It was another Monday night of mixed leadership, with ABC taking the total viewers crown, CBS taking the 18-49 year old demographic and NBC winning the most 18-34 year olds.
I’ll leave the commenters to opine on the ratings for Chuck and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, as they have both been picked up for the full year I’m not going to worry about two of my favorite shows (and sorry Summer and Lena, but I probably dig Chuck even a little bit more than TSCC) fates until the spring. Edit, while the ratings are languishing I do not believe the quality of the shows is, and I’m very happy about the ability to DVR more than one show at 8pm!
And note the comment from “Paul”, he’s absolutely right across the board, from NBC’s perspective Chuck is probably at least close to being near where they thought it would be. My Own Worst Enemy must be the much bigger disappointment for NBC.
As is typical ABC led total viewers for the night with Dancing with the Stars while CBS took the most 18-49 year olds with its two hour comedy block and CSI: Miami. How I Met Your Mother had especially impressive performance, and bested Two and a Half Men among 18-34 year olds even though it had more than five million fewer viewers. Worst Week remains CBS weakest Monday night link. It had the worst performance of any CBS show in the demos, though it beat Samantha Who? among 18-49 year olds (and Samantha likely had a minute or two of Dancing With the Stars included in the results that will get stripped out in the final numbers.
Heroes is way off its former ratings glory, but still had the most 18-34 year olds, and by a wide margin, of any show on the broadcast networks last night, leading NBC to a win among 18-34 year olds for the night.
The CW’s Monday lineup was fairly consistent with past efforts, and the devil is in the 18-34 year old female details, which we won’t see until later. But at 9pm, One Tree Hill was second only to Heroes among 18-34 year olds.
Update: Our friend James Hibberd reports that CW was protesting the numbers for Gossip Girl, so we contacted the CW to see what was up. Here’s what our contact said:
…protest is kind of a strong word…sounds like we’re out picketing in front of the Nielsen office. It’s more that we’re just seeing some discrepancies in the Gossip Girl ratings from last night (especially in the meter market to fast affiliate translation) and we’re asking Nielsen to check into their veracity. Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill have been running neck-and-neck with each other, and with the disparity between the two last night, we want Nielsen to investigate it…

Definitions:
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings, including demographics, are available at approximately 11 AM (ET) the day after telecast, and are released to subscribing customers daily. These data, from the National People Meter sample, are strictly time-period information, based on the normal broadcast network feed, and include all programming on the affiliated stations, sometimes including network programming, sometimes not. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns. For example, with a World Series game, Fast Affiliate Ratings would include whatever aired from 8-11PM on affiliates in the Pacific Time Zone, following the live football game, but not game coverage that begins at 5PM PT. The same would be true of Presidential debates as well as live award shows and breaking news reports.
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time. (See also, Rating, which represents tuning or viewing as a percent of the entire population being measured.)
Time Shifted Viewing – Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live+Same Day (Live+SD) and Live+7 Day. Time shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs which are currently in approximately 24.4% of all U.S. TV households. Live+Same Day (Live+SD) include viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3:00AM local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live+7 Day ratings include incremental viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

Chuck languished?
Shouldn’t it be my own worst enemy?
Chuck posted it’s best numbers this season.
Paul, you’re absolutely right. My Own Worst Enemy *is* languishing. I suspect my bias is shining through in the prose. I love Chuck and TSCC and have never watched an episode of Own Worst…
Sometimes I too am my own worst enemy, but you bring up a fair point.
Is Chuck up from last week?
I have no idea why Fox is giving terminator a full season. I like the show, but the numbers are terrible. Heroes had a really good episode last night, hopefully the viewership will turn around…even the demos are feeling the burn.
Dancing with the Stars ends about mid-season right?
Is anyone else getting sick of CBS’ dominance on almost every night? Monday is an exception, with it taking a close second, but still.
Oh and My Own Worst Enemy is apparently a terrible lead-out from Heroes. I can’t see it lasting for more than 13 episodes.
Is this the first time Heroes has dipped below 4.0 in the demo?
Chuck was up ~10% vs. last week in total viewers..
http://tvbythenumbers.com/2008/10/14/monday-night-ratings-dancing-with-the-stars-two-and-half-men-lead-night/6155
Worst Week had higher numbers in viewers than both BBT and HIMYM. It just needs to get it’s younger demo up a bit.
