Nielsen Cable Network Coverage Estimates (as of March, 2008)
CNN/HLN: 96.93 million HHs
CNBC: 95.13 million HHs
FNC: 94.55 million HHs
MSNBC: 91.59 million HHs

CNN/HLN: 96.93 million HHs
I don’t understand why you are combining these two networks, thus giving the impression that CNN is #1? Nothing could be further from the truth
Stephen it is not us who combined them, it was Nielsen. I’m guessing they did so because everywhere CNN is available, CNN HLN is available too…
Stephen that’s the number of Households who get those channels via their cable systems. I believe that all systems that carry CNN also carry HLN so that’s why they are listed together.
It’s not meant to show “CNN is number 1″ but to perhaps deter the chuckleheads who write things like “Hey XXX show would have a LOT MORE viewers if its cable network was available in as many homes as this other network!”.
In fact, the number of households that can receive each of the networks in this report is quite similar, so only a tiny portion of their audience differences can be explained by their network coverage differences.
I see Rachel Maddow and Keith O. have higher ratings now.
People are finally getting wise to that Fixed News channel.
Rachel & Keith have a long ways to go to catch up with Fox. There is no balance on MSNBC. It’s just another Barack Channel. Along with NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN & MTV
Thank you Robert and Bill. Appreciate it.
Pink Bear, have you noticed that FOX’s ratings in those time slots are up also? I believe the latest political news and the bailout have helped everyone. If I’m not mistaken CNN is up too.
Hey neato,
Olbermann beat Nancy Grace at 10:00pm…why no rejoicing or glaoating from the Liberal choir?
Who says Olbermann is not a winner…If GE keeps collapsing maybe Peter Chernin & Rupert Murdoch (News Corps) could by it and Murdoch could fire Olbermann a second time.
Well I guess that was snarky wasn’t it? Yeah, as long as Olbermann keeps whopping Nancy Grace by that 270,000 margin I guess they should keep him.
I wonder how “tingle up my leg” Matthews is dealing with being beaten by Lou Dobbs in the age of Obama. If Chris ain’t pounding Lou now…I don’t know when or how he is planning on getting some more folks out there to tune him in!
Nice to see he is off his period now that Obama is back up in the polls.
Anyone out there: Question: What is with the Obama channnel on Dish Network?
Cattleman, one thing. Matthews is losing to Lou on Hardball’s repeat broadcast. We don’t get the 5pm numbers, which is when the show airs the first time. Would that give Matthews the win? I don’t know.
The other comment I have is CNBC isn’t scratching as much as they were even a few months ago. Yea, The Big Idea scratches pretty much every night, but other than that, they are getting solid numbers.
And before I get jumped on for that. Yes I know and can see that CNBCs numbers are well below the other networks. But they are not competing with the others, really. They have a niche audience and its a very profitable niche audience (similar to why golf is still broadcast). I’m pretty sure CNBC has the highest average viewer income on TV. My point is CNBC has improved over itself, especially in prime time.
MSNBC and CNN represent real news at least
Fox News will not have any ratings when Pres. Obama is in office.
They should be happy that they are even allowed to broadcast untruths about Barack when he is elected.
Hopefully, the first thing Barack does is do something about Fox News.
From Pink Bear: “Hopefully, the first thing Barack does is do something about Fox News”
If you’re wish is fullfilled, then it would mean that he intends to over rule the constitution and shut down free speech. If that is his intent, then it would be imperative for every American to vote for McCain.
If people like you would like a country that suppresses freedom of speech, then why don’t you move to Cuba? Seems the logical thing to do. That way you don’t have to worry about dissenting views. Everyone will agree with the government line even if they don’t want to. Sounds like Utopia for someone like you. There is one glitch though. If you were to move to Cuba and you didn’t like something the government was doing you’d not be able to voice it. You’d just have to go along and suffer in silence. Ummmmm, maybe not such a Utopia after all, eh?
Pink Bear’s post here is a reason to be fearful of the far left….You can have free speech…as long as you agree with them…
Yep, the Far Left has brought us a $10 trillion dollar debt, 40,000 killed and wounded in Iraq, 750,000 jobs lost in 9 months, unemployment at 6.1
%, deregulation of the financial and energy markets debacle…….no….no…wait, thats the FAR RIGHT and their water carriers, Oreilly, Hannity and Fox Noise!!!! (Fox use to be the Bush News Channel, but even they’ve disavowed that loser!!!) As Ive said before, 80% of Reillys listeners are over 55!! Pass the geritol, this is gonna be good!!!!!!!
fabfugarrie – You must be drinking Geritol and not telling anybody. Here is why:
8 PM Friday October 3rd ( go look for yourself):
The Factor (Bill O’Reilly) 25-54 Group 878,000 viewers below 55
Countdwon (Keith Olbermann) 25-54 Group 669,000 viewer below 55
OK so you say 80% most O’Reilly’s listeners/viewers over 55 and and on Geritol ?
Enjoy the cool aid. Am I not seeing the numbers you claim to see ?
You only see the numbers you want to see, La Bank!
Larry,
I got to hand it to you. That was a stunning use of facts to confuse a liberal who is probably still confused. How dare you introduce facts into his world.
I see one thing here: I am reading all of these hate filled rants from the left Fox Noise and all the left catch phrases. I think they are getting their info from the Daily Kos and nut cake sites like that.
You simple showed that the rants do not hold up under scrutiny. Now they wil accuse you of lying probably.
Irregardless you rode that nuke down to the ground like Slim Pickens in the scene from Dr. Strangelove or How I Learned to Love the Bomb.
Kudoos!!!!!
Chris,
What is the scoop on FBN vs. CNBC? What are those numbers? I heard they were at war a while back.
And on Matthews: good point.
Oreilly beats Olberman by 200.000 in the 24-54 age group…whoopee!!!!!! Oreillys been on 10 years longer than Olbermann!!! The remainder of his 80% are you old guys living in the nursing homes (Cattleman, dont you have a toy gun to clean there at the home??!!) You old guys and Oreilly are dinosaurs!!!!!!Just admit it and get out of the way!!!…….dont forget your Ensure!
!
Hey guys, where are you?? (eating dinner at 4 there at the home??!!) Sorry, cant wait around for a response!!!!!! Been fun!!!……Got errands to run! Have to get back by 8 for KO!! One question, since you old guys go to bed at 6, do you have tivo for Oreilly at 8?!!!!!
O’Reilly has never beaten Keith O. in my house.
And I’ve got 5 TV’s turned on to Countdown and MSNBC day & night.
We’re older than 70 but we still love Keith.
Somebody is paying off the raters (I suspect Fox News).
That must be in Pink Bear…Fox is paying…Since you “love” Keith…when is the last time he had on ANYONE that disagrees with his point of view?
I don’t have any problem with some of his point of view…I just like to hear it debated now and then….Just once…or did he get an F in debate?
Liberals always resort to name calling when presented with facts. It’s laughable really. I’m 23 and watch O’Reilly every night. Olbermann and the rest of MSNBC (except for Morning Joe) are scum
It’s especially funny that fabfugarrie said he “can’t wait around for a response”, after WAITING AROUND FOR A RESPONSE for 30 minutes. Ha! Get a life
No doubt mattisu if you are 23 and watch Oreilly every night, its you my….friend that has no life..
The only fact I see Mattisuise is a lonely 23 year old kid that watches Oreilly every night…..and youre telling someone else to get a life! Ha!
