Early Ratings, CSI & Grey’s Anatomy Lead Night, SNL Weekend Update Strong

Posted on 17 October 2008 by Robert Seidman

I have several thoughts based on these preliminary metered market ratings, but I’m going to hold off on thinking them until we have seen the fast affiliate numbers with viewer totals and demo ratings…

Time Net Show Prelim Metered Marke HH Rating/Share
8:00 CBS Survivor: Gabon 7.0/11
  ABC Ugly Betty 6.2/10
NBC My Name is Earl 4.3/7
  CW Smallville 2.8/5
FOX Hole in the Wall 2.2/3

8:30 NBC Kath & Kim 4.1/6

9:00 CBS CSI 11.2/17
  ABC Grey’s Anatomy 9.6/15
  NBC The Office 5.0/8
  FOX Kitchen Nightmares 2.5/4
  CW Supernatural 2.0/3

9:30 NBC SNL: Weekend Update 6.2/9

10:00 CBS Eleventh Hour 7.8/12
  NBC ER 6.7/11
  ABC Life on Mars 6.1/10

Metered Market Overnight Ratings: This is normally the first available ratings information, and is based on the electronic measurement service that Nielsen provides in 56 of the nation’s largest markets. In each market a sample of homes is selected to represent that individual market. Often, networks or syndicators provide metered market information as an early indicator of a program’s performance. In aggregate, the 56 metered markets represent 79,890,610 homes, or 70% of all U.S. TV households. Preliminary metered market data are available as early as 8:00AM (ET). Final metered market information, reflecting line-up changes, pre-emptions and runovers, are normally available by 3:30PM (ET).

    Aww, come on, share!

  2. Julia26 says:

From another Julia- I would like you to share too Rob! Was viewership down across the bored this week? Looks that way… Poor Life on Mars!

  3. Andrea says:

I watch 11th Hour because I love Rufus. He’s got the most gorgeous eyes!

I don’t hate on Life On Mars. Too bad these two shows compete head on. I might have to watch LOM live instead of 11th Hour however. ABC.com’s viewer is the crappiest.

  4. Julia says:

    ABC.com’s viewer is the crappiest.

Yep. I can never get anything to work. I always get errors. ABC really needs to get on Hulu.

  5. I will share when I have seen the fast affiliate data. I want to see the viewer numbers before freaking out. But yeah it looks like just about everything was down based on comparing the early metered market for last night to the early metered market numbers for last Thursday night. From CSI (down 20%) to Supernatual (down 10%) to most everything in between. I can’t put all of that on people flipping over to watch the Red Sox go down (I’m looking at you, Bill Gorman) only to see them rise up like the Phoenix from the ashes…

Why is the picture with this article from CSI: NY?

  7. They all bleed together for me ;) . Fixed

  8. ABCStartHere says:

Nice rating for Ugly Betty I think its safe for another season and not bad for Grey’s.

Too bad for Life on Mars from 1st last week to 3rd this week.

ER is getting ratings again – shocking!

  9. Julia says:

I still can’t believe SNL on Thursdays is doing so much better than The Office. Stupid Palin revitalizing SNL. :(

  10. Cameron says:

I wonder if ER will still get ratings when it doesn’t have SNL as a lead in? I doubt it.

  11. angelscrest says:

I was really hoping that 11th Hour would be a better show, because I like Rufus Sewell, but I have seen 1 1/2 episodes, and so far am not impressed. I am not sure what I don’t like about it, but I think I was expecting more… presence, I suppose, more oomph… from Rufus.

  12. Andrea says:

    Robert,

I understand that 11th Hour bucked the trend and was up. I also expected CSI to have that 20% drop due to former viewers tuning in to see Warrick die. I expect another increase after Grissom leaves.

Angelcrest, I understand that the first four eps of 11th hr are scene by scene remakes of the original UK series. That could account for the flatness. I expect the series to expand itself afterwards.

  13. Maura Tierney’s last episode on ER last night was a terrific piece of television! ABC should cut a deal and take ER from NBC,and put it in the same time with Grey’s Anatomy as its lead in. It will be a big hit onece again. That show is still good enough to stay on the air and 10 mil viewers is still solid.

  14. tim says:

wheres the full ratings!!!!! its 1:30!!!!

  15. lynne says:

I love Supernatural. I wish it was on a different night though. I watch Supernatural in real-time and watch Grey’s and Burn Notice online.