Two and a Half Men has run its course. Not funny anymore.
Wow at OTH. Great numbers.
SCC stinks just as its ratings. Kudos to PB for builiding from the lead-i against much tougher competition
Julia, I dream of a completely database-driven environment where it’s *very easy* to find out exactly those types of questions. for now, it’s just a dream…
TSCC is a GREAT show and I’m glad it got a full season pickup.
From what I’ve heard advertisers like TSSC so Fox is happy about that and viewership will probably pick up once American Idol is on.
Also, not sure if I’m right or not but season 1 of TSCC aired mid-season during the WGA strike and didn’t have much competition against it so that’s probably why season 1 did so well compared to now.
The writers strike did not help FOX’s Monday night shows at all. Still the ratings are modest, and that is good enough for a full season pickup.
last nights terminator ep was awful. dont get me wrong i love the show but it stunk last night. the main reason i watch the show is cause of summer glau and they are not writing much for her. she is the star of the show. well her and lena. but thomas dekker is a boring actor. he is so unlikeable.
so is terminator on next week?
Chuck didn’t languish! In fact the numbers (that don’t show the quality of the show) are getting better every week. You should be more careful.Chuck is a great show and will be better in the future (despite the fact that in our days with the dvr and the internet Nielsen Ratings don’t tell the truth about the attractiveness of a show)
Was Terminator picked up for a full season? So how many episodes do we have left and is it going to get cancelled after this season with these numbers? thnx
Why are people even still watching Prison Break is filled with dumbness jeeze and it’s not even good anymore.Even the producers from that show have said in past interviews that right now they don’t care about the viewers or ratings only to get picked up again. What a total disrespect so why even give those bozos from P.B any audiences at all!I guess some are watching out loyalty other than that this season is not even good or entertaining.
i dont know what to say to FOX. I dont understand this terminator move at all. FOX obviously doesnt care about fall at all. So i guess thats why terminator is staying. Tuesdays is the only night where FOX is somewhat competitive.
John A: No, Terminator is not on next week, at least not a new episode. It’s either baseball or a repeat of episode 3.
Oh, and not liking an episode just because Cameron is not the center of it, is a very poor reason. The show has much more to offer than Summer Glau. Thomas Dekker’s performance was brilliant last night. Still, you had the pretzel fight and Cameron’s worrying about John’s well-being. Oh, and she has Asperger’s. LOL to that.
In the end, I just thank $deity for Dodge, they’re I assume one of the main reasons for the full season pick up.
Julia, Yes, this is the first time Heroes has dropped below a 4.0, which it hit for the first time on 10/6.
@wed
PB is great this season, that’s why i’m watching it
TSCC is a great show. I think that after T4 comes out there will be renewed interest in the show which should help boost the numbers.
Thanks for putting me in the post:))
Taking aside any questions of show quality from Fans/Haters, is Chuck on the start of an upswing or it is just a bounce around at the numbers the show will average for the season?
Thanks, Holly. I found the numbers and looking at them, Heroes has fallen hard and fast. Before season 3, it was only under 5.0 three times.
General question: the numbers for UNI are interesting but why is a Spanish-language network being reported along with English networks?
TSCC is a total disaster, no matter what spin FOX puts on it. (And I’m surprised by Robert’s “chucked” Summer for Yvonne
) I’m waiting for the moment TSCC goes 4.99/1.9 demo which could be next week.
I can see FOX putting the back-half as burn-off on Fridays mid season.
I, myself, will wait for the DVD now that I know it’s been picked-up. I think I’d rather watch it in a series than as weekly episodes.
Robert, you’re not missing anything in MOWE, btw.
Robert is it my biasism shining through or is PB getting really good demo numbers?
Glad Heroes and Chuck are doing better
@Anthony
2.4 isn’t all that good, nut it’s better than last weeks
@Andrea
So what if it’s a spanish-language, it’s still an american network
WOW, yes Worst Enemy is in serious trouble and with heroes down and chuck up from last week, Chuck looks a lot better than it did it’s first three weeks. It also does better numbers in 18-34 than Enemy.
