It’s good to see Supernatural gaining momentum while it’s still on the air (as opposed to after it’s been canceled and people start stumbling over the DVDs and syndicated reruns… and it’s too late). I agree, the CW’s marketing of the show is abysmal and they really should get a clue. Quit spending millions on ads for ratings tankers and promote the shows that keep people coming back- AND keep sucking in new blood.

I believe that it would get higher ratings on a more popular network but I do agree with you that the ratings it would recieve probably wouldn’t be high enough for those networks and that it wouldn’t have lasted this long. I guess I’m just upset at the marketing of the show. It would also help if it wasn’t paired up against C.S.I.

Batgirl1979 i disagree about the rating for supernatural being better, altohugh the me higher, the show would never have lasted 4 seasons on a regular network because MOST niche sci fi shows dont last very long on netwrk tv

I agree with CAEdge that Supernatural would get higher ratings on a different network and it would help if they at least tried to promote the show a little. I have never seen an advertisement for the show. Though that could be because I live in Canada and we don’t have the CW, and they keep changing what channel the show airs on here. I thought the premiere was excellent. I am a 29 year old and Supernatural is my favourite show but my parents(whom I don’t live with) who are in their 50’s also watch it and love it.

wilq, We don’t see overnight ratings for cable shows, and I’d doubt that show would make the top 40 weekly cable shows we do see on Tuesdays.

FX is very proud of the ratings growth it seems, but they aren’t giving out any numbers I can find:

YAY FOR SUPERNATURAL!!! Just knowing that they have done so well in the beginning of this season makes me so happy! The season premiere was intense and one of the better episodes of the series, and I’m glad to see such high numbers…which were absent last season….though, I hope it will still stay strong when the big shows come back on Thursdays…though, I think this also shows how well SN could do if it didn’t air opposite such major shows on tv….

Nice to see Supernatural do so well.

And with no promotion, too! You’d think that’d give a message to the CW as to where their priorities should be, but I’m sure it won’t.

Hopefully the viewers stick around and it keeps 3.5 million or so for the season.

Supernatural is my new favorite show and I’m glad it’s doing better. The chit chat around the office today was about it. I think word is getting around.

I think it would have MUCH higher numbers if it was on another network…

Gabriela, there are many factors that cause the overnight affiliate ratings to change before the final ratings. The airing of something like a baseball game in some markets could reduce the final ratings somewhat from what is reported overnight.

I think its helped that Supernatural got its premier before Greys and CSI were back, I’m pretty sure last years premiered when they had allready been on the air for a couple of weeks. Hopefully some new viewers will stick around now they’ve seen how good the show is.

Smallville has been on for quite some time. The show is still great, but I imagine they won’t have the viewers of past years just from time and from losing Michael Rosenbaum.

Technical question: in the markets Smallville didn’t air because baseball etc are included in those numbers? if not that number will go up or down?
