I think the full impact of it has yet to be seen. These things can take a while to play out. But it may be that as the industry considers these ratings, we'll begin to see fewer shows about spoiled rich kids played by adults, and more shows about normal, more relatable kids with everyday struggles who are actually played by kids, or at least younger adults. (There's a mix of teens and young adults on "Secret Life," I believe.) That's not to say "Secret Life" isn't flawed. It is. The dialogue is downright terrible sometimes, and that's annoying because it honestly wouldn't take that much to fix it. But it still has something that draws people, and I think the industry will be working to try to figure out what that something is, and replicate it. They don't compare their results to cable networks or to non-English networks. Nor do they program Sundays. Or Saturdays. Or 10-11pm weekdays. At some point, if they narrow their focus enough, they'll be programming exclusively for the CW PR staff in their private screening room from 12-1 on Mondays. :) Gusar, et. al., the CW will simply ignore it.