But let’s please not overlook the other show that’s fallen a LOT from past years (other than Heroes)… can i get a shout-out for CSI:Miami? That show has fallen dramatically since it’s season premiere in the 18-49 demo (5.1 to 3.8). That’s 25% since the start of the season. As lame as it is, I wonder if Enemy is at least taking *some* viewers from Miami. They seem to go for the same audience.
Just an interesting note: CSI:NY is now stronger than CSI:Miami in all three categories, viewers, 18-49, and 18-34.
Andrea, Univision regularly beats out at least one network that is considered a “major” network, and usually beats out more than that in the demos. Why wouldn’t it be reported?
Bob, that it’s a SPANISH LANGUAGE network means a lot, as it brings in a totally different demo.
Jackson: FOX said last spring when TSCC was in the 10 million viewer range that people watched it because it was good not because of a lack of competition.
Either:
1) FOX was full of bs and competition did matter, or
2) The target audience lost its interest for one reason or another.
@andrea
As far as i know being a 20 years old spanish speaker means the same thing as being a 20 years old english speaker.
Andrea, you seem to have the same feeling that most of the media does, since none of the nets and almost no other outlet ever mentions Univsion. But the fact is that it’s a major player in broadcast television in America.
PB gained around 400k from last week right? Well other week i mean
Re: Univision. It is generally overlooked by the English language media. I ascribe that to a few possibilities. (1) Their rise has been quite swift. 5 years ago their audience was much smaller. Inertia is a very strong force, and attitudes about them will change more slowly than their audience has. (2) They aren’t direct competitors for most advertising dollars. I have been told that the advertising budgets of major marketers are somewhat segregated in that the “Hispanic” marketing budget is separate from the “Regular” marketing budget. To the extent that is true, Univision really isn’t competing for ad $ with the English networks. Of course, I’d expect that to change over time, but inertia is strong.
Andrea, I agree that Univision being Spanish language definitely means it is not competing for the same advertising dollars. We include it here for a variety of reasons, but primarily becaise there are a boatload of sites with ratings data now, there are a lot more sites writing about it than even when we started a little over a year ago, and by publishing the Univision data, like the 18-34 data, we’re offering something unique that isn’t widely available on the Internet
I also like typing Fuego en la Sangre…
I’m relieved to see Chuck’s numbers perking back up. And for those following the show, if you know who the next big guest star is and the part she’s going to play, should make for some really interesting sweeps episodes!
As for Terminator…ack. I haven’t had a chance to watch last night’s yet, but so far, aside from the Cameron episode, I think FOX’s meddling in the plot for this season has not been good. They pushed the writers for the self-contained episodes, and had them add Riley into the mix. It got away from the long continuing story that made season one kind of like a long movie. Hopefully they’ll get back to that. But then again, the creative changes FOX wanted are probably what contributed to the full season pick-up.
Julia,
I would like to see a report on this. To me it’s very interesting. Bob seems to think I’m saying something negative, which is not my intent. Hispanics make the biggest minority in the US and in less than 50 years “minorities” will be in the majority. This demo has not been looked at comprehensively, to my knowledge.
Bob, to your point, what makes a 20 year-old decide to watch Fuego instead of Heroes? Is tv viewing done as a family? Is he watching the telenovela with his family? Or if he’s at college, does he watch Heroes instead? This is what I want to know–how are the viewing habits different?
Also, as an aside, why is MYNet considered a network? Why don’t we see its numbers?
Finally, the net burps on this website continue to annoy. I have to constantly have my messages on “paste”.
With all the quality competiton from HBO, Showtime, FX, TNT,A&E and Lifetime the major networks will NEVER be what they once were in terms of drawing power. They are going to have to accept programs that get 6 million viewers a week. The over all market is JUST that saturated! That’s a fact!
To each it’s own Bob I guess.Almost all the people I know that loved PB in the past have tunned out this eason because of the ridiculous fest and have said it’s unwatchable.
TSCC seems to be locked into fairly consistent numbers week after week. Given the competition on Mondays, that consistency seems to be major positive for TSCC.
If the show was spiking and plummeting with erratic numbers, that would be a concern for the show in this time slot.
