Waiting for Viewer Numbers…

Posted on 21 October 2008 by Robert Seidman

Those who just can’t wait can check out the early metered market numbers from Marc Berman.  But before weighing in on last night’s numbers, I want to see the *viewer* numbers.  Often jumping to conclusions about things from the early metered market numbers is completely without merit.  Plus we’re trying to keep our server up and running and would like to hold off on another planned upgrade until this weekend if we can, and a headline like “Terminator, Chuck…Suck” might crash our server.

BTW, I watched both shows last night and didn’t think either sucked.   For me, Chuck is just a remarkably consistently fun show.  Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles isn’t the same type of show as Chuck.  It’s more like Heroes and Battlestar Galactica.  Compared to those two shows, TSCC has handled the consistency issues very well. I enjoyed last night’s episode a lot.  But I also enjoyed (for the first time this year!) Heroes.

It is possible that a nasty head cold and the cold medicine impaired my judgment…

I’ll save the commentary on the ratings for when I have seen the viewer numbers and the demos, and besides Chuck and TSCC are going to air all season anyway.  I see little point in worrying about next year right now, we’ll have March, April and May to do that…

  2. Holly says:

    ^^Before the season started.

More people should watch Chuck, I hate it when my favorite show gets canceled it happens all the time. Maybe I like sucky shows or maybe everyone else is too busy watching famous people dance….what a blast.

  5. Johnthemon says:

Thanks holly for clarifying. I knew Heroes had a full season pick up before the season started, I didn’t know about Chuck.

Both Terminator and Chuck are not what people expect them to be. Seriously the previews NBC and FOX use to promote them do not do them justice. If you’re in any way inclined towards the geek set (Chuck) or love a thoughtful sci-fi plot (Terminator), give them a try.

Every single person I have loaned the DVD’s (of both shows) to has become hooked almost immediately. And the thing is, both of their first seasons were so short, you’ll burn through them and be caught up in days.

Gwaaa! Why can’t Terminator get good ratings? *coughtimeslotcough*
All I know is that one person at that forum who blamed Terminator for Prison Break’s low numbers… honestly, can that be any more stupid? If anything, TSCC gives PB viewers since it leads into it. I honestly don’t see how it could SUBTRACT viewers from the show.

Man, I really wish TSCC would have a good lead in. C’mon Fox, you picked up the full season which is excellent, now just move it to Wednesdays after Bones and I’ll dub you the best network ever. :D

By the way, when does Dancing With the Stars end?

  8. Outlander says:

    Why….WHY…

Though, I thought last night’s Terminator episode was pretty bad. There are so many characters and so many Terminators of the Week that I can’t keep all the characters straight (i.e. the scene at the end where John breaks the one dude’s neck — I didn’t know that was Sarkissian — I had to rely on a message board afterward to clue me in), I don’t really care about them, and now I am not even particularly afraid of Terminators because Cameron can apparently twist them into pretzels without breaking a proverbial sweat.

    Grumble grumble grumble.

  9. Andrea says:

TSCC should be competing at this timeslot–c’mon this is TERMINATOR. Look at Tuesdays: NCIS and House, Mentalist and Fringe, compete against each other and divide viewers nearly equally.

  10. Rachel P says:

Well Outlander, I think that Terminator in last night’s ep was an older model so that’s why Cameron was able to totally own her (which I didn’t mind seeing for a change, lol). Usually Cameron and the other Terminators are pretty evenly matched.

I do agree with you though… last night’s episode wasn’t as good as I would have hoped. And I also think that this season is a bit disjointed. The first season flowed together seamlessly. This season though, it seems people are just randomly popping up for certain episodes and then disappearing for the next couple (ie Cromartie). Probably due to the fact that they have to stretch the plot out to fill 23 episodes or whatever the number is, but hey, won’t complain about that! Definitely want as many episodes as possible. ;)

  11. Gusar says:

The stand-alone TSCC episodes were seem like an attempt to bring in new viewers even into the season, not just at the beginning. An attempt that obviously failed, because regular viewers rightfully started complaining about disjoint storylines. It’s been said though, that this was the last “Terminator of the week” episode. And in the big picture, things are not disjoint, so for regular viewers things will (and to an extent already have) fall into place to create an overall story.

  12. Corey says:

I don’t know how anyone can be confused about all the new terminators and characters if you watch the show every week. I really don’t see how it can be confusing if you have an average IQ. And, I completely disagree about this weeks show being not good. It had a lot of intersting character and plot development. It was a very good episode.

  13. Julia says:

Corey is it really necessary to insult someone’s intelligence simply because they didn’t like an episode of a show that they normally love? Is it?

  14. Kyle says:

I liked last night’s TSCC ep. Using the child psychologist to analyze Sky Net was brilliant. Also liked how Catherine Weaver & John crossed paths at the same psychologist’s office…finally linking the 2 story lines. Whether stand alone or heavily serialized, TSCC is producing some great stories.

  15. Emmy Lou says:

My Own Worst Enemy- Sorry to see it losing viewers. I REALLY like the show. The problem with the show is I think that many thought they’d see 2 definite characters and so far they really are showing the same character. It was advertised as Henry being the loving family man and Edward being the dangerous spy. I don’t think that they’ve defined each character. IT seems to be all spy but none of the Henry. This is great for those viewers that just want to see things get blown up but some of us want a story too. I hope it improves on this. I love Christian and I am rooting for NBC. BTW, I don’t think that all the showings on the net and other channels are helping it out with the numbers.

  16. JP says:

T:SCC is a great show. it is not at all confusing and it is possible the best show on TV {except for:Criminal Minds, House} dont bash mondays episode! i loved it and for the viewers that didnt watch it they missed a hell of an episode! the ending was great and cant wait for the nxt episode to come on!
