So there’s TSCC and Gossip Girl, Prison Break and Heroes. Gee…wonder if those shows are on at the same time? On the same night?
That’s four out the top ten that air on Monday night opposite each other. My prediction is next week Chuck will be on that list, if Hulu doesn’t report an explosion in viewers first.
And the networks wonder why nobody watches live…
Frank, with Hulu/NBC please remember that the number of streams without the number of minutes is completely worthless information. In order to equate it to these numbers, we need minutes of engagement as these numbers are total minutes of viewing divided by the show’s duration. *Many* more watch parts of shows than the numbers reported by Nielsen. So a million streams of Chuck is meaningless (but a million streams that averaged 40 minutes that would mean more).
Torrent information is interesting ONLY to us and the LEGAL departments at the networks. Those numbers are worldwide, and typically completely stripped of advertising so torrent download info is merely a novelty. We happen to like novelty here, but to think it gets any weight in renew or cancel decisions is likely folly.
Yeah I agree the networks won’t use this for renew/cancel decisions. But there is a reason these shows are popular online, and it’s not just that they appeal to the younger crowd. Most every discussion I have with people about Monday night shows now is “which show gets dropped from the DVR…” They watch Chuck, Terminator, Big Bang, Heroes and football. Is there a DVR in the world that can record three networks at once? The hardcore fans are driven online to watch, but most people just drop the show. Just today I spoke with somebody who said they just can’t watch TSCC anymore, too much other stuff on, they’ll just pick up the DVD of the season. But at this rate the show will be gone by then though.