Entertainment I agree but also if you check out the drama shows or “adventure” shows on some of these big networks like fox they are horrible. From the acting to the plotline they are very weak and just plain boring to watch no wonder people are not watching those shows.Well at least the comedy shows are doing pretty well even though some are not that good still comedy is comedy.
What do you need to see a report on? Just look at the top. Univision came in 4th in viewers, and tied for fifth in both of the demos. They are obviously on par with the rest of the nets.
Julia,
and that’s why I would like to see an in-depth report
Come on people! Am I the only one who’s going to mention TSCC didn’t air at all last week? What did you expect it to shoot up a million viewers? Let’s get realistic… Last night’s episode was great, but when it takes a week off for MLB like it did last week and takes another week off for MLB next week, you’re not going to gain or maintain viewers. I don’t think FOX will be shocked and saying “oh why did we give it a full season?!?” looking at those numbers.
As for Heroes, I have not seen yesterday’s episode, but after Hiro stabbed Ando for no apparent reason last week in the course of five seconds, I’m about to bail along with everyone else.
Vader, he stabbed him to sacrifice himself for the good of the world
Besides i doubt he is really dead
Andrea (and everyone else). sorry for your troubles. Ironically, it is the commenting that taxes our server the most. Ironic because the reason I switched off Disqus for commenting (which didn’t tax our servers at all) is because the page load times with Disqus were much slower. the site has doubled its traffic since then though. We’re in the midst of upgrading to a dedicated server. we were trying to stave it off until the weekend to minimize impact
Prison- Broke does stink the show DOESN’T work if there’s no prison.
All you get then is a bunch of super dull people running around and it just draaagsss.
WoW…Sarah…wait is Sarah UP from last week in 18-49 demo?
They need to move her to Wed’s…Monday Nite Football goes into January…people will be a little lost of what’s going on with “Sarah” by then.
FOX – Thank you for picking up full season of Sarah – but move her to Wed’s pleeeeeaaassseee!
If Sarah remains on Mon’s – American Idol won’t matter to that night because American Idol is on Tues, Wed & sometimes Thurs—and with Dollhouse & 24 (finally) coming this January -I don’t know where the back 9 of SARAH will land….and then there’s still the “LOWER VIEWERSHIP SEASON STILL TO COME” – THE HOLIDAYS!!
There is more drama with SARAH in real life than there is IN the show!
and AAAAAARRRRGHHHHHHH – why are more of you watching
“CIRCUS WITH THE (PRETEND) STARS”??????
Vader, PB was also on hiatus for one week, but has gained viewers unlike TSCC.
Oh, say it ain’t so on TSCC…. I agree with previous commenters that the Fox suits have negatively impacted the show. Way too many characters, way too goofy of plotlines, way too many Terminators. It’s a good thing I’m a Summer Glau fan or I would have tuned the show out a while ago. I still believe that the Monday 8:00pm time slot is absolutely slaughtering both TSCC and Chuck, and I think Fox’s decision to pick up the back nine reflects that Fox must believe the time slot for TSCC is bad, too. I just hope that it’s able to pick up more viewers come January or March or whenever they air the back nine!
On a completely unrelated subject, since this is an election cycle, I thought I’d point you guys to a new survey by Neilsen that looks at the favorite basic cable shows among Republicans and Democrats. Republicans really liked South Park and Democrats really liked The Colbert Report. However, making both the GOP and the Democrats’ top seven list were “Love” programs on VH1; Rock of Love for Republicans and I Love New York for Democrats. Thus proving that there is a place for trashy reality TV in everyone’s household regardless of politics.
http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/media_entertainment/do-dems-and-gopers-respond-to-tv-shows-differently/
According to TheHollywoodReporter:
The CW is protesting the “Gossip” overnight rating to Nielsen, saying the metered markets indicate the show’s ratings should be higher. Though the adults 18-49 rating has softened somewhat since its first couple weeks, the “Gossip” W18-34 target has been on a general upward trend…
PB was horrible last season i agrree, but the last 3-4 episodes were definetely the best since season 1
Okay – PB is getting better ratings simply because it’s on a little later – —
here in CENTRAL TIME world – SARAH is on at 7PM—YES 7PM!!!! and PB is on at 8pm –
Action shows fare better later in the evening…
….but I just realized with AI coming back in JAN. and the first few weeks is normally 2 hours EVENTS on Wed’s – I guess there may not be room for SARAH on Wed’s…soooo —- How’s Sunday looking? – which when the first episodes were going to air FOX announced an old X-Files time slot for SARAH.
