberman, or exciting in some other way. She needs to stay away from run-away hate though. I can’t understand why liberals do not make an anti-o’reilly. Would be so easy and would challenge his stranglehold on undecided. Maddow is your only real hope because rest of liberals can’t accept giving others a fair turn to talk AND they can’t stay away from their famous engulfing hatred.
