World Series Fueled Fox Wins Age Demos, CBS Takes Viewers In Week 5

Posted on 28 October 2008 by Bill Gorman

Fueled by the World Series, Fox swept the broadcast prime-time age demographic categories, but couldn’t top CBS for the average viewer title for the week of October 20-26, 2008, the fifth week of the 2008-9 broadcast season. Fox had the most adults 18-49, 18-34 and 25-54. CBS edged Fox for the most average viewers.

CBS’s average viewership of 11.35 million beat Fox with 10.87 million viewers and ABC with 9.96 million. NBC was well back with 6.10 million. For demo adults 25-54 it was Fox over CBS by 5.19 million to 4.91 million with ABC (4.52 million) just behind. For adults 18-49 it was Fox over ABC by 4.80 million to 3.98 million viewers, with CBS close behind in third (3.95 million) and NBC (2.95 million) fourth. In adults 18-34, Fox won with 2.10 million to ABC’s 1.62 million.

Univision was fifth across the board, and the CW was sixth across the board, typical of last season. While newcomer to our chart, MyNetworkTV, was seventh across the board it was closer to the CW in most demographic categories than the CW was to the rest of the English broadcast pack.

Is it just me, or does CBS have an all-or-nothing type thing going on with the younger demos? If it’s not first in 18-49, it’s third, and fourth in 18-34. I hardly seem to see CBS taking second place? Not saying that means anything. Just an observation.