AND FOR THE RECORD SARAH SEASON 2 SHOULD BE CALLED SARAH CONNOR SEASON 1.5
(9 EPISODES don’t make a first season).
I added this to the post, but here’s what our contact at CW had to say about last night’s ratings:
…protest is kind of a strong word…sounds like we’re out picketing in front of the Nielsen office. It’s more that we’re just seeing some discrepancies in the Gossip Girl ratings from last night (especially in the meter market to fast affiliate translation) and we’re asking Nielsen to check into their veracity. Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill have been running neck-and-neck with each other, and with the disparity between the two last night, we want Nielsen to investigate it…
Gotta say…I find it really annoying that 3.03 viewers for Gossip Girl and the CW is up in arms figuring out why the hell people aren’t watching. (Not considering of course that the show is all shades of suck.) But why aren’t such concerns brought up when Supernatural gets 3.04 like last week? Maybe I’m overreacting as a SPN fan, but this seems like just ANOTHER example of how the CW doesn’t give a flying crap about SPN and favors the Teen Trite Line-up.
@steve
the CW favors gossip girl and one tree hill because the network has said they are concentrating on young women. im sure GG and OTH hit that target better then SPN or Smallville.
Robert you dont know by any chance when Reaper is back do you?
“Gossip Girl and One Tree Hill have been running neck-and-neck with each other, and with the disparity between the two last night, we want Nielsen to investigate it.”
Wouldn’t it be funny if Nielsen comes back and says, “Hey! You were right. One Tree Hill’s ratings weren’t anywhere near that high. We’ll fix it.”
Anthony,
My point is that Hiro never even tried to get around killing Ando, he just did it. They did wrap that part up nicely in this episode (even though Hiro broke his “vow” an additional two times), but this show will forever be a shell of what it once was. What is the point of bringing Adam back (one of my favorite characters) to kill him off in three episodes in a rather lame moment? It would’ve been more satisfying to leave him in the ground the rest of the series. Tim Kring has run this show right into the ground and should pass it off to Jeph Loeb, but we all know that will never happen.
Anthony, I know it’s slated for “Mid season” which generally means late January. I’ll see if I can find out anything.
Worst Week viewers went up again. Almost at 10 Million. Prison Brak stayed the same tough. But at least Prison Break is beating Terminator.
I almost left Heroes after the Ando incident, but I came back to give it one more chance. Of course Ando is not dead! Keep watching the show! It’s really starting to go somewhere. Although I have to wonder why they brought back Adam, just to kill him off after he’s been in maybe 10 minutes of the show. I thought bringing him back was lame anyway…and if anyone gets mad at me for spoilers, I must point out that I didn’t give anything away that Vader didn’t.
Soy una persona de patrimonia noruega, sin embargo, amo la lengua española y la cultura. y por eso Viva Univision, Viva la Reconquista!
I believe within 10-15 years the U.S. will be officially bilingual
a la Canada.
Why no raising the bar numbers???
David– That’s the first thing I thought of — that OTH’s # were wrong! LOL!!
I am really enjoying Chuck. I liked it last season and its even better this season. They have tuned up the sideline action so that its really quite amusing. I hope this is a rating trend upwards and not an anomaly. Kind of ironic that Josh Schwartz’(sp?) shows are in direct competition.
Is it just me, or were there more commercials than show during Heroes last night? Honestly, the continuity is screwy enough as it is — interrupting it every 5 minutes makes it pretty close to unwatchable.
I like My Own Worst Enemy . . . . .
Filip, if you know of a site that regularly pulishes OVERNIGHT numbers for cable channels, please let us know. Since there is no source for overnight cable data we don’t publish it.
We do see weekly cable data and publish it and if one of the networks publishes a press release about a show sometimes we’ll see it sooner (no WAY is that happening with RTB though).
Glad to see that Prison Break’s numbers are still hovering just below 6 million…I wonder if Fox would consider another season if they gained another million viewers by the season (series?) finale.
