Julia & Jacob,

- HUT refers to the number of Households Using/watching Television at a particular point of time. Hence, the number is the same for ALL networks and it is a known fact that more people watch TV at 9pm than 8pm

- I've said this many times but I'm going to say it again: OTH is an established show. It does not need the amount of promotion GG gets. But promotion or no promotion, OTH is SUPPOSED to do better than GG, not because it's a better show in any way but because: (i) it's more established, (ii) it has a history of higher ratings, (iii) it's at 9pm.
I don't see why you should be bashing GG. If I were an OTH fan, I'd be contented but not conceited that OTH managed to pull off just a bit more numbers than GG, because if the opposite were to happen OTH would be in trouble.

- Besides, OTH had the privilege of being on The WB. It could rely on the audience it built with The WB while GG had to find its own audience.

Oh, and OTH has better quality plotlines? Yeah right.

JoeCanada, we don't see any Canadian ratings and I don't think we should factor it into the US numbers when it comes to forecasting the fate of shows.

I like the idea of the chess match scene...

Don't forget about the Canadians you guys. I've been reading all of you're posts and it seems that only the Americans viewers saw the premiere of TSCC. Our TSCC premiere doesn't start until Saturday 13, 9pm on SPACE (Channel 50) with a Merathon that stars at 12pm. Just maybe the viewers of Canada who are big fans (me being one of them) of the show as well will have higher ratings...

I for one would like to see an episode were Cameron and John play a good game of chess. Man vs Machine.

Frank, we'll see in a week. I think it's fair to think it has SOME impact. Although there was nothing special about the first week of MNF kicking off at 7pm, it is 1.5 hours earlier than it comes on regularly. Fox certainly knew about that and could have pushed the premiere back one week...

By the way, Robert, curious if you'd seen this? You mentioned the football game. That seems to be the growing online consensus.

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117991939.html?categoryId=14&cs=1#

"On Monday of the current week, Fox's "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" opened with nothing-special numbers in its new timeslot (2.4/7 in 18-49, 6.33m), though it was the top broadcast program in demos. "Prison Break" followed (2.6/6, 6.36m) with numbers similar to its week-earlier season preem.

"Sarah Connor" could have been impacted by the early-starting season preem of "Monday Night Football" on ESPN (5.1/15, 12.50m for Green Bay-Minnesota), which began at 7:05 p.m. ET instead of the usual 8:40."

I dont understand the PB bashing. It won in the 18-34 demo and was a close second in the 18-49 demo. For a show which has reportedly jump the shark, I think those ratings are good. Every Tuesday I pray for bigger numbers, but that isnt the case, nevertheless it was Fox's top scripted drama last night.

First and for most, Im a fan of TSCC, but FOX need to keep a close eye on it. In my opinion, last nights episode was an anticlimax. Given last season's cliff-hangar ending and a quality first season, I was expecting more from the second season premiere. It felt more like a filler episode, with the entire Cameron wanting to terminate John to protecting him. All we did was just go around in circles. If it was for the final scene, the episode would have been a complete disaster in my opinion. Those numbers arent that impressive and to lose out to PB is not good news.

I'm glad PB is atleast holding on to it's viewership. That's something. And it won it's hour so I wish people weren't so hard on it. Personally, I like the show, so I hope it keeps it's ratings steady and builds later on. SCC could have done better, and I surprised it didn't-- but like I said, I didn't know it was back on. Hopefully, the reviews for the premiere episode will remind people it's started up again.

I don't know who gets the lions share of DVD revenue. (the studio or the network) but it seems to me that TSCC would be strong there, as well as online, and DVR. But even with all that I don't think a 2.4 is good enough to earn it a 3rd season. Sad.

Robert, when do the time-shifted numbers start to appear? Any chance Terminator will see a bump larger than the 1.8 million viewers it used to get last season? And, will that help?

Sheesh, I almost get the impression that a bunch of people want to see TSCC get canned. It's the first week folks with the show in a new time slot. Give it some time. I'm not sure how many NBC viewers who tuned in for DOND are going to return for Chuck when it starts, so the viewers may pick up. Plus, it will not always be up against multiple football games. Given the fact that Fox renewed TSCC in the first place, I sort of doubt that they are going to can it without first completing the episodes that have been filmed.

Oh man - those aren't good for Sarah and friends - I still think they need to move it to sundays at 9 eastern - or switch with Prison Break...oh well...i liked the surprise Terminator at the end - but 6+ million is still a ways from 9+ million from the so called Season 1 ( 9 weeks is a season?)...I hope they don't have an open-ended/never finish ending at the end of this run...and for the record Fox should call this season 1.5 - 9 weeks to me doesn't count as a season.

