Bill will do the overnight report shortly with the whole night, but I wanted to chime in on the ratings for Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and Gossip Girl (which went head-to-head!).

Gossip Girl does seem to be improving versus last year. It again cleared over 3 million viewers (3.158 million, which for the CW is good), but the real test with Gossip Girl is how it did among 18-34 year old women. We haven’t seen those numbers for last night, but among all 18-34 year olds it got a 2.2/7 (rating/share) which is down slightly from the overnight results for the season premiere last week when it got a 2.3/7. It’s probably reasonable to guess that among 18-34 year old women it did about as good or a little bit worse than last week. And last week CW was delighted by the results so I doubt they’ll hate these numbers much.

Sarah Connor is another story. While it bested Gossip Girl overall and among 18-49 year olds, Gossip Girl actually did perform better with 18-34 year olds (2.2/7 vs. 2.1/6 for TSCC). Keep in mind, both shows beat Deal or No Deal among 18-34 year olds and TSCC beat Deal or No Deal among 18-49 year olds as well, even though DOND had more than 3 million more total viewers. The numbers on TSCC were 6.343 million and a 2.4/7 among 18-49 year olds. While this is down huge from the series premiere last January, it’s less of a drop off from the season finale on March 3 when it had 8.29 million viewers (final numbers) and 4.39 million among 18-49 year olds.

So while the news isn’t great, especially up against Monday Night Football on ESPN (which no doubt was the most-watched programming of the night) winning the 18-49 demographic for the hour is a positive. However, for now CBS is still repeats and ABC is airing junk. When new episodes return on CBS and ABC airs Dancing With the Stars, things may look a bit different.