Fox’s Prison Break and NBC’s My Own Worst Enemy had the same numbers, will they both stay the season? I watch Prison Break and have enjoyed it this year, but Enemy…couldn’t get through it, the first ep at least. Also, Stephen King via EW, summed up Prison Break in a great way…fans HAVE to check it out.
I agree, loving prison break this season, disappointed about their numbers as well as the numbers for TSCC. Both great shows. I’m particularly happy for prison break to finish this year with a proper ending, will it go 22 episodes? i noticed TSCC got given a full season so i assume prison break will too?
What many of you fail to realize is that ‘Dancing With The Stars,’ and “Monday Night Football,’ kind of screw with the numbers. Chuck, Sarah, etc. will receive a boost after DWTS ends and when MNF ends.
The real question seems to be where will Sarah and Dollhouse be put in the Spring FOX lineup? Idol really screws with FOX’s lineups.
Of course Worst Week had better numbers than the 8PM sitcoms. If it didn’t, it would be axed immediately.
And why don’t you guys ever mention BBT in your ratings recaps?
What’s so wrong with OTH’s ratings? If GG was the show that hit 3.65, the CW would’ve already released a press released stating it was the best show ever. They can’t really stand the fact that GG got beat by a show with lesser promotion.
Tommy, I can’t speak for Bill, but there may be a court order keeping me from obsessing over Kaley Cuoco which prevents me from watching the show (or admitting to it). I did give BBT some props here earlier today for last week’s 18-49 performance. Kidding aside, I have watched the show before and enjoy it and think it’s cute, but there’s only so much television I can watch and between all the cable shows I watch (Mad Men, Entourage, Californication, etc) and the massive amount of sports programming — there’s just not enough time. Perhaps someday when there is, I will binge on BBT…
Maybe they should try moving “Enemy” around and give it a better shot. I think it could make it if people just check it out. It can’t suck if you didn’t see it!!!
And THE CW ends up looking pathetic as the Gossip Girl numbers stand after Nielsen’s investigation. The CW should be congratulating OTH on having such great numbers in its 6th season, and instead it’s whining over a show that no one cares about.
Julie, while I won’t comment on how much anyone cares about any CW shows, CW does look like a bunch of sore losers. Between this and the statements Ostroff made (I think it was in September?) about how Nielsen doesn’t count everyone, CW sounds like the fans that complain about how Nielsen numbers are wrong. You’d think a network that definitely knows more about the numbers than random fans would be above that.
yea cw is whining way too much. they seem to be doing slightly better this season than last (ie shows above 2-2.5 million) and they should be happy about it. if i were them I would be congratulation OTH and figuring out how to boost their other ratings accordingly.
hats off to how i met your mother!
Turns out the CW ratings were correct? Good for OTH then. I remember those comments Ostroff made — something about because there was so much ‘buzz’ for GG that the ratings numbers must not be capturing the true audience. That GG’s audience gets their entertainment in non-tradtional media or some such.
Or not.
Maybe her job is contingent on GG’s performance in the women demo? She sure acts like its personal somehow.
Last night was the first episode of the season for Heroes that I thought was really good! Finally starting to do something about the problems the show has had since the beginning (a character who can time travel and a character who can mimic any other person’s powers). Should be interesting to see how they work this out.
Karen, I agree about my own worst enemy, this is a show you have to watch and think about, not just stare into the tv set.I really like this show.
I sure hope it at least gets a fair shake. It could be one of the best shows out this year if people would just stop to watch and give it a chance.
HEROES IS A LAME SHOW AND A WASTE OF MONEY.
I just want to say that I loveeeee one tree hill no matter how many ratings they have or don’t have. It’s a awesome show
And its wayyyy better than gossip girl and 90210.
BUT… That’s just my opinion.
“And why don’t you guys ever mention BBT in your ratings recaps?”
Cause they love HIMYM and the Womanizer (Two and Half Men) more so.
I am with you on BBT, and I wish Men ran its course, but its still popular.
“HEROES IS A LAME SHOW AND A WASTE OF MONEY.”
I still like the show…I think certain people expected something else from the show and it didn’t deliver for them.
If you expecting something like X-Men or Mutant X (remember that show kids?), you should be disapointed.
