Dancing with the Stars again powered ABC to the viewership win on Monday with 15.675 million viewers, but CBS’s comedy block, lead by Two and A Half Men, took the 18-49 demo with a 4.0 rating / 10 share. NBC, while well back in viewers, took the 18-34 demo on the youthful strength of Heroes.
Dancing with the Stars averaged 18.81 million viewers and was the most watched show of the night and was down about 2% from last week. The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother provided strong demo competition during the 8-9 hour, with HIMYM winning the 18-34 demo in its portion.
The heavy promotion for Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles may have had some effect. It was up a bit in viewers, but up 0.3 ratings points for 18-49 and 0.4 ratings points for 18-34 from last week, both big % moves. Chuck lost about 10% of its viewers and 20% in each demo from its premiere last week.
While Two and A Half Men didn’t challenge the viewership of Dancing with the Stars, it beat it to win the hour for adults 18-49, and be the most watched show in the demo for the night. Heroes, well back in viewership, and down about 10% from last week, was still the 18-34 winner for the hour and the night. Prison Break was well back, but was up 10% in the demos from last week.
CSI: Miami was down about 10% from last week as well, but still dominated the 10-11 hour across the board.

Nielsen TV Ratings: ©2008 The Nielsen Company. All Rights Reserved.
Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Heroes a winner? Come on, i know the demos are still OK-ish but 8 million? That’s terrible
Yes, Privileged was a repeat. The CW should consider swapping Privileged with OTH (or 90210 with GG).
What about raising the bar??? Does anyone know how well are they holding up??
Be interesting to see where the viewers will go for tomorrow being as Fringe is not on.
@kannon
Not good, i think last week they did 2 million or something like that
Bob, Heroes was the most watched show for 18-34 adults for the night.
SG, GG, thanks I will edit out the ?.
Kannon, we may see Bar’s numbers for last week in our cable list today, but its not out yet.
Bill, the question is : so?
GG is uasually the most watched by teen girls all week. DOes that make it a winner?
Maybe that top spot in 18-34 can keep it out of the losers column but nothing more than that.
Just an FYI…Chuck was on MyTV20 in Colorado for a Senate Debate on NBC.
Brooke Burke on Dancing With the Stars is helping the ratings.
Brooke has a killer body that women can only hope to attain. And she has four kids to boot.
Find me a women that looks like that, and I’m all over her watching her every step.
Bob, demo winners are valuable, average viewership doesn’t pay the bills, adult demo viewership does. Primarily 18-49 adults, but 18-34 adults as well.
hey guys just worried about life..these don’t look like great numbers..if it goes on like that, will the show be cancelled? if so when? thnx
Bill sorry to be a pain but i was just wondering. Do you have any sources inside Fox?
Thanks, Bill, for finding that silver lining in the cloud of a 2.3 18-49 share and 5.6m overall viewers for Terminator last night.
Heroes should be getting better ratings as the episodes so far have been great and a vast improvement on season 2. DWTS is a ratings juggernaut!
yeah, heroes might be the winner but those ratings are terrible compared to even last week….. and if you compare it to the previous seasons.. wow.
Heroes was indeed down, as I posted, but still the demo winner.
If by inside you mean someone who tells me things others don’t get, no.
still not good ratings for terminator. but at least its beating prison break so its not all bad lol. anyone know if its on next week?
Be interesting to see the DVR numbers for Heroes.
John,
Both Terminator & Prison Break are off next week. The previews said “In Two Weeks”
I’m not so worried with the ratings for both of these shows as I was at first. They both keep holding on to what they have and when the DVR+7 or whatever it is gets factored in both usually are about 6.5 million. Personally I don’t think thats too bad when the night is so full of other programs, especially DWTS which takes in such a chunk of viewers.
Well…I noticed FOX pushing SARAH in 2 weeks (due to Baseball series) that they have no thought on moving SARAH to WED NITES…If they don’t move her by mid way of the 13 episodes then their would be no reason to move at all…last nights episode with the soft metal terminator was freaky/cool…but the DRAMA is really good – just the whole – save a life to lose the same life later to save another life was well written and explained…last night episode was by far my favorite.
WHAT ABOUT THIS DO PEOPLE NOT GET – Please FOX and especially viewers – keep Sarah from getting terminated by the meanest terminator of all…The Ratings!
I agree with Bob, Heroes should not be considered a winner. It’s been dropping .5 in each of the demos each week, while 2 1/2 men has increased by .5 in each of the demos each week. Conclusion: The audience for Heroes is flocking over to 2 1/2 in massive droves. Very alarming.
I’ve heard that Heroes jumped the shark by having a bunch of time traveling characters and other silliness. I must say I would be surprised to see viewers switch from a scifi-oriented drama to a comedy (Two and a Half Men). But what do I know?