Susan, it still outperformed New Amsterdam in the 18-49 demo. Just a random sampling but on Monday April 14, New Amsterdam had a 2.1 demo rating in the overnights at 9pm (though it did have more than 6.3 million viewers). But TSCC was down in the demo almost 23% vs. the combined two hour finale on 3/3 when it did a 3.1 rating among 18-49 year olds in the overnights. So it's bad, but not *(yet) worse than New Amsterdam!

Bad for T:SCC. Low demo, less than stellar total viewers. These numbers are actually worse than New Amsterdam, which got canned. I don't think this show will last much longer.

Okay, I'll admit that I enjoy watching Gossip Girl, sure, the quality of the plotlines aren't that good, but it's watchable. What I don't get is the hype, sure the CW wants people from the women 18-34 demo watching, but still Gossip Girl is in its 2nd season and still gets beaten by One Tree Hill which is in its 6th!

So WOW, Gossip Girl got almost 3.4 million viewers for its season premiere episode and 3.2 for its 2nd, and it outpreformed One Tree Hill in its season premiere, big deal...

So, let us compare the two CW dramas:
1. Gossip Girl has far more promotion than One Tree Hill, still gets outpreformed most of the time.
2. When One Tree Hill was in its 2nd season it averaged 4.3 million viewers and had a season high of 5.4 million, that's numbers Gossip Girl wont even get near this season.
3. Okay, maybe its not fair comparing the shows like that, since One Tree Hill wasn't on CW back then, plus it had Gilmore Girls as lead-in, so lets compare how they did on Wednesdays at 9. In the 06-07 season, One Tree Hills fourth, it had Top Model as lead-in. One Tree Hill averaged 2.9 million viewers and had a season high at 4.2 million.
In the 07-08 season Gossip Girl had that very same spot and averaged 2.35 million viewers and had a season high at 3.65 million.

So lets face it Gossip Girls numbers are not, nor will they ever be, comparable to One Tree Hills. And the quality of the One Tree Hill plotlines continues to be far better than Gossip Girls every week!

Monday Night Football is probably the culprit for the low ratings. It wasn't a simple Monday Night Football night, but it was the season opener... so that's a huge deal. And it was also packaged as a double header. People love that.

I expect better numbers from TSCC and the likes next week. Good thing is that even with poor ratings, TSCC did well againt the competition. So that's something to look forward to.

Also, TSCC has been huge in the DVR department and online viewing... hopefully FOX looks at that as a positive.

SG GG, while your first point is definitely true for all other networks, it's well established that on CW 8pm gets higher ratings than 9pm.

Two things for those who are thrilled about OTH's 0.09 million/ 0.1 rating triumph over GG:

1. HUT no.'s are higher at 9pm, so by saying that OTH beat GG due to a mere 0.09 million viewers and 0.1 rating increase is a "huge success" is exaggerating. There's something wrong with OTH if it doesn't do better than GG. Besides, both got 3.1/9 for their core women 18-34.

2. OTH is an established show. It doesn't need the amount of promotion GG gets because getting new viewers to tune it at a show's sixth (and rumored last) season would be difficult, and not to mention, pointless.

Prison Break doesn't have to worry about ratings it seems. It's produced by FOX, and they purchased the entire season of episodes. AND they're talking spin-off, which just blows my mind.

Terminator, on the other hand, has two issues: it's not a FOX production, so FOX has to pay Warner Brothers to air the episodes, and Terminator has a huge percentage of non-live viewers (hopefully still true this season). The amazing thing is Terminator is consistently putting out quality stuff, it's tough to find a negative review of the show anywhere.

I'm going to place my bet now that people just didn't know the show was starting last night. I am talking to more people today, nobody watched, nobody knew it started.

Also, something else, my DVR, even without me telling it, was ready to record Sarah Connor last night because I have it set to record first run episodes for that series. I'm hoping that a lot of DVR viewers do the same. That way people may be watching the show later in the week after missing it last night.

The producers of Prison Break joked about how many sharks the show was intentionally jumping. It was offensive. The implication was almost "we're just screwing around airing new episodes of garbage because Fox is dumb enough to pay us."

I just hope Terminator meets or exceeds Fox's expectations. Since I don't know what those are, I'm panicking about the ratings, as is everyone else I think.

Jack completely agree with you I gave that show PB a second chance last night but I am not watching that anymore. The show feel so dated and done with it's bad and so boring and dull no matter how much running, screaming and the horrid over acting it just doesn't work anymore.I am just waiting for NBC,CBS and ABC to air their new shows mostly funny ones already in two weeks.