I thought last night’s TSCC was one of the season’s better episodes. I don’t get what people mean by silly plotlines. The biggest issue I’ve had was with the episodic structure, but these last two episodes, continuing the power plant story and the writing on the wall, have pushed the season somewhat closer to the serialized format of the first season.
I hope the ratings get better though.
Cant you people just stop ripping into Prison Break. Its my fav show and many others. And got many loyal fans so stop criticising it.
the prison break hate this year is a bit unfounded. I try not to watch the newer episodes because i hate week to week gaps so i prefer just buying on dvd but season 2 was by the far the weakest season. Season 3 was pretty good and i wonder how differently it would of gone without the strike but season 4 from what i have seen has been pretty solid.
Good news for Chuck fans, it went up 170,000 and 0.1 in the demo in the finals. That makes the 3rd week in a row with an increase in viewers and the demo.
Also, WOW, I never realized how low TSCC’s 18-34 rating was, especially for a show targeting young men!
I think that if the numbers keep declining for the networks, this NETWOR-AFFILIATTE system is going to end. I think the networks should become 24/7 channels , only having local airtime for the local news. I think that all the first run syndicated shows need to “Join” a network.
That’s why cable is so successful right now, because they promote their shows all day, every day. Plus, some local affiliates even have different logos and don’t even mention the network. I think it’s kind of confusing. For example, in Orlando, FLORIDA there’s a channel LOCAL 6 (wich is an affiliate of CBS) , but during the syndicated , or local shows, they never mention CBS, they use the logo and name “LOCAL 6″.
Does what I’m suggesting make any sense???? or the syndicated shows are gonna lose so much money if they join a network?
I think it’ll be better if all shows air at the same time in every part of the US (for example ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT 7:30PM on CBS, eastern and pacific/6:30PM central. instead of being syndicated and having different channels and airtimes)
JEERS to the CW for getting rid of SMACKDOWN!, and not showing love to the shows that don’t appeal to young females (smallville, supernatural, chris…)They should promote all their shows equally. I really liked those promos where they put the actors from all their shows together.
other than that, I think the CW is doing GREAT!!!!! they have a lot of shows that get over 3 million viewers, and nowadays that’s a lot.
Sorry, but I think that the Nielsens are not the best at reporting. Everyone I know HATES Worst Week yet it’s doing great. I don’t believe it. Strange that so many people have seen Worst Enemy yet the numbers don’t reflect it either, W/E.
Why aren’t my comments being published?
emmy lou, I’m not sure what happened to your comments, they weren’t in the spam filter.
Holly, all of T:SCC’s male fans are watching foothball instead. No one wants to DVR a live sporting event. Come ‘09 T:SCC will due much better in the male demos.
The only thing keep Terminator alive is its planned cross promotion with Terminator 4 due out in the Spring – back 9 episodes will end about the time it comes out. Terminator 4 Salvation is indeed TSCC’s salvation. Though theres little chance of a Season 3 unless ratings increase dramatically in the Spring. Many blame football. But when HEROES was at the top of its game, Monday Night Football didnt hurt it – both shows are after similar audiences. TSCC is getting annoying with people from the future showing up in every episode. When the original Terminator started it was somewhat plausible – a few Terminators (some good/some bad) and Kyle are sent back in time then the time machine is blown up. Now its like time machines are as common as phone booths in the 20th century – they appear to be everywhere. Want to go into the past? Just dial up the past and off you go! But this opens up the question as to why SkyNet didnt just send an army of Terminators back to 1980 or so and kill Sarah in highschool – then use the the most advanced T-1000 and TX terminators to build Skynet. I guess you just cant use logic with TSCC – little in it makes sense. It still a decent show just not well structured.
Worst Week which has one of the worst 19-49 demos on CBS actually tops most of the NBC shows that tend to do well in that demographic.
As far as Slater’s Worst Enemy, productions values are pretty high, but can they actually simplify it a little. Maybe give it more of a procedural feel.
Maybe NBC needs to inject some procedural dramas to its slate because all the fancy high energy dramas are hard to catch up with viewers.
“HEROES IS A LAME SHOW AND A WASTE OF MONEY.”
You’re a lame show and a waste of money.
But seriously, although Heroes is at an all-time low for ratings, it’s currently running its best storyline ever, and it seems to get more fascinating and entertaining each week.