Andrea, it’s not good for Heroes, but Heroes still wins the night in a coveted demo. It will likely come in the top ten in the 18-34 demo this week. How is that not winning?
Bill, what does it mean that the 18-34yr demo viewer share really jumps in the 9pm hour? Does that mean more 18-34 year olds are watching TV then or that they are just more concentrated on the major networks during that hour?
DWTS gets a huge jump at 9pm, and Heroes pulled in some good numbers there as well, but maybe I’m just not understanding how the household share breaks down.
To put Heroes into perspective, if it keeps dropping at a rate of .5 a week, it will lose its No. 1 standing in 18-34 to Fuego in 4 weeks. You might want to start a Heroes Death Watch
Correction: To put Heroes’ fall into perspective, if it keeps dropping at a rate of .5 a week, it will lose its No. 1 standing in 18-34 to DWTS and 2 1/2 Men in 3 weeks. (Even worse than originally posted.) You might want to start a Heroes Death Watch
1982: Again, FOX was thought Terminator at 10 mill last since was average, and that was prior to DVR ratings.
Life needs to be placed back on Weds at 10pm. I think it still has “life” in it–especially since it skews young.
P.B should be canned already it serves no purpose it’s not even entertaining anymore it’s just plain dumb.I wonder if the people from FOX fall asleep when watching the new season of that mess of a show!
Laseau,
So completely disagree with you!
Sorry, more coherently:
1982: Again, FOX thought Terminator at 10 mill last spring was average, and that was prior to DVR ratings.
Heroes is not going to be canceled any time soon. It’s one of NBC’s top performers in the demo. You can start imagining that it the erosion is going to continue at its current rate, but that would be crazy to believe. In any case, whatever next week or the following week hold has no affect on THIS week, when Heroes is a winner.
(BTW, I can’t stand Heroes and wish it would be canceled, but my wishes do not reflect reality much of the time.)
Julia,
I never said it was going to get canceled right away. Regarding, erosion: see Bionic Woman.
You brought up the death watch. Bionic Woman had further to fall in its plunge to the bottom. Will Heroes get below 4.0 in both demos? Almost certainly. Will it drop .5 every week from here on out? Almost impossible.
Why dont Fox move Prison Break to a different night so that it doesnt clash with 2 of the biggest shows in America?
i know boston legal is dead and people under 35 hate talking or reading about it but it’s doing pretty well imo. it’s been at 9 and 1/2 million for the three weeks. not dropping like most other shows. yes it’s lead in drop off is big but NOTHING has done well after dancing since the show has been on. that crowd does not stick around. it just doesn’t. and it hasn’t dropped from last season.
seems like with all of the new holes in the abc lineup… boston, even with it’s older demo, would at least be a good hole filler for at least the whole season. cause it looks stronger than opportunity knocks, pushing daisies, dsm, anything on friday, viewers wise it’s stronger than ugly betty, and i doubt eli will hold up even though i like it.
they definitely lost some of the younger audience when they shifted to more drama 2 seasons ago but it’s still a really good show.
FrankJ, When the aggregate demo 18-34 numbers jump at 9pm it means that more in that age group are watching *broadcast* TV at that time, yes. There are other broadcast networks besides the 6 in the post, but they are insignificant in terms of audience.
Heroes ia bad ripoff of Lost.
Lost has no people with other wordly powers so no it is not a ripoff of Lost.
Wirst Week Is Droping? WHY! It’s sutch a good show. It shon’t be geting ratings like that. And Prison Break. I Watch it on hulu all the time and it’s great. It’s the other shows that are on that is geting it serewed. The ratings will go back up when24 comes back.
If DTWS were to vanish what show(s) would pick up its viewrs?
How much longer can CBS stay with “Worst Week” after 2 and 1/2 Men. Non laugh track shows just don’t fit in that comedy block.
Gerry, there’s really no way to tell, but I’m sure a lot of them would go watch something on cable.
Last night’s episode of Worst Week was hilarious. I am very disappointed with its performance and cannot understand why people are not watching it. Heroes was also quite good (as was Chuck) and their performances are equally as disappointing. Boston Legal, as always, is a wonderful hour of television, no matter what anyone says. I cannot see either Prison Break or Terminator: TSCC coming back next season but I hope they manage to wrap up before FOX cans them. Is it too much to ask that the 1.5 million viewers who tuned into a repeat of Privileged on The CW are NEW viewers who will watch the new episode tonight?
Also, Friday Night Lights was seen by 400,000 last Wednesday (October 1st):
http://www.mediapost.com/publications/?fa=Articles.showArticleHomePage&art_aid=92120
And last week’s Raising the Bar (Monday, September 29th) was seen by 2.17 million viewers:
http://pifeedback.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/47810812/m/14810947?r=610102561#610102561
Heroes is 25,000,000 times better than lost will ever dream of being. I’m really sad it’s demos are declining. Curse you neilsan families!
“FrankJ, When the aggregate demo 18-34 numbers jump at 9pm it means that more in that age group are watching *broadcast* TV at that time, yes.”
^And that’s why Terminator should be moved to 9 pm like it was at last season. I don’t know what Fox is trying to pull by having it at 8… unless they feel that it has a good enough draw so they put it up against some of the other top shows because they know it will at least get a fair amount of viewers. What I mean is, maybe they don’t care about it reaching its full potential, but instead would rather use it to really go head to head against the other programming so Fox doesn’t totally lose in that hour? Well, as long as they realize why the ratings are what they are and don’t cancel it…
chill out there johnthemon… i think there’s room for both lost and heroes to be good at the same time.
I would much rather watch DWTS than 2.5 men!!! Come on……who really wants to watch that show….. please tell me…. WHO? I love CODY!!!
Chad: Who? 10 million plus people.
How ANYBODY can watch things like DWTS is beyond me. The whole point of watching television is to escape reality…how can you escape reality by watching it?
You might as well film paint drying.
Is this list the most up to date one?
This has different numbers…
http://pifeedback.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/63310451/m/434105561/p/12
Joseph, The numbers posted here are the overnights that come out in the morning. What Travis posts in the evening (the numbers on that page) are the finals, and are more accurate.
Holly
Excellent. Thanks!
I hope Heroes doesn’t get canceled. I work on it.!! But I don’t think it will.. it’s slated to do 23 episodes this season and we are already working on 10 and 11 so we are half way there. Some interesting stuff coming up.!!
Wow Vic you work on it?
Is it true Kring has 5 seasons worth of story?
I agree with the above posts .. Terminator : Sarah Connor Chronicles last night was amazing. I hope it doesn’t get cancelled!!!
I really don’t know why FOX is still giving life support to Prison Break. This season and the plotline is beyond ridiculous. This show has become like a painful tick let it RIP,FOX lol.
T:SCC had a great episode last night it was smart and thought provoking also the numbers have been very consistant even with the competition thats taking it’s toll on alot of shows for that hour and with dvr numbers raising and keeping steady shows that it has a huge fanbase the only problem i see are the casual viewers wich are being jerked from channel to channel i think the remedy for this is to simply change to timeslot there is alot less competition on wed night 9pm wich can raise the ratings substantially.
I dont understand how people like 2.5 men, its not even funny.
Ha, HIMYM got more viewers than Heroes, funny …but sad…but funny.
Here in Australia, channel 9 plays two and a half men TEN, that’s right, 10 times per week. Monday 7pm-8pm, Tuesday 7pm, 8.30pm-9.30pm, Wednesday 7pm-8.30pm, Thursday 7pm, Friday 7pm. It was also their highest rating show last week for the Wednesday 8pm episode. Ridiculous. Occasionally, there are new episodes, but not this week, with all of them repeats. Why people, why! But the fad should die down, like it did with Ramsay.
I think its bad for Heroes
Its their lowest viewers in 3 seasons!
These numbers for Chuck are very depressing. I’m surprised to find myself enjoying Chuck more than anything else currently on the air. It’s funny, charming, and clever. But with numbers like these, I wonder if NBC will rescind its full season order. The only positive spin I can put on these ratings is that it still beat T:SCC (barely) in the very lucrative demo of adults 18-34, and that its A18-34 rating beat’s DwTS’s *Tuesday* score in that same demo (though obviously not Monday’s) and is about the same as NCIS.
Ironically, lots of fans of T:SCC and Chuck are clamoring for them to be moved to Wednesdays at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). But if Fox and NBC were to act at the same time and move them both into that same slot, still pitting them against each other, the results would obviously not be good. They target a similar audience.
Besides the Fox and NBC Monday lineups, I wonder if other young-male-skewing programs are suffering this much compared to last season. What else does well with Men 18-34? This audience seems disproportionately likely to watch these shows on Hulu and/or iTunes and/or wait for DVDs. I hate to say it, but maybe Hulu needs to carry more advertising, thus reaping more profits to keep these shows in business. Just one commercial per break on Hulu probably isn’t helping much, money-wise (although it is delightful for viewers in the short run).
Like Ike, I also enjoy Chuck and am sorry about its numbers.
However, it is coming up against Dancing With the Stars. I am a fan of both, and while Chuck is on, I watch that, and turn to ABC during the commercial break. When Chuck is over, I switch to DWTS for the rest of the evening.
I am really grateful that NBC is giving Chuck a second chance, and wish that they would try it at a different hour.
Here’s a thought! How about putting on Chuck after Crusoe on Friday nights?
Heroes is declining but it’s not going to be canceled. I mean just look at other shows from NBC. Besides football, there really isn’t a better performer.