My Own Worst Enemy, in my mind, is the show that Chuck and TSCC ought to be: an action-adventure with a smart plot that recalls classic Bond films and the cleverest TV devices from the 60s and 70s. TSCC lost me when they had an innocent high school student commit suicide on screen, and I gave up quickly on Chuck when they expected me to laugh at his bewildered look for the umpteenth time by the third episode (a shame, since the pilot episode was so strong).
Nevertheless, NBC continues to hold my attention with great shows of both comedy and drama, and gets my vote for having the best collection of shows on a major network.
“But this opens up the question as to why SkyNet didnt just send an army of Terminators back to 1980 or so and kill Sarah in highschool – then use the the most advanced T-1000 and TX terminators to build Skynet.” Foo Man Chu, you do realize your complaints are currenlty being addressed, or do you not watch the show? In T:SCC, a T-1000 is posing as Catherine Weaver, a corporte CEO of a hih-tech company, building Skynet in the present day. Also, you make it seem like their are dozens of terminators and people running around in every episode. There are two terminators, Cromatie and Catherine Weaver, in the present. And there are two resistence fightetrs, Derek and Jesse. Any other human or terminator sent back in time was for storyline purposes for a singualr episode.
Foo Man Chu…the other thing to keep in mind is that TSCC is a Sci Fi show, and because of the nature of the genre, there tend to be inconsistencies and exaggerations. How many inconsistencies are there across the “Star Trek” franchise? Fans of the genre deal with it and accept it.
I don’t think that the story lines are silly at all. I do, however, dislike the episodic nature of some episodes, but that is something that could help to pull more viewers in. You’re seeing character development now, which is something that you need if you are going to do a full season of episodes. Creatively, I think it is strong, and maybe Fox found that appealing…for once. I think if PB was drawing millions more viewers than TSCC, the show wouldn’t have gotten the back 9. The evening is not strong, but it is consistent.
On the other hand, Fox didn’t do either show a favor by taking it off for a week, putting it on for a week, and then taking it off for another week. It causes eyes to wander to other shows. My eyes wandered to BBT last week, which I enjoyed and would probably watch if TSCC isn’t on.
My Own Worst Enemy is probably going to end up like Journeyman…13 episodes only. And, there will be the usual round of complaints about the time slot to go along with the cancellation. I haven’t watched it because I already have that feeling about it. A lot of folks have said this in other postings in other discussions, but people don’t like to think late at night. They tend to prefer something that is transparent. It’s a shame because MOWE looks like it has a lot of potential.
How far does heroes have to drop to get dropped for good. I worry each week because its my favorite show and I want it to last as long as possible. Also, do the networks take into consideration online viewership? Heroes has an innsanely large online following.

I gotta strongly disagree, they are just rehashing a storyline and plotlines from the previous 2 seasons. The problem with Heroes is it just takes itself way too serious where it just becomes laughable without trying.

are we watching the same shows? lol. Again I strongly disagree with you. Chuck is miles above MOWE, in quality, diversity, it’s a fun show that does an excellent balancing act between drama and comedy. Theres not a show on the air like it. My own worst Enemy is just another rehash, ripoff of all action dramas that have proceeded it. Slater deserves better material.
Don, I thought that heroes was leading into that territory. It should be the story of the advent of the x-men, it would be totally lame if it weren’t. You know, when people started to discover that they had mutant powers.
@Johnny Shoe and Henry:
On another thread, Anthony posted that he had e-mailed askFox.com about whether or not “Prison Break” would be airing a full 22 episode season. He said that they responded that “Prison Break” would infact be going the full season. So for those of us here who are fans, I guess we can breath a little easier. I have been a faithful follower of the show since the begining, and I think it’s only right that the show should get the chance to finish the story properly.
Mike G.,
I think the arguement that people don’t like to think too hard about shows at the 10 PM timeslot may be true. However,
Stupid enter button!
(continued from above) However, I think LOST is an example that refutes that theory, racking up double digit viewers and high demos when it got moved from 9 to 10 last season. Also, if Heroes were putting up first or even second season numbers, MOWE would do considerable better. That being said, I really do enjoy the show.
I like TSCC, even if it does have flaws with the time travel stuff. The fact that people have DVRs makes all this tv ratings stuff meaningless.
